A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Ok I am caught up!

welcome @FoolShapeHeart!

so glad your MRI revealed nothing sinister @Peridot1

awesome that you had Christmas in NY @mumofoneAloneandwell! We are attempting a child free weekend in NY in February, just booked the flights and I also have the 'this really might not happen' feeling but it's not so bad when the flights are only from Pittsburgh!

re toy clear out @Mumtobabyhavoc we have a 'cooling off' box, the old toys go in it for a while then I take them to sell for next to nothing at kid to kid store. Psychologically easier for the dc than throwing them out, I do have to hide the box though or they keep getting them out again!

@RunningKatie sorry to hear you are feeling so stressed about work. Is it ok when you get going or is the job actually not much fun?

@autumnangel glad you got through Christmas ok xx

@FourSeasonsLobelia hope you are feeling better, that sounded nasty!

👋 to everyone I haven't tagged, better get up and do something useful now, house is still in chaos

autumnangel · 04/01/2026 18:11

Nice day at work today, I managed to get 2 of the kids out for a hike which was a success after 2 weeks of barely leaving the house. It was a really lovely day and I’m full of gratitude that I get paid to do things like that. Then I visited DB and SIL. SIL starts a new job tomorrow so I got her a card and some stationary and chocolate to see her through her first day. Home now and I’m absolutely freezing!
Today's project was to sort through my bra drawer. Now I’ve got some to post on Vinted that no longer fit (still have tags on) and tomorrow I’ll order new ones.
The rest of the evening shall be spent pottering about the house (my favourite thing to do!)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/01/2026 18:14

Aria, you made the cake?! 🏆

petalpower · 04/01/2026 20:10

So cold here - no snow yet but I think we could get some over the next few days.
Today I’ve been very productive! It’s so good to be back home and able to get organised.

  • 3 loads of washing including changing Petaldog’s bed cover and all his blankets. Also DH’s annoying thick jumper.
  • printed new car insurance docs and shredded last year’s
  • read a very boring pension summary
  • caught up with my brother about dad’s dementia decline
  • cleaned the top of the toaster with some damp foil - a tip I saw online to clean tarnish marks
  • repotted a hyacinth that needed more space
  • move various detritus that was in the wrong place
  • and lots of other very boring jobs too tedious to mention!
FoolShapeHeart · 04/01/2026 22:52

No more snow fell today but yesterday's hasn't melted. I've had the heating on all day and have still been chilly!

MiniFool wanted to take our decorations down today, so that was our extra task, and we also sorted through and decluttered a small bagful. Other than that there's been a little more decluttering, some laundry and dishes, and eating up the fridge.

It hasn't been a particularly productive day, but I've done my extra task, surpassed my daily items goal in the 2026 declutter challenge, and logged another No Spend Day - so I am counting today as a win 🏅

Aria999 · 04/01/2026 23:01

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/01/2026 18:14

Aria, you made the cake?! 🏆

I did! It was actually a very nice cake too. Decoration was a joint effort

Havoc: That looks like a good birthday cake!

It's a winner, Aria! 🩷👏

Peridot1 · 05/01/2026 04:46

Hi all. Last day of holiday today.

Caught up with some friends who live here last night which was lovely. And discovered something called post viral vertigo which friend’s husband had after flu recently and wonder if that’s what I had. So possibly I didn’t need the MRI but just as well to have it I suppose. 🙄 Not cheap though!

Spotted a thread called something like tackling one dirty job a day the other day - also was following someone on FB doing that last year. I think I might need to do similar this year. Have quite a few biggish jobs that need doing. So a list is brewing…..

Won’t tag everyone as need to get up and go for breakfast!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2026 05:22

Having breakfast, Peridot? You are up early!!!
I'm just in bed with dc. Having a family cuddle. 🥰
We went to the Maritime Museum then Jericho beach this afternoon. Saw a fluffle of wild bunnies at the beach. 🐰🩷😍

Absolutely no tasks done today at all. Tomorrow, is another day. 💁‍♀️

Still in Dubai @Mumtobabyhavoc to we are a few hours ahead. It’s 9.30 here now.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2026 06:32

Oh, yes, ofc @Peridot1 🤦‍♀️
if you can post any pics I'd love to see them. 🩷

Peridot1 · 05/01/2026 06:43

I’ll look for a few more but haven’t taken many

Daily Project round 8
WinterFrogs · 05/01/2026 07:10

Morning all! Excellent cake @Aria999 and great pics @Peridot1 and @Mumtobabyhavoc 😍

Busy day @petalpower ! I havent been away but it feels good to be back home describes my feelings about the return to post-Christmas normality very well 😊

That sounds like a very winning kind of day @FoolShapeHeart!

@Peridot1 I spotted that thread too and thought about getting back on track here in my household. I'm going to take a leaf out of @Mumtobabyhavoc's book and do some painting and deal with various 'dinks'.

What i must do first is declutter a bit then get some spaces reorganised. I've lost the 'place for everything, and everything in it's place' vibe.

Big wave to everyone else on our lovely thread ☕️ 🍰
Kids back to school today? Littlest has inset day so she's with me today 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2026 07:28

Is that a typo Winter? 🫣 Or are we having a cross cultural communication issue? "Dink" means something different this side of the pond. 😵‍💫

I recall fits of giggles when one of my very English elementary school teachers referred to a pencil eraser as a rubber, which means condom here. 😂 You can imagine how that landed with a bunch of 12 year olds. Daily. 😵‍💫

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/01/2026 07:45

Hi all.

Lovely photos of cakes and vistas!

Off to take the car to the garage. Then I have to hunt down what has happened to our travel insurance claim which Virgin are being very silent about.

Back later have a great day everyone!

SunnyViper · 05/01/2026 08:03

Morning all. It’s very white here. I got a call from my daughter(19) last night who was very scared driving in the snow and her car was sliding all over the place. I went out in the Land Rover to rescue her and took my partner who drove the Land Rover back and I limped her car home. We live in the hills and it was quite challenging driving 😂.

All safe though and two are missing college this morning, one happy about it and the other stressed but hey ho. Enjoy the rest of the day!

crivit · 05/01/2026 11:04

waves re-hello and happy new year to peoples

Dropped off the thread due to life crap and managed to return just before the start of a new thread 😁

Had a somewhat weird, in various places underwhelming, stressful and amazing, festive period. Good to see happy news on MRI results and holidays in my thread catch-up 🥳

@Mumtobabyhavoc I've just looked up dink in Canadian English... eek! Definitely doesn't mean that in the UK! It's more a word to describe small holes / defects etc. Like if you knock the wall moving furniture and there's a little hole you can say you dinked it or it has a dink.

@SunnyViper Land Rovers to the rescue 😁

My list-ish for today :

  • Yoga ✅️
  • Coffee and thread catch-up ✅️
  • Towels washing (in progress)
  • Hand-wash (well, on a hand-wash machine setting 🫣)
  • Pay bills
  • Batch cook (sauce and seitan)
  • Gym visit
  • Physio appointment
  • Work admin and lesson prep
FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/01/2026 12:18

aaah we use DINK like that also in Oz @Mumtobabyhavoc . But also to mean little dents as @crivit has said.

I did 45 minutes tidying downstairs and 45 minutes tidying upstairs. Next on the agenda is to get thank you cards in the post.

WinterFrogs · 05/01/2026 13:32

Aha thank you @crivit for restoring my reputation 😘 I did indeed mean small dents. I will never again look at my small dents in the same way 😆 (having also looked at the Canadian meaning 😳)

Excellent rescue mission @SunnyViper Lucky you getting the car to drive home 😎 I got once caught in snow, driving my mum's car with just a provisional licence, with my friend who had passed her test six months previously. I went very, very slowly in first gear and we made it back. That was in the 80s so nobody was all that bothered, except probably my poor friend!

WinterFrogs · 05/01/2026 13:34

I am eating spiced smug soup and a lump of cheese for my lunch 😋

WinterFrogs · 05/01/2026 13:37

I 'hearted' your post in the absence of a laugh emoji @Mumtobabyhavoc 🤣

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/01/2026 14:56

aaah no!!! After seeing @WinterFrogs emoji I looked again at dink.

It's not Double Income No Kids as i thought..... Grin Blush

WinterFrogs · 05/01/2026 15:03

I think we called that DINKY in the 80s @FourSeasonsLobelia no kids 'yet' ..and YUPPIES. What a time to be alive 😆 I had kids young though so was never either of those. I'm only just discovering what i want to do when I grow up. Currently doing it and quite tired, but have learned that age does bring a bit of wisdom, along with the fatigue.

How is your fatigue? 💐

I think we are missing @SpiritOfEdna and @mumofoneAloneandwell 😔

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/01/2026 15:14

Oh thanks for asking @WinterFrogs . My fatigue has alleviated somewhat and today I managed to clean downstairs for 45 minutes and upstairs for 45 minutes. Then spent 1 hour 3 minutes on the phone to the complaints department at Virgin (who to be fair were very helpful). So that's a huge amount for me tbh.

I have some ironing to do (in theory- it may not happen) and need to e-mail the young waste lady.

I did book an appointment with a nutritionist to see what I can do to support my ridiculous body while it cycles through all it's arthritis, auto immune stuff and fibro so feeling hopeful about that.

Now I confess I am sitting for a bit before getting the dinner on.

Hope you are well and your day with the littlest one was great!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/01/2026 18:21

So many posts! 😂
UK English dink = Can English ding 😁
We also use dink as a less crass prick in name-calling, although I don't hear it often anymore.
I've also heard the double income no kids reference. Kind of a snarky acronym, right?

I've put a banana bread in the oven and used the wand vacuum on and around the couch and finally am sitting with iced latte and warmed rosemary rock salt bagel bought yesterday. Kids had warmed challah with butter and PB. Chat show on. ✅

Baby keeps taking my bagel. 🤦‍♀️
