Not really scaremongering Sal. Just made me laugh really as we're so piss poor at everything in the UK. Like, seriously how the hell would we ever be ready for war...😆😅😅😅

We would WAVE FLAGS AT THEM!

In a patriotic way.

That’ll see off Putin etc.

I just feel like warfare is an inevitable part of being human and if it can happen in a way that lets me have my life and my children aren’t at immediate risk of death then it’s an improvement. But I appreciate it might not make a lot of sense!

Yeah, I think I understand where you might be coming from! Interesting take! X

We're piss poor at everything? So we don't go to give aid/rescue missions during natural disasters around the world? We haven't got people who are always invited to help plan when the shit is hitting the fan somewhere? British divers didn't find the Thai boys in the cave? Our troops aren't well organised? We don't have good safety records? Laugh at yourself, you seem to know nothing.

What they need to do is harness the power of mumsnet, all of whom can make a chicken last a week, manage every eventuality calmly without raising their voice and who would prove a fearsome enemy.

That's the issue - they send the wrong people. If every country sent their 50+ year old women to war then we'd have it sorted in a week.

😅😅😅

FollowSpot · 01/09/2025 21:44

Actually we have absolutely fantastic Mountain Rescue Teams, Lifeboat crews and the like who are expert volunteers, brave and skilled. Fire fighters. All sorts of people,

Cheepcheepcheep · 01/09/2025 21:20

War doesn’t look like war nowadays. It doesn’t look like guns and bombs a lot of the time. It looks like cyber attacks and stuff. It’s a digital Cold War, and it’s been going on for ages - we’re already at war. I find it oddly comforting.

Yep, a news report on BBC this evening outlined an incident on a plane carrying Ursula Von Der Leyen. GPS was allegedly jammed by the Russians and the plane had to land using analogue maps after circling the airport for an hour.

Totally. I’m not a conspiracy theorist honestly! But the vast majority of ‘oh, this happened and now we will not look into it’ stuff just makes me think this is new warfare. And to be honest if it doesn’t involve a generation of young men being slaughtered at the likes of paschendale or Ypres then I’m all for it. Let the operators of this stuff pay the consequences and let the rest of us wage slaves just live in quiet discontentment imo.

Nihilistic, moi?

I seriously think that last part is actually true. If women ran the world I’m not sure how many wars we would have had

Nousernamesleftatall · 01/09/2025 22:00

We just have to collectively say no.

Southern25 · 01/09/2025 22:04

I’m sure even Putin isn’t mad enough to start a war with NATO?

carowils · 01/09/2025 22:04

On reddit there were tons of posts everywhere about a false flag alien invasion this November. I feel like ever since Sept 11 2001 we've all be waiting for the next big thing to happen and the next and so on.

Scandinavia have been preparing for war for a couple of years now.

Western europe appears to have been ignoring this - or at least there have been no media reports until now.

I have relatives in sweden/Denmark and they see fighter planes training on a semi-regular basis.

Fighter planes train all the time and always have. I used to watch them in rural Wales in the 80s. What do you think RAF pilots do all day?

EmeraldRoulette · 01/09/2025 22:08

Not going to click on it

War with whom?

at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sheldon Cooper prediction of the cash machines rising up is about to happen.

It did make me laugh. If you don't like it, I guess it's a problem that you have.
Go & read a thread about baking if that's more your cup of tea 🍵

Putin can’t even fully invade and hold Ukraine which is his next door neighbour. British intelligence has predicted that, at the current rate, it will take Russia a further 4 years to fully take Ukraine. Given that this is such a protracted quagmire for Russia, it’s unlikely putin has the resources to invade Europe and then successfully hold territory. It’s pointless for him too as it would violate article 5 of nato and instigate huge repurcussions.

I think it’s far more likely that the next crisis will be borne of climate change - millions of people fleeing parts of the world too hot and dry to live in anymore. This may actually be more what France’s critical infrastructure is being prepared for.

Sorted in a week?? MN would be starting a war over whether or not you should open the door to unexpected visitors!

However a fairly high proportion don't have amazing comprehension skills and often miss key information in the opening post.

I'd be slightly concerned that the MN army could end up fighting the wrong enemy due to skimming the initial memo tbh.

I hear what you're saying and hope you're right. But hospitals on the continent are getting war ready. So what's all that about.

RedRiverShore5 · 01/09/2025 22:17

I read this earlier and just knew there would be a thread about it

RedRiverShore5 · 01/09/2025 22:22

Maybe they are going to throw up a few nightingale hospitals
