A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I know this isn’t a thing, at all. And I’m sorry to be a pedant.!

I don’t like the woman anymore (I did think well done, before, but she’s since proven herself to be as greedy and corrupt as any politician).

Can we spell her name right. Not sure why it annoys me. Silly really. But Rayner. Like Ratner, but with a y 😉

I’ll get my coat now x

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 04/09/2025 10:13

This Reform surge is all very well. But I’m not willing to buy into a party without a rounded, coherent set of principles (particularly on public spending and the economy) or, even more importantly, a party whose candidates and machinery we know very little about. A Reform government may be a colossal embarrassment.

It was hard enough for a Tory voter like me to watch undisciplined, fractious behaviour by the parliamentary Tories. So I’m not hitching myself to a pig in a poke party just because it’s caught the public mood for now.

I like KB. I think she’s a decent person and would make a strong PM. I just hope the party can settle down and play its cards right.

The Graham Lineham debacle was like something out of 1984. A non-Brit arrested by armed police for a tweet made overseas, so I can see why Farage has grabbed this and ran with it. I agree, I don't like him bad mouthing our country and comparing us to North Korea but how stupid does the UK look with these kind of headlines.

The police saying they are following orders. Starmer saying the police should concentrate on policing the streets. What message does this send out to the world? We look like chumps.

I just caught part of Reeves being interviewed about Rayner; she believes the public will have sympathy for Rayner as a mum doing the best for her disabled son - said with a straight face, albeit with much stuttering and rapidly blinking eyes.

Agree re 1984. It’s lunacy

Is anyone else regularly checking the news to see if Raynor has been sacked yet? That would really make my day 😁

I've nipped to Sainsbury's this morning and bought a lettuce 😁

I don’t recall Gordon Brown or David Cameron behaving in a similar way to AR.

EmpressoftheMundane · 04/09/2025 10:24

If AR resigns or is sacked, she will still be deputy leader, won’t she? How does that work? Awkward.

Absentmindedsmile · 04/09/2025 10:32

She surely must resign. By end of today. They can’t conceivably have her carry on. Who’d be deputy PM?

I think this is why they are hoping she'll jump before she's pushed.

Would they not just appoint someone else?

Surely she has to step down as both Minister for Housing and Deputy PM?

Yes me. Keeping checking phone a) to hear from school if my daughters wide leg trousers comply with school uniform as if not have to fly out and buy more and b) to see if Rayner sacked yet.

😁 Can you not just say these trouser rules are vague and complex and shed a sad tear?

Hello everyone, may I join this nice thread?

Can I just get this off my chest and I don’t want to be sexist, classist or partisan but how could she be so stupid FFS on a granary toast?

You don’t make anything that could be a minima construed as a dodgy real estate and tax moves when you’re DPM in charge of housing, she blew her career off on this one. Silly.

The thing that pisssd me off the most with Rayner was the faux tears and bringing her child into it as a shield.
She sat there and said she was only doing what any parent would do - she crowed with laughter in HoC the day the Education Tax was passed. Which disproportionately impacts those kids with SEND. Whose parents were only trying to the best for their children.
How she had the nerve to sit there and say that 😡😡

Welcome! I love that Rayner is doing this for Labour. Helping out all the other parties rn

Searching4Alpha · 04/09/2025 11:23

Meanwhile, benefits cuts are clearly back in play…
Will be interesting to see how the back benches behave this time.

Arrearing50 · 04/09/2025 11:24

There you all are!
I was wondering why the thread was quiet!

Upstartled · 04/09/2025 11:26

Hello Inkognitha, welcome to the thread.

I agree Twisty, this defense that she was trying to preserve wealth for her child is justifiable because they have additional needs isn't cutting it with me and I'm pretty sure it won't wash with the HMRC either.

All true but still, unnnecessary. I thought Brighton was an accepting non judgmental place. People have no money and they are angry. I think.

@twistyizzy that’s what gets me more than the tax snafu itself - pity for her circumstances, but pity doesn’t flow in any other direction except to other Labour mates.

EasternStandard · 04/09/2025 11:36

If you spend your life calling people scum it’s going to come back in some way. Sneering superiority is not a good look but seems to pervade all parts of Labour.

Edited

Well said 👏
She wasn't crying when other's dc were being thrown under a bus for no reason other than spite.
