A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

That's a lot of cleaning and tasks @FourSeasonsLobelia An hour on the phone would be exhausting. 😵‍💫
☕️🫖🥐 for you. 🩷
If something needs ironing I pop it in the dryer. Works for a lot, but not all 🫣💁‍♀️
Sugar, trans fats and sweeteners are killers and are the easiest to remove from our diets.

Massive 👏 to anyone who has figured out what they want to be when grown up. I want to go for a Master's. Kids need to be in school f/t first, though.

Winter, I too, will never look at small dents the same. 😊

Driving in snow can be precarious here, too Viper. It get very icy, very fast here.

welcome back @crivit 😊

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/01/2026 19:29

Ooh what will you study when you do your Masters @Mumtobabyhavoc ?

petalpower · 05/01/2026 20:45

Just noticed we’re getting quite close to filling this thread.
Another. Dry cold day here and woke up to snow. The roads were ok but we have a steep and windy hill for a driveway which was a bit more of a challenge. The temperature didn’t really lift above freezing all day so I think it will be quite icy tomorrow.
Today’s jobs and achievements:

  • booked a boiler service for May
  • phoned the vet to request medication for Petaldog
  • took off the Christmas bedding
  • picked up a parcel from the local village and combined the trip with a visit to the hardware shop for a replacement lightbulb and chain for the bath plug
  • helped take down the village Christmas tree
  • two baskets of ironing
  • dropped off glass and textile recycling
SingleThreadJoiner2 · 05/01/2026 20:54

Ha, first proper day back at work and already I can't keep up with the thread 😂 I am pleased to see new friends though, hello!

Yesterday I went through another bit of wardrobe with my mum and got rid of nine dresses. Most of them I'd had for over fifteen years and also been passed on from family rather than bought myself so I didn't feel too bad about letting go.

Today managed to chat with the electrician about stuff to do at parents' flat.

D finally back at school tomorrow - though to be fair she was very good at spending the day with H and my parents while I worked.

RunningKatie · 05/01/2026 21:10

Evening all, back to work and school today. The dc weren't joyful about it at all but got going, it's taken many years but dc1 goes in without tears and clinginess now. At one stage I really doubted it.
Work was freezing, I've had 2 weeks off and pre Christmas was crazy busy so lots to catch up on. I've had a firm talk to myself, and am just plodding steadily task by task.
We've not got snow but some forecast for tomorrow and Friday looks like it could be interesting.
Today I've been taking down at the Christmas decorations but I've run out of steam so am on the sofa with a book.

Ooh what will you study when you do your Masters @Mumtobabyhavoc ?

I think it will depend on my feelings toward corporate culture at that point and whether I want to re-enter business. I'm very sour on it atm.

FoolShapeHeart · 06/01/2026 00:35

We have had a little extra snow today, so while MiniFool was pottering happily in the garden I have been swapping mattresses. The old one is a disaster, it's getting collected this week but the council need it to be completely wrapped & waterproof. It's a massive heavy beast 😮‍💨😫😭 I'm still ploughing through the laundry and dishes backlog, but other than an online meeting that's about all I did today.

SpiritOfEdna · 06/01/2026 09:26

Hello! Happy New Year! back at work yesterday (boohoo) but caught up on some lovely pictures upthread and yummy cakes and fancy travels. I spent New Year's Eve in my Niece's dancing around the living room drinking shots of Baby Guinness and singing Auld Lang Syne. Very unusual for me as I am usually in bed at 10 on NYE!!! I see @mumofoneAloneandwell was causing mischief in AIBU over christmas😄
We have snow and poor SpiritDoggo was getting confused by people walking past the house and crunching down on the snow through the night. She gets a groom finally today but I need to tell them to shear her like a sheep - she is very woolly, but matted on her paws, poor thing 😄Hope she won't be too cold when done.
Today

  • back at gym today for PT session, that was hard 😄
  • I need to find a tape measure to find out the damage from Christmas on my poor waist. It's hiding from me!
  • I was due to go to London on Thursday to the opera, but ended up cancelling ticket when realised how expensive the train would be....it was madness to book it for this time anyway, I have a credit that I'll use another time
  • busy looking at bathroom fixtures and fittings for the new bathroom and arguing about colour schemes 😄
  • The tree is gone, the decorations are down, still picking up pine needles - I would not be surprised if SpiritDoggo's coat is full of needles as every time she brushed past the tree there was a little shower 😄
Have a good one, back to to grindstone 😄, SoE

Just a large load of laundry here getting done.
It's fairly tidy, although, I can always vacuum.
Didn't get any snow here, just tonnes of rain, but one of the local ski hills reported 15cm of snow overnight. ❄️

FoolShapeHeart · 07/01/2026 01:21

@SpiritOfEdna the Great British Rail Sale is live now, up to half price on trains if you book before 12th Jan. There are multiple restrictions of course but if you find another performance in the next couple of months it might help the budget 🤞

My one job today has been a first draft of thinking through options for a big decluttering task that isn't working at the moment. It still needs costings, timescales and practicalities worked out before I can decide a new way forward, but I feel a bit more hopeful with the options laid out clearly.

Aria999 · 07/01/2026 02:25

@SpiritOfEdna I just took our tree down, I am lying in an exhausted heap on the sofa. I do feel old a lot recently! Going to look into HRT.... DH periodically reminds me I am still under 50 but I don't feel it...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/01/2026 05:26

Noting our thread is almost full ... 🤔

FourSeasonsLobelia · 07/01/2026 06:24

Morning! Ooh soon for a new thread!

Took tree(s) down yesterday.

Today i need to tidy for the cleaner and there will probably be a visit to the laundrette which I put off yesterday. I have a dietician appointment as well to see if some tweaks might help my illnesses.

Have a lovely day everyone (and a good sleep our lovely @Aria999 and @Mumtobabyhavoc )

Still awake here at 1:30am... bookmarked new thread. 🩷

Peridot1 · 07/01/2026 09:56

Thanks for new thread @SpiritOfEdna. Will head over and bookmark.

We are back home from Dubai. Full day travelling yesterday as we routed through Doha for some reason. DH booked tickets so I’m sure it was cheaper that way. Even if it was a bit irritating to see a direct to London flight taking off five minutes before our flight to Doha! I think Doha airport is one of the nicest I have been too. Will attach a photo.

I have read and caught up with the thread but won’t attempt to tag everyone.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - hope your nutritionist appointment goes well. Anti-inflammatory and Mediterranean diet would probably be good. Although some common Mediterranean foods can be quite inflammatory I think. As far as I’m aware the nightshade family particularly. Will be interested to hear what the nutritionist recommends.

Welcome to new people too!

So I have come back with LOTS of laundry to do. First load is done and partially hung up and some in dryer. I don’t tend to use the dryer much other than towels but I think I will have to as otherwise I’ll have piles of laundry hanging around for weeks.

And all of our Christmas decorations are still up. So today is laundry and unpacking and starting the taking down of Christmas stuff. Also need to pop out to supermarket for milk and bread etc but there is lots of black ice in the village so hoping DH will do that. In fact he will as I’m doing everything else!

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 07/01/2026 10:02

Resisting the temptation to fill up this thread 😄SpiritDoggo had her groom and spent the night running back and forth between bedrooms - we think poor thing might have been cold as she settled under a blanket eventually. She'll be wearing a coat today and is having to be coaxed out 😄
Thanks for the info on the trains, there is/was a replacement bus service which would have made a three hour-ish journey to London into 6 annoyingly. I'm also still scarred by turning up at the Wyndham theatre to see Kenneth Branagh in King Leah only for it to have been cancelled and paying £20.00 for 2 glasses of wine in Convent Garden before turning back home 😄However, in London next week for work so may try and fit in something cultural before I get my train home. First time in an office for over 3 years as my job is fully remote. I don't know what to wear 😄

Today:

  • work out why upstairs is freezing and downstairs not!
  • tidy my desk - it's full of crafty debris and minging mugs
  • finance admin - eeek
  • need to Have A Word with someone in work - tricky over teams, rather do it face to face but unless I get on a plane...
  • more bathroom research
  • need to work out if some of my plants naturally grow outwards or upwards or if I am just not doing something right with helping them go up (that makes sense to me 😄)
That's all for now, have a good day, SoE

FoolShapeHeart · 07/01/2026 14:39

Ooh that's gorgeous!

RunningKatie · 07/01/2026 16:51

That is a fancy airport!
I've just washed my hair, I do not know what day of the week is, I keep surprising myself with it being Wednesday.
Our Christmas tree is naked but still in the corner waiting for attention - just one of many jobs I've started and then left for the fairies to complete.
Hoping for snow, dc1 went over on black ice this morning and feels bit bit sore. Ice is the worst, unless it's in a gin.
