If babies could be bought at shops, where would yours have come from?

DD1 mentioned how disgusting she thought it was that she was inside me. I said that it is a bit weird, and if I could have bought her from a shop, I would have done. She feels confident that she'd have been a John Lewis baby, but decided that DD2 is more a sort of IKEA vibe as she's more chaotic, but does the job of being a child.

If you'd have bought your children from a shop, which one do you think they'd have come from?

Ours are adopted so it isn’t unusual for people to ask where they came from, the oldest cost us £30 so I typically say asda, where as the youngest cost £60 so more of an m&s food court.

Some on here once spread a rumor that I flew to India and bought loads of children, so hello, I’m waving if you’re reading 🤣

Haha I need to know more about this please. A rumour you bought loads of children? Bonkers.

Ds1 definitely came from Volvo, very sensible and reliable.

Dd2 is more like a Formula One car, bit wild and hard to control. Needs to be tuned just right or she'll go off the road.

DS from a Lego shop but the instructions were missing.
DD from a toy shop that sells noisy walk along toys with infinite batteries and no mute button.

DS1 - sports direct. He’s sport obsessed, and probably owns pretty much every bit of sporting equipment they supply.
DS2 - middle of Lidl. He’s chaotic, disorganised and is always full of surprises!

GivingUpFinally · 14/09/2025 09:04

Ds 1 - pc world
He's obsessed with computing and algorithms and says he's destined to create the worlds greatest AI Achievement and then he may be responsible for the down fall of the human race. He's 10

Ds 2 - Army Surplus
He's just a bit of a nutter and loves any army/military vehicle and insists on egg and solders (soilders) a every meal

Needlenardlenoo · 14/09/2025 09:05

Sports Direct. Actually I think Wagamama made her. We must have eaten at nearly every one in London and the SE.

Davros · 14/09/2025 09:05

DD (22) would be:
Liberty - good taste, likes good quality, die hard londoner
The Old Cinema in Chiswick or similar - antiques emporium, lots of stock from furniture to objets
Garden of local boozer
All would need to have 50% sale just for her because she’s not extravagant

FalseSpring · 14/09/2025 09:05

I Love this question!

  1. M&S - you know what you are getting, usually good quality and very reliable.
  2. Patagonia - expensive, rugged, and an idealistic dreamer.

Dd2 From the window display of a 1940s vintage boutique looking picture perfect surrounded by houseplants and pressed flowers.
Dd1 From the basement section of a wonderful music shop, among the bass guitars and drum kits.

Middle aisle of Lidl.
Totally unexpected and slightly weird

Definitely. Whilst also buying a greenhouse in a box , that is still in its box. And a scuba outfit that hasn't ever been near the sea.

BunnyLake · 14/09/2025 09:23

Youngest from Hollister
Eldest from a Vape or tattoo shop (🥴)

Raahh · 14/09/2025 09:23

I love this thread. Reminds me of the animated film 'Robots' where the child came in a box, and they had to build him. My oldest was about 3 at the time, and loved that bit! (He would definitely have come from P.C World. He's now a software developer. ).

DD1- An Art shop - via Ikea.
DD2 - Primark - smelling of Victoria's secret body mist.

AngelinaFibres · 14/09/2025 09:26

DS 1 ( now 32) from an outdoor shop. Probably one of those they have in America where it takes you 2 days browsing to see it all and there are giant stuffed bears on a fake mountain in the middle.

DS 2 ( now 31) from Currys/ Comet computer aisle along with 7 screens so he could watch a film, facetime a friend, play a computer game and do his homework at the same time

BlueSkySunshineDay · 14/09/2025 09:29

Sports Direct and Gymshark

TroysMammy · 14/09/2025 09:31

My niece would have come from Sports Direct as all she wears is sports gear. I wonder what she'll wear to her year 11 prom?

Love this lol.

One and only DS: John Lewis / Waterstones / Gail’s

The concept of growing a baby inside a woman still seems pretty crazy to me. When we cuddle, I touch his belly button, and we joke his belly button is more mine than my own.

I spend a lot of time with my DIL and my grandchildren. Sometimes I look at the 3 of them and think" you grew those beautiful people in your body". It blows my mind a little bit. When I had my own sons I was so ill with the pregnancies and then deep in the trenches of parenting ( I was a single parent by the time they were 3 and 2) that I didn't ever really stop to think about how amazing it is to grow an actual human person from a tiny egg.

frozendaisy · 14/09/2025 09:44

Eldest - Foyles bookshop
Youngster - Fortum and Mason food hall

weareallcats · 14/09/2025 10:01

DS1 - German theme park merch shop
DD and DS2 - Blackwells Sci-fi and Manga

BlowADandelion · 14/09/2025 10:17

One from a funky out of the way gaming shop, and one from an expensive independent fabric shop, edited to add or Waterstones

If you have grandchildren, they would have been part of you too at one stage. A girls egg cells are formed whilst they are in utero

My ex used to say after a night of broken sleep or a robotic malfunction toddler tantrum that we should ould take them back to the catalogue. My reply always was which one? It was either Argos or IKEA.
