Daily Project round 8

A brand new shiny thread. Whether you want to do one extra thing a day, or a brain dump of what you have to do this is the place.

Lobelia, all I do is crush or mince a clove of garlic and pop into a pan with some heavy cream, bring to a quick boil then add to coarse mash and finish mashing to desired consistency. Dead easy.
Winter, it was very windy here yesterday. We went for an early evening walk to look at Christmas lights and I was freezing! How do you cook your duck?

I've got to go and hang up the laundry that just finished then get ready and head out for an errand and to get the kids out. The wind blew the clouds away and there's blue sky!

Some pics from last night at Trinity Street. The neighbourhood is well known for Christmas lights, is a mix of old and new builds, but not quite as many houses decked out as in the past. Still very lovely and festive.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. I tried really hard and have managed to find some small pieces of joy over the last few days - watching my niece and nephew open their presents, a walk at the beach, new books to look forward.
I've been to Tesco and bought things to make soup and pasta (the ragu is in the slow cooker now so looking forward to that later). I'm about to head out for a walk and when I come home this house is getting blitzed! The Asda man has not long been and usually I carry everything through to the kitchen but that would have meant opening the door to the living room and the poor man did not deserve to see that bomb site so I just emptied everything in the hallway. It NEEDS to get done today - hence the long walk as yet another procrastination tactic!

I won’t do other individual mentions but hope everyone has had a good time - everyone travelling has safe journeys, everyone who has been under the weather has felt well enough to enjoy the festivities and everyone with other stuff going on in the background of their lives has got through the last few days in one piece.
We’ve had a fairly quiet Christmas (lots of food, drink, tv and sitting in front of the log burner) but are hosting our friends and neighbours tonight (15 for dinner) and then other friends tomorrow (a more manageable 7 of us). Then DH and I go away for a few days over NY to visit the oldies. My dad has had a chest infection and a trip to A and E on Christmas Day too so I’m keeping my fingers crossed he stays well for the next couple of days. My brother (who is local to my dad) has gone skiing so the baton is passed to me. Not a problem but I’m 3 hours away if there’s any sort of issue. The care home are very good but if there’s a hospital admission then obviously family have to step in.
I’m about to play fridge Tetris as we have a Sainsbury’s order arriving and the fridge is fairly full with leftovers still. Also need to do a couple of loads of washing and start to find 15 of everything for tonight.

We had duck breast. Dh cooked it and i think he seared then in a hot pan, and then maybe oven baked for a bit.

I'm just enjoying the peace here. I would like to pick up some sort of routine again tomorrow. My brother came by today - he's hard to pin down and I don't see him all that often, but we had a more animated chat than usual which was nice 😀

I am enjoying my Christmas tree and that is not something I thought I would ever say. The traditional twelve days of Christmas is in my future I have decided. I might even make more of that next year.

I sorted out my sock drawer 💪

@WinterFrogs - sorting socks is essential. All my new socks are in the drawer, today's efforts are festive cowboys thanks to the dc. I've written out my new address book today and Dh has sorted a new plug on the bathroom sink. Such domesticity.

Just booked to take the dc to the cinema on New Years Eve, we were going tomorrow but when I went to book it seems the whole world has had the same idea!

Your photos are lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc - and your menu sounds delicious, if you were closer then I'm sure we'd all being popping around.

I'm home! Got home this morning, dunno how we made it, we were just over the whole trip and wanted to get home 😄. We napped and then went to pick up dcat from her sitter - i am surprised at how much i missed her

I've taken the tree down! 😄😄 and the lights. Just the small tree in the hallway to go, plus need some duct tape to get it in the loft.

I am fully over christmas and ready for my annual rebrand that has historically lasted a matter of days - been on Pinterest and everything

New York was truly amazing. Next time, hopefully, we will see more tbh. Times Sqare was good, busy, but not as bad as our trip to Oxford circus, honestly.

It was freezing though, which meant that we had to cut trips to rockerfellar centre and the empire state building short as dd wasnt coping. Next time, fingers crossed

We had mcdonalds for christmas dinner 😄, iirc. Just lots of cheap eats and dunkin donuts. Dd would walk me into one whenever she saw them, so I am glad to know that she was taking it in

On the way back, we got a disability trolley thing at Heathrow, to wheel us through, due to her autism, - dd absolutely loved it and was giggling the whole time

Love to you all - our plans for this week are to languish indoors and rebrand ourselves - ive even gotten dd and dcat involved 🤭🤭

Forgot to say that i'm making a roast duck right now! I missed christmas food so much, so i'm cooking roast duck, garlic mash (thanks to you all) and roasted carrots and parsnips 🤤🤤

@RunningKatie - I bought a new address book then realised that if I update it so many people have died / I’m not in contact with anymore and it made me sad so I put it back in the drawer, maybe updating it will be on the 2026 to do list 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve been for a walk, it was beautiful and so nice to get out for some fresh air. I’ve spent the last hour or so doom scrolling but I’m getting up now…well after I do Wordle and ny connections then I’ll get up…promise! I’ve only got 30 minutes of my audiobook left (I’m listening to Me Before You) I’ll need to chose a new one so that can be my treat for getting everything done.

That does look like a beautiful walk @autumnangel 🥰, as much as I am against the christmas walk 🤭 x

Actually, I really enjoy getting outdoors on the holidays. It's kind of a re-set.

I did a quick grocery shop to Costco around 4pm to pick up something for dinner;
cleaned the bathroom; and vacuumed. i think the Christmas decos will be coming down soon. The tree can be left out at the curb for city pick-up the new two weeks, so I'll take advantage of that. I'm looking forward to tossing the poinsettias I have. God, I hate having indoor plants.
DC are both asleep. I'm watching the Paddington movie. Off to bed soon.

Today I'm hitting the paperwork pile, I've been off work for a week and feel it hanging over me like a black cloud. So I've had a little cry, dh has gone to do a food shop and I'm ploughing through months of stuff whilst listening to the Calm Christmas podcast.
I had a middle of the night panic that a voucher I got for my birthday this year might expire before my birthday in January. Lo and behold it does! So, now booked in for a nice luncheon in a couple of weeks. Phew.

As my dd would say 'good morming' all

She says it completely randomly and out of context, which is fitting as we've woken up late here

So far, in the hours ive been awake, ive had several parsnips, some duck, half a Tony's chocoloney, and a can of coke zero

I've got to get the christmas lemon drizzle out of the freezer for later

We actually do need to go to ikea tomorrow. I'll open the window which will count as dd's fresh air 😌🤭 (joking)

@FourSeasonsLobelia I hope youre feeling okay? I saved so hard this year to do ny for christmas! When we moved, I really got the feeling that its time to start living! So managed to book the whole trip on british airways, I think in june, and then was so scared it wouldnt happen I didnt mention it to anyone 😄

I would like to go again, although it would be before christmas day - i did really miss watching eastenders and eating a roast 🙈🙈

Yesterday I was eating sausages alternating with the last of the quality street.
I get way too much fresh air. And tonight it's going to be crunchy salad as body is starting to yearn for it.

I've started work a day early just to get some prep in too. But only in fits and starts.

I'm looking at my garden and trying to work out what to do with it. And what I might need as my gardener from last year has got busy elsewhere, and I never managed to pin him down this year. I may start lurking on the gardening boards.

I feel you on RL needing attention @FourSeasonsLobelia! This thread keeps me motivated and I have found a couple of other 'wholesome' ones too. Much as I miss the dildo vs Christmas walking ones elsewhere 😂

Thanks, am feeling like I am slowly on the mend from this round of illness. I have done a load of ironing. And the ten minutes garden tidy. (I am planning 10 mins every day for a week or so). And called the accountant who is still on his Christmas break. DH has gone shopping for school uniform.

Last year I booked a trip via BA to Germany @mumofoneAloneandwell . It was terrific- ended up being cheaper and easier than trying to do it all myself as I did a hotel and flight deal and we were in a nice part of Munich and at a HIlton which ticked all our boxes. I am so glad you had a good time and enjoyed yourself!!

I am slowing down a bit now so will sit and watch a film then sort out dinner. I am also yearning for salad @WinterFrogs !

Thank you @FourSeasonsLobelia 🥰, it was only my 3rd time abroad (once with school and then one shite trip to Milan with my sd) and dd's first so was very nervous but liked using BA. That sounds like a good trip to Germany, it just takes the stress out of travelling doesnt it. Glad youre on the mend x

@WinterFrogs shes had an okay day i think, shes got instant noodles now, after a day of sugar and screen. I've been summoned to the kitchen countless times in my role as snack lady - i know what you mean, i'm sugared out now and need something light and salady - unfortunately ive got my lemon drizzle, and a steak pie defrosting.

For all my moaning, I actually have to go out tomorrow. Ive seen some play doh toy for dd and I think she might like it, plus she really does need some time away from the screen so we might pop to the park 😔😪
