A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

I had a PT about 18 months ago who wrecked my knees with her insistence on squats. Took ages for them to improve again.
I've uninstalled Duolingo! Wuhoo, I'm free!
Tomorrow is dinner with extended family, it's going to be interesting. I think that's the polite way to describe it. I'm trying to keep out of the dramas, I just don't want to be dragged into.

You speak too soon re being free from Duolingo. [nods grimly]. You might need a sage burning; garlic and a stake.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/01/2026 19:58

Mind you... reading the rest of your post... you might need the same for the family dinner.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/01/2026 20:15

Katie, Sometimes trainers can be so single minded and obtuse. Hope you make it through the family event unscathed. 😃

The farm work and time with the horses sounds great, Winter. 🥰

Peridot, sounds very fancy. 😋 Definitely a bucket list type of NYE holiday.

Made it out late afternoon yesterday. Traffic was brutal. Took dc to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. It was very busy as everyone else + tourists had the same idea. It was gorgeous, though and the kids loved it. Baby managed 90% of the walking without me carrying and it was a lot of stairs and swaying suspended bridges through the trees. I think we covered 3 km. We were there close to 3 hours including having a hot chocolate and a belgian waffle for the kids before heading home. If you holiday here it is a must-do and locals love it, too. The park is open year round.

Hello everyone and happy new year. Really enjoyed hearing about everyone's evenings and living vicariously through @Peridot1 's glam holiday! We had a lovely evening with our friends who left well before midnight so saw the new year in whilst already in our pyjamas 🎉

Started off well though with a visit to the PILs at the care home, and a big declutter of my wardrobe with my mum's assistance - must have got rid of at least twenty things, felt very good! Everything also rehung properly.

@FourSeasonsLobelia and @RunningKatie I periodically wonder about deleting Duolingo too as it feels like a millstone... But I'm doing Swedish at the moment and rather liking learning new things so I'm torn!

FoolShapeHeart · 02/01/2026 00:36

Happy new year to you all 🥳 Long time lurker, but this is my year for decluttering and organising and frugaleering. Today's daily project was reorganising the half-empty boxes and bags that held the Christmas gifts and wrapping, the gifts received, and the packaging that I failed to tidy/recycle when it arrived ✅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2026 03:01

Welcome, Fool. 👋 Sounds like a productive day. ☺️ I've been making it habit to hang coats up properly in the hall closet and tidy it regularly.
Single, Swedish? I'm very impressed. 👏

Tidied said closet today and took care to hang
dc's rain pants, vests and rain jackets together when we got home. Tidied shoe and boot box in closet which is on- going.

Spent the latter part of the afternoon with dc at the Polar Bear swim after party, took car through car wash on the way home and am now about to start dinner.

A few pics from the West End/English Bay where the swim and party took place.

Hello @FoolShapeHeart 👋

Is duoingo very addictive? I haven't used it but have thought about it.

Those pictures @Mumtobabyhavoc 😍

Lots of achievements there @SingleThreadJoiner2 👏

We have snow which was not forecast here. So that's inconvenient. It's above freezing so doubt it'll last.

I intend to wash the spare room bedding today as the cat has been sleeping on it and it wants a freshen up.

Stay safe and warm everyone 🙏

FourSeasonsLobelia · 02/01/2026 07:57

Snow!!

There was a strong possibility of snow here so I bounced outside about half an hour ago. Nothing doing sadly.

We have some polar bear swims here too @Mumtobabyhavoc but i suspect it is alot colder where you are!

Welcome @FoolShapeHeart !! Lovely to have you join our gang!

Re NY eve- this year we went to bed around 10 pm. Dcs were waiting up for the Stranger Things finale to drop on netflix so we did wake up periodically to check on them. But I did think about the scene in one of the Thursday Murder Club books where a character rigs up youtube to live Turkish celebrations which happen 5 hours before the UK so everyone could see in the New Year then could wend their ways to bed before 9 pm. Grin That is about my speed nowadays.

Today- some recycling needs to be sorted here too. And sweeping our porch!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day and our @RunningKatie 's family dinner goes much better than she fears.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2026 09:05

Lobelia, I think our temps and weather are similar, save for seasonal extremes. It was 4c today and calm, so pleasant, really. No snow this winter yet.

WinterFrogs · 02/01/2026 12:22

I'm having a day of a bit too much to do and all of it important. My office area is a bit of a mess and i have lost a couple of bits of paper that i need.

Actually none of it is urgent, so I have put the kettle on and will write a list, and keep calm, and just get on with things step by step. I know from experience that the lost things will appear if I tidy up, and not if I do a mad search.

I watched Mama Mia two yesterday, and it was funny and silly and made me cry!

Good luck with the family dinner Katie 🙏

FoolShapeHeart · 02/01/2026 13:07

Thanks for the welcomes 🥰 This has always felt like such a lovely supportive corner of MN.

Today so far has been a challenging-behaviour day for MiniFool and a sleep-deprived day for me, with lots to fit in. I've got veggies to use up, so some are finishing roasting with falafel for a slightly late lunch with wraps, and others are hopefully turning nicely into smug soup. We're running behind on our plans so today's daily project has been a quick one - cleaning the bathroom mirrors. I've been noticing them for weeks!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 02/01/2026 14:40

You are deffo one of us if you are making smug soup @FoolShapeHeart !

My newly decided upon daily project is to make a note in my diary to call a young lady on Monday. She is a fairly recent school leaver who has set herself up with a van and insurance and licences and does waste disposal. I have waste to be disposed of and no real energy to do it myself. And i certainly think such initiative ought to be encouraged.

Quite excited really- I have so much crap that makes me feel tired just looking at it. My brand new NYR- outsourcing everything I can't face.

WinterFrogs · 02/01/2026 15:59

That's exactly why i was going to say about smug soup, @FourSeasonsLobelia ! Yes you are, @FoolShapeHeart

We are having smug soup for our tea tonight!

WinterFrogs · 02/01/2026 16:00

Also @FourSeasonsLobelia brilliant idea supporting a school leaver with a bit of get up and go. Win win!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2026 21:24

Puttering here! Wiped kitchen floor and railing on deck. ✅ Will try and take tree down today/tonight. 🤞
Tidied dc's toys strewn everywhere. 😳
Am purging a bag of blocks for donation and going to take out two stacking toys. Havoc is very teary over it since I took 4 toys away already a few days ago. We have a LOT of toys. It's a bit traumatic for little ones, though.
Havoc had the wand vacuum and was vacuuming under a few things, so that was helpful!

RunningKatie · 02/01/2026 21:39

Family meal survived, didn't get a chance for a proper chat with my sibling as parent was hovering but everyone behaved well and who knows, we might do it again in 10 years!
I have been told to try cauliflower cheese soup, so once I get a recipe and a cauliflower then that's on the menu for this weekend. I shall report back.
2 days before school and work starts up again, the dread is creeping in.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/01/2026 07:28

I've tidied the kids' toys (on-going) and done a very good vacuum. B+ job, I'd say. Maaaaybe an A-

I honestly get a lot of satisfaction sitting here with everything in order.
Last night I put the stove-top drip trays into the dishwasher.

autumnangel · 03/01/2026 08:04

Happy New Year everyone! It was a quiet one here at Chez Angel. Lots of soup making and walks. Back to work properly today and hopefully back to some kind of normality.
I've been thinking a lot about what I would like 2026 to look like. For me it's going to be all about establishing some routines and habits and looking after myself a bit better - body, mind and soul. I'm hoping for a slow, quiet year with a hint of fun adventures
Today's jobs are to finish updating new diary and calendar.

Hope everyone is slowing getting back into their routines ❤

WinterFrogs · 03/01/2026 13:43

Hello from the sunny SE coast! A beautiful but very cold day.
Pleased to hear you survived the family dinner @RunningKatie Families can be so complex can't they? Would cauliflower cheese soup be a bit like broccoli and Stilton soup?
I made a magnificent smug soup yesterday, and used up all the wilted veg. Had to bin some parsnips though.
I really need to get good at meal planning!

@autumnangel I like the sound of your 2026 plans. I am thinking similarly. My nervous system needs a bit of a reset. So plenty of walking and soup.

Today I have cleaned the inside of on window as the sunshine is really showing the smears. It's also illuminated some previously unnoticed (by me at least!) long fine hairs on my chin so I have had the tweezers out! That was a shocker 😲

I have a book I intend to finish this afternoon. Starting as I mean to go on, so the phone os going off now.

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend 😊

FoolShapeHeart · 03/01/2026 18:51

Snowy day here! MiniFool was delighted and played in the garden while I tackled some of the kitchen backlog. My extra daily task was unpacking and rehoming a bag of new kitchen stuff that I'd 'tidied' into a Doom Bag a few days ago.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/01/2026 19:20

Fool, I'd take some snow! ❄️ We've got a severe weather advisory here with rain for flooding etc. 😵‍💫 We've just been through it for a few weeks before Christmas, too.
Winter, it's kinda like me thinking I look great when I wake up - then pop my glasses on and 😵‍💫

Kids are playing nicely together. 🩷
I've got the tv news on (re Venezuela), have had a nice piece of toasted sourdough with butter and strawberry jam and an iced latte and got a large load of laundry in.
It's very grey and pouring out. Tree might stay up.

petalpower · 03/01/2026 20:54

Happy New Year everyone. Will be back tomorrow with some projecteering!

WinterFrogs · 04/01/2026 07:43

Morning all! (Or night night if you are @Aria999 or @Mumtobabyhavoc!)

I was up bright and early today. Had my nose in a book for a while, did wordle and connections badly, and put a wash on. Also did my exercises ( they are mainly to keep me sound enough to do normal activity)

I see a few cobwebs which I will tackle today. And also I will clean light switches today ( and then will probably have a fit of enthusiasm and wipe down doors or skirting boards)

I hope you all have a happy Sunday 😊

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 04/01/2026 12:11

Hello! Very frosty here, but also beautiful blue skies, so no sign of snow at the moment. Feeling very smug because I accomplished something on my to do list without planning - needed to make a copy of some keys and happened to walk past Timpsons while having said keys on me, so in I popped! Very pleasing.

My parents are still here so H and I will take advantage of the babysitting and go out later today for a while.

Inset day tomorrow, so one more day before D is back at school...

Aria999 · 04/01/2026 12:16

Hello everyone! I wasn't paying much attention over the break so have missed loads of the thread. Will try and catch up at some point.

yesterday was chaos as we got back from the uk late the previous night and then it was DS 10th birthday. Managed to sort out present wrapping and unwrapping, cake, a supermarket run (me), some unpacking, shoveling snow off the drive and making lunch (DH) but only just finished cake by kids bedtime.

DS got involved with the cake as he wanted to do a Minecraft design, I loved his concept but it took a while, caused there to be a lot of concern from me about black and purple food coloring getting spread over the house, and was not entirely switched on to the limitations of fondant icing (no the dragon can't be flying even if held up by cocktail sticks).

we got there in the end without any birthday spoiling tantrums, I was quite proud of his flexibility!

generic wave for now, will try to catch up with thread soon. Work tomorrow, yikes!
