If babies could be bought at shops, where would yours have come from?

DD1 mentioned how disgusting she thought it was that she was inside me. I said that it is a bit weird, and if I could have bought her from a shop, I would have done. She feels confident that she'd have been a John Lewis baby, but decided that DD2 is more a sort of IKEA vibe as she's more chaotic, but does the job of being a child.

If you'd have bought your children from a shop, which one do you think they'd have come from?

Etsy.
Was going for hobbycraft first, but far to OFAK to be found in a chain.

Kreepture · 14/09/2025 11:56

I asked mum if she was posting on this thread, where myself and my brother would have come from

DB - The server room of IBM, from the box of bits in the corner.
Me - Hobbycraft or the one of those Blue Diamond Garden centres that also have the Cafe & Gift Shop that sell jelly cats, jigsaws, sweets, and jewellery.

Eldest definitely came from an outdoorsy country store like Mole Valley, or perhaps even a tractor dealership such as Olivers or a John Deere dealership. She dresses like it too.

Papyrophile · 14/09/2025 12:30

An Oriental supermarket or Souschef.

Rendering · 14/09/2025 12:35

Mine came from a different era altogether - maybe the industrial revolution 1750s

Allseeingallknowing · 14/09/2025 12:46

None from Aldi and Lidl, then?

usedtobeprettybutImalrightnow · 14/09/2025 12:48

PDSA and Millet’s

TeenToTwenties · 14/09/2025 12:52

Save the children charity shop.
Or maybe Blue Cross or Dogs Trust

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 12:57

No. 1 - Waterstones
No 2 - Some expensive boutique
No 3 - Decathalon

Pramfaceache · 14/09/2025 13:08

Dc1 - some weird vape shop full of bob marley images that has bongs, fake designer purses and knock off labubus in the window.

Dc2 - an independent shop that sells ethically sourced art supplies. Smells of nag champ and herbal tea.

Dc3 - not so much a shop but he would have arrived in a too good to go bag from a hearty local bakery filled with mildly stale sausage rolls and jam tarts.

Dc 4 - a stall at the theatre selling programmes and merchandise. Dramatic fucker.

All 4 of them are utterly bonkers.

Carlsberg.Probably the best ds in the world.

Lollypop701 · 14/09/2025 13:19

Fab thread!

Dd I think I ordered her off Netflix but may have been silent night… she loves her bed and chill.

ds… built by micro soft delivered via deliveroo to a dodgy vape shop that sells cheap alcohol…in a football kit

DustyMaiden · 14/09/2025 13:21

Carlsberg

Pollyanna87 · 14/09/2025 13:31

Well, he once asked if there’s a Harrods in Scarborough, but he also once licked a glass cabinet in Harrods, so who knows!

Hazyjinty · 14/09/2025 16:19

My daughter would have come from a quaint bookshop, the kind that lets you sit and read and has something for everyone, my son would have been purchased from a STIHL dealership .i think my sister uses Mumsnet so if she sees this thread she will recognise her niece and nephew xx

Regatta. Spends half his time gleefully in a puddle.

Bbq1 · 14/09/2025 16:48

Ds - A guitar or music shop.

Sodukuchess · 14/09/2025 16:52

I find this thread quite challenging as someone who would give their right arm for a child.

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 16:56

@Sodukuchess This is a lighthearted thread that does not insult our children, simply acknowledges their differences in a fun way.

I really don't understand why you have posted this comment. It seems totally at odds with the thread or it's sentiment.

I find this thread quite challenging as someone who would give their right arm for a child.

Why? It's a jokey way of describing their children's personalities, likes and appearances.

Nayyercheekyfeckers · 14/09/2025 16:58

Fortnum and Masons. And then i'd eat it with a nice cup of Lady Grey tea.

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 16:59

@Nayyercheekyfeckers A child from Fortnums sounds high class. I'm slightly concerned what you're eating with your Earl Grey though - placenta?
