If babies could be bought at shops, where would yours have come from?

DD1 mentioned how disgusting she thought it was that she was inside me. I said that it is a bit weird, and if I could have bought her from a shop, I would have done. She feels confident that she'd have been a John Lewis baby, but decided that DD2 is more a sort of IKEA vibe as she's more chaotic, but does the job of being a child.

If you'd have bought your children from a shop, which one do you think they'd have come from?

Love this lol.

One and only DS: John Lewis / Waterstones / Gail’s

The concept of growing a baby inside a woman still seems pretty crazy to me. When we cuddle, I touch his belly button, and we joke his belly button is more mine than my own.

Deadringer · 13/09/2025 23:27

Pound shop

Booths too with a Gail’s concession. 😄

Booths. Love Booths. Adore Booths 😁

My DS would be either Waterstones or Pets at Home

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2025 23:31

an outdoors shop or chandlery for my dd I think.

onyourway · 13/09/2025 23:36

Peter Jones
Screwfix
Shein

😀

GarlicPint · 13/09/2025 23:38

Ali Express 😢 First five were undelivered, the sixth was damaged in transit and didn't work on arrival. I stopped ordering them after that. Should've gone to John Lewis in the first place.

(I have had some decent stuff from Ali X, btw, but it's always a venture into the unknown!)

daffodilandtulip · 13/09/2025 23:39

DD there needs to be some kind of charity shop version of a science museum for her. She's a complete genius geek who is a complete mess.

DS came from an internet cafe. Full of sugar and obsessed with screens.

Pixiedust49 · 13/09/2025 22:35

Definitely Sports Direct or maybe JD 😂

Mine too.

PermanentTemporary · 13/09/2025 23:42

An unexpectedly expensive pop-up boutique selling refurbished bikes, reconditioned tech and dubious ‘vintage’ t-shirts, with a guy called Fat Terry at one end flipping burgers.

Love you ds xx

Mine must have come from a garden centre. They are obsessed with buying plants/bulbs
/seeds ect.

There are worse places, and worse obsessions I suppose.

murasaki · 13/09/2025 23:46

Can I use nieces?

No 1, a concession of Waterstones inside Camden market.

No2, the world's largest bouncy ball and spacehopper emporium , ideally located within a trampoline park.

LaundryGarden · 13/09/2025 23:46

Spar. The entire pregnancy was fuelled by barbecue-favoured Hula-Hoops.

TiredofLDN · 13/09/2025 23:47

DS would have come from some mad antiques / curiosities shop, full of eccentric, beautiful and slightly bewildering things.

he’s glorious, but he’s very much a one off….

Cazziebo · 13/09/2025 23:48

Harrods! Can’t afford either of them!

Sgtmajormummy · 13/09/2025 23:48

DS a merchandise stand at a Lord of the Rings comic-con.
DD Waterstone’s coffee shop.

bapples1 · 13/09/2025 23:48

One of mine definitely came from one of those random high street shops that sell all kinds of tat & crap with the odd gem 😆

MuchTooTired · 13/09/2025 23:50

Fortnum and mason, they’re ivf babies!

Personality wise, hobby craft and nike shop.

Amethystanddiamonds · 14/09/2025 00:00

DD - Waterstones or maybe a very highbrow indie bookshop. Always reading, quiet, very reserved, thoughtful and never acts without thinking everything through.

DS - The Works. Can also often be found with his nose in a book but generally a comic or a fact book no one else wants to read. Much louder, whackier and brightly coloured than his sister. Extremely impulsive and speaks exactly what comes into his head, which is often full of rubbish!

ozarina · 14/09/2025 00:07

Waitrose !

sparklychair · 14/09/2025 00:14

Travelling Man.
I think this applies to me as well.

SparklyEyes1 · 14/09/2025 00:24

DD: Hobbycraft, half finished complicated projects that I don't understand and glitter everywhere, is going to join police.
DS: Boots, bandages medications and health. Is going to be a Dr.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/09/2025 00:30

Didn't come from a shop, both originated in the deepest depths of the back of the IT department where they'd assembled Frankenversions from various donors. Neither are particularly securely put together, the youngest's leg tends to try to rotate 355 degrees at any given time and the bit in the middle what holds her up kind of bent over sideways and collapsed in on itself in places, the hard drives are definitely overclocked, could do with defragging to prevent the skipping when attempting to process stuff - and whilst one's constructor was definitely more of a Doctor Who fan, the youngest's was firmly in the Marvel/DC camp.

MagpieCastle · 14/09/2025 00:59

Waterstones
Build-a-bear
Vinted

LayerCakeOfStrangers · 14/09/2025 02:51

DD - Hoopers. Well spoken, sweet, high quality, smells great.

DS - The gift shop of a really run down soft play. I love him but he’s absolutely bonkers and usually smells a bit funny, and Costs so much money 🤣
