David Walliams:
“In Britain, a cup of tea is the answer to every problem. Fallen off your bicycle? Nice cup of tea. Your house has been destroyed by a meteorite? Nice cup of tea and a biscuit. Your entire family has been eaten by a Tyrannosaurus Rex that has travelled through a space/time portal? Nice cup of tea and a piece of cake...”

I think war on these shores will not mean external bombs and bullets to start with. We will be incapacitated by a freeze on the banks and/or utilities.

We will then fight amongst ourselves. It’s really scary.

I like the idea of a purposeful band of perimenopausal women sorting the whole thing out in a week. I would watch that show on Netflix!

Cheepcheepcheep · 01/09/2025 21:20

War doesn’t look like war nowadays. It doesn’t look like guns and bombs a lot of the time. It looks like cyber attacks and stuff. It’s a digital Cold War, and it’s been going on for ages - we’re already at war. I find it oddly comforting.

Yes agree.

We would WAVE FLAGS AT THEM!

In a patriotic way.

That’ll see off Putin etc.

Flags and Paddington'll do it.

PaddlingSwan · 02/09/2025 07:52

Well I did catch the end of a spot on national German tv the other evening about the reintroduction of compulsory military service here.
However, I do not think any war will be conventional. Much more likely to be economic or resource-limiting.

What they need to do is harness the power of mumsnet, all of whom can make a chicken last a week, manage every eventuality calmly without raising their voice and who would prove a fearsome enemy.

That's the issue - they send the wrong people. If every country sent their 50+ year old women to war then we'd have it sorted in a week.

Yes, if we all say " did you mean to be so rude" followed by a head tilt and tinkly laugh, to Putin, it will all go away😃

TheGreatWesternShrew · 02/09/2025 02:10

Reread what she said. She said it’s unlikely kids will NEVER see war. So they will see war.

You are right. It is written in an awkward way, though, with two negatives in one sentence.

ShesTheAlbatross · 01/09/2025 21:21

Sorted in a week?? MN would be starting a war over whether or not you should open the door to unexpected visitors!

😂😂😂

(Relly need a laughing reaction!)

Scandinavia have been preparing for war for a couple of years now.

Western europe appears to have been ignoring this - or at least there have been no media reports until now.

I have relatives in sweden/Denmark and they see fighter planes training on a semi-regular basis.

Fighter planes train over the Lake District (England) a couple of times a week.

Menopausal women-war= annihilation 😂

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 02/09/2025 09:41

It's China I'm more concerned with tbh.

And if you want the tin foil hat on I believe Covid was the start of it.

They have so much data now from us as westerners as we are gullible and by their cheap tat. Mobile phones etc.

I don't trust them a jolt.

And on a side note When Putin met trump it was all an act. He knows what he wants.

StandFirm · 02/09/2025 10:53

WonderfulSmith · 01/09/2025 22:31

Exactly. WWIII has been going on for years. It’s not like the first two. No guns, bombs and trenches.

Except for the Ukrainians.

The problem is that this is a hybrid war, with widespread disinformation, cyber attacks and trade wars - but also localised hot spots with mechanised conflict and trench warfare.

Which in many ways is also concerning. If resources are limited in the UK but people don't class this as a war situation then some people will definitely fight amongst their community for those limited resources.

We are all so reliant on electricity, internet, and ease of buying anything we need or want. It is going to be hard to adjust if those things become limited and difficult to source

That’s not WWIII.

Hitler’s annexation of the Sudetenland wasn’t WWII, until it was.

No, thanks. I know a bunch of 50+ women who are as crazy as they come. So very unreasonable, entitled and unable to see the world beyond their very barrow frames of reference. On the other hand they could possibly wear an enemy down through their sheer relentless unreasonableness.

Weird stuff been going on in New Jersey US for months now.
New tech being flown.
I dont know about France but something is happening over there.

Is it still happening? I followed at the start of the year.

Snakebite61 · 02/09/2025 17:49

GypsyQueeen · 01/09/2025 21:14

Not really scaremongering Sal. Just made me laugh really as we're so piss poor at everything in the UK. Like, seriously how the hell would we ever be ready for war...😆😅😅😅

Try stop believing right wing propaganda. They use hate and ignorance to make you angry. We are now entering magaland but in the UK. God help us if reform get in.

Cheepcheepcheep · 01/09/2025 21:23

Because yes, war is ongoing but I’m still going to tesco and taking my kids to the library and living my small, insignificant life. And I like that if war has to happen - as it has since time immemorial - it’s letting me have my life. Others aren’t so lucky and I’m grateful if I have to live during war it’s letting me just scuttle around.

💯

way more comforting than bombs and guns and fearing for your life on an hourly basis.

TheGreatWesternShrew · 02/09/2025 02:10

shes right. Unless they live under a rock theyre witnessing war - albeit not in the UK - on a daily basis in some form.

Feelinglostatsea · 02/09/2025 18:02

Theres only one thing we can do!!! To the loo roll isle!!!
runs to Tesco like a chicken with a rocket up its ass, to grab an obscene amount of loo roll like covid times 😉

Chinsupmeloves · 02/09/2025 18:06

There have been non stop military aircraft planes flying at the airport near us the past few weeks.

aintnothinbutagstring · 02/09/2025 18:10

Will enemy planes not be absolutely terrified by our painted mini roundabouts and flags flying half mast and often the wrong way up?
