If babies could be bought at shops, where would yours have come from?

DD1 mentioned how disgusting she thought it was that she was inside me. I said that it is a bit weird, and if I could have bought her from a shop, I would have done. She feels confident that she'd have been a John Lewis baby, but decided that DD2 is more a sort of IKEA vibe as she's more chaotic, but does the job of being a child.

If you'd have bought your children from a shop, which one do you think they'd have come from?

No one else has explained, so I shall. As a family, we like to eat. DS is very keen on Oriental food, as is DH. DS's first job was cheffing, and he is still very invested in food and cooking.

The gift shop at a chateau in the Loire Valley, perhaps Azay le Rideau or Chenonceau. Quirky and original, bit of history behind him, but with a slightly odd twist.

The baby says she'd have bought me at Oliver Bonas.

Lush

DD1 A designer clothes shop on the Kings Road
DD2 Decatholon, I suspect they would have had her on a sale rail at the front of the shop in the hope she would sell quickly!

IdBeLionIfISaid · 17/09/2025 13:37

DS - Natural History Museum gift shop
DD - Accessorize

SexedUpDossier · 27/01/2026 22:17

Theatrical supplies shop. She's all singing all dancing!!

mindutopia · 28/01/2026 10:26

One of mine definitely came from Lush. Loud and chaotic and always talking to you and spraying stuff that gives me a headache.

The other one is from an Army surplus store or somewhere that sells walking sticks. Muted and dependable and full of practical things.

Anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 28/01/2026 10:33

If Lush, Smiggle and Claire’s did a bizarre pop up shop then that’s where my crazy, pink and stationery obsessed girl would come from.

Paaseitjes · 28/01/2026 10:37

Decathlon. He runs small, is super active and at 10 months keeps introducing me to new sports like dishwasher caving and spoon throwing

Mooselooseinmyhoose · 28/01/2026 10:38

Costco. 11lb 8 - arrived in bulk.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/01/2026 10:43

DS 1 - one of those weird, pop up shops that comes out of nowhere, sells really individual stuff and is only open on alternate Wednesdays.
DD1 - a craft shop with a backroom where regular customers go to gossip and eat biscuits together and pore over the latest craft magazines. Nothing is ever made...
DD2 - Waitrose. Everything where it should be, in and out in no time.
DS2 - the kind of newsagent where you go in for a paper and come out with four interiors magazines, Country Living, What Car, Your Dog and fourteen scratchcards.
DD3 - Farrow and Ball warehouse. Probably created between Girlish Blushes and Deranged Farts

BeMintFatball · 28/01/2026 10:51

DD1 Lego without doubt
DD2 not sure where is deceptively expensive?

steppemum · 28/01/2026 12:52

Mine are all adults
DS - Sainsburys or M&S - solid, classic, middle of the road. Occasionally fabulous
DD1 - not from a shop, custom made in a vintage backyard somewhere. Not one thing standard, all a bit quirky.
DD2 - camden market - loud, unconventional in a conventional way. red hair and funky jewellry, DM boots and a jacket covered in badges.

sprigatito · 28/01/2026 12:53

DS1 - the gift shop at the Science Museum
DS2 - Hawkins Bazaar

Balloonhearts · 28/01/2026 12:55

Harrods food hall or Alexander McQueen. Costs a fortune but I do love them.

My son from somewhere like The Discovery Store when it still existed.

My daughter from Claire's Accessories.

M&S - reliable and good returns policy!

ChopstickNovice · 28/01/2026 15:22
