If babies could be bought at shops, where would yours have come from?

DD1 mentioned how disgusting she thought it was that she was inside me. I said that it is a bit weird, and if I could have bought her from a shop, I would have done. She feels confident that she'd have been a John Lewis baby, but decided that DD2 is more a sort of IKEA vibe as she's more chaotic, but does the job of being a child.

If you'd have bought your children from a shop, which one do you think they'd have come from?

Pandora - Expensive taste
Waterstones - Nose permanently in a book
Claires - Likes cheap tack but costs a fortune
JD Sports - Came out wearing footie kit

BiggyJ · 13/09/2025 22:46

The bargain bin.

I didn't keep the receipt unfortunately so can't return...

DD would have been from a craft fair. One of a kind, very artsy, has clearly not been made by anyone who ever read a parenting book. Not made to a pattern. Bespoke, as it were.
DS probably a toy shop. Loud, runs in circles, brightly coloured, popular with smaller kids, so much energy that I’d sometimes like to remove the batteries….

HippyChickMama · 13/09/2025 22:49

Ds - PC World or possibly Waterstones
Dd - Blue Banana or a quirky flea market

OhDorWheresthesalad · 13/09/2025 22:50

The market. Whether that's Portobello, Camden, Romford or cattle depends very much on the day.

FunnysInLaJardin · 13/09/2025 22:51

both of them - some odd indie shop

ChelseaDetective · 13/09/2025 22:51

This is a strange but wonderful thread.

Your daughter sounds like a great girl. I can’t answer your question because I’m 100% with her on pregnancy, far too weird for me.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 13/09/2025 22:51

DS1: john lewis
DS2: waterstones

The kind of department store that doesn’t (and probably shouldn’t) exist yet; DD (21) is a little bit of everything and with expensive tastes but short arms and long pockets (it’s the Yorkshire in her) and a very high alcohol tolerance which she claims she got in the womb….

One is definitely John Lewis, likes her brands, very keen on cookware too, the other would be at the back of an antique musical instrument shop, hanging onto as many pieces of merchandise she could clutch

Chick981 · 13/09/2025 23:05

DS1 - M&S
DS2 - an indie shop which sells all sorts of crazy things and you never know what you might find

VivaForever81 · 13/09/2025 23:12

A French bakery.
French because instead of crying like a normal baby he had a French accent cry… Oooo La ooooo La Oooooo La.
A bakery because he was really scrummy and quite fat.

merryhouse · 13/09/2025 23:17

The Mugwump.

It's a Quirky shop, sells chocolate from that place in Wales and Tintin posters and jellycats and expensive designer costume jewellery

Absolutely gorgeous, can lose yourself in there...

RedToothBrush · 13/09/2025 23:17

Booths.

... see my post just up there about the Mugwump. Or there was a shop in Leicester called the Very Bazaar Grin

noonejoan · 13/09/2025 23:20

Tesco

Florencesndzebedee · 13/09/2025 23:22

Booths too with a Gail’s concession. 😄

GameWheelsAlarm · 13/09/2025 23:22

One of those totally offbeat gift-shop/mythic tat/costume sword/plastic joke & fidget toy/random ceramic & glassware shops that you get in places like Glastonbury, where it's clear the shopkeeper doesn't quite share the same plane of existence as the rest of us and has chosen their stock somewhat at random, and 99% of the stuff there is definitely not of any interest but as you browse you find one thing that you just recognise as something that belongs with you and you know that you have to get it right now because the chances are if you come back tomorrow there will just be a blank wall where the shop front was.

Ds - Apple Store
Dd - Urban Outfitters

I like this thread 😊

DD - A museum gift shop

DS - Home Bargains

MrsAvocet · 13/09/2025 23:25

DD was clearly from an expensive dance wear shop.
DS1 was from a model shop down a little side street that sells obscure brands and at least 3000 shades of enamel paint.
DS2 could have been from a selection of sports or music shops but in the end I got him from the Free From aisle in Tesco.
