I think it's telling that in order to find someone with the precise views they wanted, they had to invite someone who wasn't even British Jewish.

Who also rants about "elite, woke Jews". The world has gone mad.

SYL I think always pushes the "I'm actually really concerned about Jewish people" line. (Except woke Jews who disagree with him/don't know what's best for them). But loads of people in his various organisations are fully and openly on board with the idea that not only is there a plot to replace the white race with immigrants, but that Jews are behind it. (Why does it always have to be the Jews? Why can't we have some elaborate conspiracies involving eg the Scottish)
And Elon Musk got to do a full Hitler salute with no comeback. He then escalated to turning Grok into "mechahitler" who then pushed very extreme anti-Semitic ideas. But it should have been obvious that's where his mind was going.

It's a pincer movement.

A double dose of Brexit -

If people needed reminders of what Brexit has done to us all, 12 October will come as a jolt. That’s when the EU finally begins its long-delayed stricter border checks, with a new entry-exit system (EES). At the border, the system will take not just passports, but fingerprints and photographs, storing data to enforce the rule that no Britons can stay in the Schengen area for more than 90 out of any 180 days. (Take note, opponents of digital IDs: it’s already there for anyone holidaying on the continent.) A €20, three-year visa is due to come in next year. Thank you, David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage

It is going to be an absolute nightmare when EES kicks in. An awful lot of people are totally unaware of it, even now. It won't be long before we hear accusations thrown at the EU that it's all their fault somehow.

Ah yes, the old "they're punishing us because of Brexit" nonsense...

Yup.
Like my gym will punish me for cancelling membership by not letting me use the facilities.

I don’t understand the Seig heils anyway, but next to a Star of David is - well I’m not sure of the right words.
I have wondered whether they are sort of saying you, the other side, you are like this (at the anti protest) but not here from the looks, anyway it’s still a taboo gesture surely, and the disgraceful shouting can be aggressive enough without that as a resort.
Also wondered if they are doing it but it’s for the non whites/asylum seekers this time around and they’re too stupid to understand it doesn’t work like that.
Or if they realise it’s exceptionally offensive, but don’t know why at all, but we’ll stick 2 fingers up cos folk get irate about it.
I have read that you shouldn’t attribute malice when stupidity will provide an answer, but I still wonder what the stupid reason is.
Baffling when many are obsessed with WW2.
Also wonder why they’re not bloody arrested - it’s abhorrent but also criminal.

For those who take a niche interest in the Americanisation of UK rightwing politics, formerly Tory-linked student group Turning Point are increasingly going down the Charlie Kirk-type evangelical path.

[Not the point, but I love the idea of 2025 Soho being some hotbed of sin]

A student group? Some of them had a hard paper round.
the weird militant chanting is extra odd. Odder than standard evangelical stuff.

Thank you for your service - holding up some pedicabs and getting in the way of tourists.

Ah bless - boys will be boys who grow into stupid, porn addled middle aged men. I'm sure someone loves them for a price.

BIossomtoes · 06/10/2025 08:31

What madness have I woken to? It looks as if the Tories and Greens are vying to outdo one another in the bonkers stakes. The Greens want to “abolish landlords” and the Tories want to give first time buyers a £5k NI rebate.

PickAChew · 06/10/2025 09:04

What wide sweeping social housing initiatives have the greens proposed so that they can carry out their aim without leaving people homeless?

I haven't voted for them since they proposed pulling all funding from road improvement programs to invest in public transport. Investing in public transport - great. Leaving large swathes of the country with crumbling 1970s infrastructure and single carriageway main roads for the new buses to have to navigate with cars containing all the people who would still need 3 buses to get to where they need to be or have more than 2 bags to carry is a bit crap.

They need to move away from 6th form Politics if they ever want enough people to take them seriously.

Evenstar · 06/10/2025 09:11

I became a reluctant landlord due to the Liz Truss’ budget making it impossible to sell my house, I still have tenants in as I can’t afford to pay the costs of it being empty if it fails to sell in a reasonable time scale. The latest valuation is £20k below the last considerably reduced price it failed to sell at.

Perhaps the Greens would like to buy it and find somewhere for my tenants to go, they are a young family who had just had a rented house sold from under them when they moved into my house.

pointythings · 06/10/2025 09:13

I would like to know whether the Tories ' proposal for no benefits for non UK citizens includes the state pension. I mean, if you want to be a tax haven like Dubai, you need to offer carrot as well as stick - do they not get this?

BIossomtoes · 06/10/2025 09:15

No, the Greens want you to sell it to your tenants with all the rent they’ve paid you as their deposit @Evenstar. Doubtless it will go down well with young voters.

Do the Tories have a new leader? Krmi Farage?

Re the sieg heil next to the Star of David, someone posted a photo yesterday of a man from the PA demo. He was wearing a t-shirt with a Star of David printed on it, which had a swastika drawn inside it. There are absolutely racist bellends everywhere, it seems. I suppose it could be a fake photo. I really hope so.

PandoraSocks · 06/10/2025 09:29

Kemi Farage! The photo I mentioned wasn't fake, have just seen another photo of him on the Telegraph site. It is just so depressing.

Karistyleaftea · 06/10/2025 09:48

@PickAChew I agree with you .
I used to vote Green but your description of them is apt at the moment.
No confidence in their new leader either who,, in my opinion, is all about raising his media profile.

DuncinToffee · 06/10/2025 10:04

Tories are basically saying 'go back to where you came from'

Remove human rights, remove benefits, remove IRL and mass deportations

Xenophobic or plain racist?

I think raising media profile is vital to get your message across. Wish Labour would do it a bit more. I do still have reservations about Polanski’s message though, and his ‘eco-populist’ tag.
