Is that likely to cause problems abroad ? (I don't really follow Anglicanism ....)

DuncinToffee · 03/10/2025 10:28

No idea, but she is good at 'firsts'

In 1999 she became the youngest ever chief nursing officer for England.

She must have had 2/3 majority of the total number of voting members of the CNC - doesn’t mean there won’t be push back from some quarters though.

Notonthestairs · 03/10/2025 10:55

I was the first girl to serve in my local church back in the early 1980s. There were a handful of complaints. My grandmother & friends flocked to attend that Friday!

I don't care if it causes problems. The Anglican community in parts of Africa enthusiastically support the persecution of LGBT people, so they can just schism and fuck off. Good for the C of E taking this step.

A fond goodbye to Patricia Routledge and all her wonderful performances over the years. A very brilliant woman.

@bombastix a truly remarkable actress, I will never forget her Alan Bennett monologue Lady of Letters. She appeared on the VE 80 Commemoration and was still very “with it” despite being such an amazing age.

Great actress and enjoyed watching everything she was in. Dame Patricia leaves a fantastic legacy. RIP.

Agree her performance was sheer perfection, RIP Patricia.

bombastix · 03/10/2025 14:14

Isn’t it wonderful that all her performances survive? A life well lived.

Baroness Mone hits out at Kemi Badenoch over PPE VIP lanes:

‘I acted no differently than Matt Hancock who referred 4 companies…
And let’s not forget Michael Gove & his referral of 4 contracts to his friend David Meller’

So the fact that everyone else was giving their mates dodgy contracts makes it OK then?

I really think that politicians of all parties should be held to higher ethical standards.

placemats · 03/10/2025 15:22

Cry me a river.

Notonthestairs · 03/10/2025 15:26

Mone’s comms over the last week have been inadvertently hilarious IMO.
Very revealing.

She's clearly hoping to take others down with her. Shows the measure of the woman.

DuncinToffee · 03/10/2025 15:39

I hope she is only the beginning.

Let's hope she does. The just because they were MPs it doesn't excuse their corruption.

It’s like when you tell a kid off for talking in the classroom. The first response is often ‘I wasn’t the only one. He was talking too but you haven’t told him off. It’s not fair’. No consideration that they’ve done something they shouldn’t have. With children it’s a learning curve. Mone clearly never did the learning.

My mum was the first female lifetime member of the lifeguards club!!!
