A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I agree politically homeless. Just want someone to balance the books. If you have private schooling, healthcare. Fine relieves the pressure on the state.

If someone has spent their adult life paying into a pension, leave them be. They won't need state care in a home if they have assets.

I just want them to think like the old fashioned family. Can I afford this? If not do without or save up.

They've followed all the rules. Been careful with money. Not burdened the state. What have they done to deserve such a kicking.

This is exactly how I feel.

This week's FON polling

Looks like Reform (+2) and Labour (+2) got an equal boost from the conference- seems to be at the expense of LibDems (-4).

35% exceeds Labour's vote share at the g.e.

In the aftermath of the slaughter of innocents today I wonder if KS is having second thoughts about his unconditional recognition of the state of Palestine. No? Thought not. He's a national disgrace.

The whole lot of 'em are rotton to the core corrupted from the inside like Medlars.
They all disgust me.

Yep. Just heard my local one is in lockdown. Life threatening and urgent patients only. I hope that doesn't mean that they're expecting further attacks.

Just wanted to comment on this, though you posted a while back. It’s now normal practice for hospitals to lockdown in the event of an incident like this. It’s known as “Operation Plato” and if the police declare it to be in action all the emergency services have a set of actions they must go through, one of which is shutting hospitals to all but the most urgent cases in case there are mass casualties.

It’s been designed to ensure a coherent approach to any “fast moving” incidents.

LieborCookin · 02/10/2025 16:41

It' was corbyn and momentums.attacks on Jewish people when he was nearly in power that brought this to my attention

Remember when rabbis were begging the population not to vote Corbyn in
Shocking.

Thanks for the info @CaveMum. I think it's been lifted now.

I just heard part of an interview on Times Radio with the UK Chief Exec of Palintir. (If you google, you will see that they have many contracts with the UK gov - MoD, NHS and others).

He said he would have nothing to do with digital ID as he believed that it was not tested at the ballot box, and was therefore without a mandate. Very pleased to hear that from him.
He also expressed concerns about security etc. The government clearly haven't done the work on this.

Oh that’s great thanks for this. Ik it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily out but I’m glad to see it.

He also has more sense and integrity than Starmer.

Edited

It is good news. He was asked if he thought other tech companies might take a similar stance, but he obviously couldn't answer for them.
I can't find a write up about it yet, I just caught half of the interview whilst driving.

Meanwhile, the ID petition is edging towards 3M signatories - although I doubt the lunatics currently in charge of the asylum will take any notice of it.

TheNuthatch · 02/10/2025 18:22

@Absentosaur I saw you post a link earlier on another thread and now I can't find it 😫. It was about the woman who Starmer referenced in his speech. Do you still have a link please? 🙏. I don't know which paper it was in.
Sorry to be a pain, I didn't have time to read it earlier

I'm beginning to wonder if this is the reason Cooper was moved out of the Home Office. There are apparently dissenting voices in the cabinet, and Cooper is on record saying that Labour would not be introducing ID. The Home Office have washed their hands of it, and it's been given to Liz Kendal's department.

I'm hopeful that this will end up being another u turn as it fails to survive contact with reality.

According to the Telegraph, Israel blames Starmer - unsuprisingly. No matter how KS tries to spin it, or how tightly he wrings he hands while dishing out meaningless rhetoric, this isn't going to go away, and he seriously needs to consider his position.

I really hope so. Hopefully any supplier that gets close to it needs to have ballot box approval first. Even if unscrupulous Starmer doesn’t think so.

He won't do any of those things unfortunately. He has no self awareness or capacity for introspection.

Yes, his giant ego dictates he will (somehow) have to be pushed; he won't go quietly.

I've been off SM all afternoon as I couldn't bear to read any apologists for this.

EmeraldRoulette · 02/10/2025 20:18

I'm not sure where to put this thought so I hope it's alright to put it here

I am struggling with absolute massive fury today

I lost friends in a terror attack. So... there's that.

However, there are many governments who are guilty of sitting on their hands about this problem

I really hope it's okay to say that on this thread - so much of the Internet is hostile to the point of view of "normal" people

I also feel as if things are on the edge of absolute chaos. Hopefully, I'll feel calmer tomorrow.

interesting about the head of Palantir, thanks for sharing. I'm genuinely surprised by that one. I thought they'd be all over it.

So sorry this is happening.

You should be able to live in peace. You should be able to feel safe.

What happened is appalling. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Thank you, everyone, and I didn't mean to bring anyone down. Please talk as freely as you like. I just didn't know where to say anything. I've got one other friend who was bereaved in the same situation, but the others have all drifted off. He's not a talker so he will not be happy if I message him to have a scream.

I did have a chat with my Jewish neighbour who was very kindly more worried about me than himself today. He did point out that he's supposed to hold his anger in, on today of all days. I expect we'll have a pub visit and a bit of a rant at the weekend.

as you were, guys. I didn't mean to come on here and plop misery.

shame is not for the ordinary citizen to carry. I think it's fair to say we're all doing our best.

You haven't plopped misery at all. It's a safe space xx
