Polly Toynbee there articulating what I was trying to say much more eloquently.

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2025 12:28

It feels kind of topsy turvy when we worry more about the demise of the Tory party and/or their lurch to the right than many of their voters

Apparently 20 Tory councillors have defected to Reform today Shock

That's not good.

Rats fleeing a sinking ship. Wise men say only fools rush in. Fools falling in love.

Reform won't last, none of Fartage's parties ever had. UKIP, Brexit and now Reform. It's just a money pyramid making scheme for him.

Saucery · 07/10/2025 12:41

I don't know if it was autocorrect or not but I've just seen Jenrick referred to as 'Robert Generic' on a local FB group. Is that like Basic Bitch? Generic Racist Cockwomble?

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2025 12:42

As for the other thread, you know who they are, the cognitive dissonance is highly marked. First remove the plank from your own eye, before removing the speck from others.

DuncinToffee · 07/10/2025 12:48

Jenrick is going all Far-Reich

'let's take our country back' Hmm

Farage's shtick is that Reform is an alternative to the established parties. If this keeps up, Reform might lose support as it risks becoming the Tory party 2.0.

It's bizarre when people on vox pop (can't stand them) say no party speaks for me so I'm voting Reform. Can they not see?

Sadly, the people pf Wales have to worry right now. Seven months until our elections.

Plaid showing strongly in the Caerphilly by election.

Are there no women politicians in Wales? The Reform candidate wants to save the NHS at point of entry - erm hello???

A general view of Caerphilly castle with a moat in the foreground, and a bridge across it.

Meet the Caerphilly by-election candidates

A guide to the politicians competing in, arguably, the most interesting devolved Welsh by-election.

That's good news, Cardi.

The News Agents podcast has been calling him that for ages.

Interesting to see where the ever patriotic YL has been sourcing his merchandise 🙄

Because that is the dominant vote. I don’t know what he hopes to achieve? If you are motivated by this, then you will give your vote to Reform.

Nobody wants to talk about the Conservatives as they really are - that their social liberal stance post Blair is now dead. When I think about them something that seems more like Reform, albeit that there was a moderate liberal part there too, the wets

Notonthestairs · 07/10/2025 14:32

I think he knows he'll have to go further than Reform into the Land of Lowe.

The Conservatives pre 2010 might have been far less socially liberal but the party attracted some interesting, thoughtful politicians who could engage on a range of topics without sounding like they were part of the racist lunatic fringe.

bombastix · 07/10/2025 14:37

Badenoch is toast. Absolutely finished. Jenrick is capturing the popular mood, he is determined to do it. She is reacting to him. That’s not leadership.

bombastix · 07/10/2025 14:40

Incidentally the polls don’t exactly give Labour a bounce post conference

Reform 31
Labour 21
Conservative 16
Lib Dem 13

Conclusion; good speech Starmer, but hasn’t moved the dial, and unpopularity unlikely to change

Still 3+ years to go.

Jenrick didn't make any friends in Brum, listening to local radio, and the two drivers for Ring & Ride I chatted to today. They were quite eloquent about the idea that you can safety discount what people say about a place when they are a long way away from it.

Where was that poll from? Some pollsters are merely existing on the clicks.

It’s the Politico average, drawn on 6 October.

No bounce. Thst is unpopular leadership. Make a good point, doesn’t land… well I think that’s an effective judgement

That would be the one that likes Reform! The fact Jenrick went down to this region of Birmingham is not news. It had been the target of social media and xenophobia for a good while before this comment. It’s almost a direct replica of comments you will find on TikTok

There is nowhere in Brum that I wouldn't go. Mind you there was nowhere in London I wouldn't go.

Notonthestairs · 07/10/2025 16:02

Well i suppose we are back to whether or not Sunak can claim to be an Englishman.
