A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I am so politically homeless, in despair about who I could vote for.

Overall slightly left-of-centre but have no objection to private education/healthcare because I also strongly believe in individual freedom to spend your hard-earned-and-taxed money as you see fit. Socially generally very liberal but a sex-realist so recognises the importance of female single-sex spaces, and have nothing but contempt for the self-indulgent word-salad snowflakery of the Omnicause. Very much pro a safety net for the less fortunate in society but therefore recognise the vital importance of not strangling the economy nor vilifying those who pay the most tax. As an ethnic minority immigrant myself, broadly pro-immigration but it has to be controlled and fairly administered and not retrospectively changed; distraught by the emboldening of xenophobic rhetoric at all levels of British society.

This sums up exactly how I feel. Every sentence.

Upstartled · 02/10/2025 11:23

Oh no, there's been a terror attack at a synagogue in Manchester. Four people injured. Looks like there is a concern the suspect had a bomb. He's been shot by the police.

I feel the same way. I think the Conservatives under Kemi are my nearest match. I’m not sure that I would feel the same if Jenrick took over- might as well vote Reform. He’s too reactive for me.

We'd have to be careful about who we let in, I don't want anyone crying and shaking because someone knocked at the door of No.10.

😂😂😂😂

Well, perhaps some recognition by Labour, politicians and supporters, of the dangers facing British Jews might have helped. You know, like not encouraging the murderous fringes of the anti-Israel industry by not ‘recognising’ Palestine and not forcing through motions at the Labour conference about a bogus genocide.

I was sat on my hands trying to think how to write that coherently.

Labour’s rhetoric is dangerous. Starmer is stoking tensions with his sloganeering.

I got teary reading about that attack. It’s awful.

Agreed 💯

Actions have consequences

TheNuthatch · 02/10/2025 11:41

The person who was stabbed appears to be the synagogue's security guard.
The fact that they even need a security guard speaks volumes. Disgusting.

There is an organisation called the Community Security Trust and they are trained volunteers who protect Synagogues and Jewish schools. The fact any community in our country needs this protection is horrifying. They are the people you can see on the news with CST on their caps.

Thanks to those affected.

Fuck.
It's horrific

Upstartled · 02/10/2025 11:51

^^The Labour MP for Blackley and Middleton South said he had noticed Jewish constituents feeling less safe in recent years.

Asked if that was the case, he told GB News: “Yes, the Community Security Trust who are the Jewish security operatives have been reporting, really since the start of the Gaza war, an increase in violence against Jewish people of about 400 per cent.

“Having said that, I mean, Manchester is a very tolerant city by and large. The synagogue is next to an area which is mixed, really... and it is a very tolerant multicultural community.”^^

How tolerant can the multicultural community be if there's been a 400% rise in concerns about the safety of Jews in his constituency since 2023?

EmpressoftheMundane · 02/10/2025 12:13

A lot of nasty stuff his happening to Jews in our country. Excrement on synagogue doors, people being harried in the street, etc. Somehow never makes the BBC.

Rivalled · 02/10/2025 12:19

Two people other than the terrorist confirmed dead, how terribly sad.

Yes, the attack was timed to cause maximum effect. It's appalling.

LeakyRad · 02/10/2025 12:37

Terrible terrible news Sad

Catatemyhomework · 02/10/2025 13:01

Just no words. Awful news 😢

Upstartled · 02/10/2025 13:05

They've locked down the nearby hospitals.

GabrielsOboe · 02/10/2025 13:11

I fear for the UK, I really do.

Some of the recent rhetoric has been irresponsible, and I will be keenly watching how the government handles this.

Any attempt at gaslighting or deflection will not be accepted by the majority of reasonable people.

I agree politically homeless. Just want someone to balance the books. If you have private schooling, healthcare. Fine relieves the pressure on the state.

If someone has spent their adult life paying into a pension, leave them be. They won't need state care in a home if they have assets.

I just want them to think like the old fashioned family. Can I afford this? If not do without or save up.

They've followed all the rules. Been careful with money. Not burdened the state. What have they done to deserve such a kicking.

TheNuthatch · 02/10/2025 13:39

Upstartled · 02/10/2025 13:05

Yep. Just heard my local one is in lockdown. Life threatening and urgent patients only. I hope that doesn't mean that they're expecting further attacks.
