Well. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to panic buy M&S bread-and- butter pudding and stockpile it.
Thanks for the conflict heads up, OP 👍

There is a lovely French cafe near me that makes bread and butter pudding from the previous days pain au chocolat.

Well women don’t typically start wars tbf. Can we leave all the men to it and go and start our own society elsewhere?! 🤣

Have you ever worked in an all female environment? Too many women together can be awful in a different way, men are definitely needed to lighten the topics and reduce the spite a bit 😂

I mean it's emergency preparedness

I do think it's unlikely kids born today will never know war, though

You do realize there is a full scale war in Europe at the moment?

of course you can start whatever kind of thread you like, but when you lack the skill to make it clear you're laughing at something then don't be surprised if people take it at face value.

The problem I have is your responses to posters who took your post at face value.

i think your lists are snippy, bitchy & unnecessary.

Your post to me was patronising, but luckily I see you for what you are 🙅🏻‍♀️

I didn't make it clear I was joking? I made a flippant comment about snow accompanied by several laughing emojis.
🤣🤣🤣 See.

And I have absolutely no interest in what your problem is. I imagine you have many 🤔🤔

And you deserve to be patronised. Don't address me again.

I will curtsey to you Ma"am. I recognise your valid concerns about snow and possible warfare. I'm a wizard with snow clearing but know little about armed conflict. However, no-one has beaten me to a parking space yet 💪

Nachoinseachthu · 02/09/2025 00:46

This feels like a historic week to me, in a quiet way.

Anniversary today of WW2 breaking out.

Putin, Xi and Modi holding hands and chortling with one another at the SCO summit.

Trump missing and seemingly incapacitated.

Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing this Thursday

The European Commission President’s plane having its GPS system jammed while flying over Bulgaria.

Trump’s mad, capricious tariff-setting and lies about solving the India-Pakistan conflict pushing India towards China and Russia.

Isn’t everything beginning to boil over? I feel sad about it all.

Nachoinseachthu · 02/09/2025 00:51

Posting too late… didn’t realise this thread was mostly flippant!

I do think we’re on the brink of some really bad shit though. As someone said, all the tech being trialled in New Jersey… the Israelis trying out new weaponry on the Palestinians, and sharing their learning outcomes with European / US militaries… etc

AlertEagle · 02/09/2025 01:00

Have to go buy every single pack of toilet paper now 😂

GypsyQueeen · 01/09/2025 21:42

Oh Lord chill out!!! 😎

I'm not a fan of that tone either but they are right our search and rescue teams, medics, engineers and armed forces are sought out and respected the world over for good reason.

Thunderdcc · 01/09/2025 22:16

However a fairly high proportion don't have amazing comprehension skills and often miss key information in the opening post.

I'd be slightly concerned that the MN army could end up fighting the wrong enemy due to skimming the initial memo tbh.

😂

MyLittleSodaPop · 02/09/2025 01:58

Well, I’m buggered if I’m going to war. Not with my knees. However, if war does break out on the domestic front, I will stuff myself with eggs and cauliflower cheese and deliver a series of farts so deadly it will melt the face off any attackers.

TheGreatWesternShrew · 02/09/2025 02:07

GypsyQueeen · 01/09/2025 21:14

Not really scaremongering Sal. Just made me laugh really as we're so piss poor at everything in the UK. Like, seriously how the hell would we ever be ready for war...😆😅😅😅

We’ve actually won quite a few wars in our time. We’re pretty decent at them. Our forces even train the U.S. forces… plus if we’re attacked usually we’ve got half the planet as allies to help us.

We’re shit at a lot of things. War, traditionally, is not one of them. We also have nukes.

TheGreatWesternShrew · 02/09/2025 02:10

TheQuirkyMaker · 01/09/2025 23:22

Reread what she said. She said it’s unlikely kids will NEVER see war. So they will see war.

IShouldNotCoco · 02/09/2025 02:12

Halfway through the article it does concede that ‘Russia is unlikely to attack NATO countries’ so it’s as if they are ‘preparing’ for a mistake.

Seriously, though - taking Ukraine wasn’t the walk in the park that Putin imagined.

PrestonHood121 · 02/09/2025 03:02

Of course the UK won’t be ready, but we’ll be on the phone to the USA asap when it all hits the fan.

Scandinavia have been preparing for war for a couple of years now.

Western europe appears to have been ignoring this - or at least there have been no media reports until now.

I have relatives in sweden/Denmark and they see fighter planes training on a semi-regular basis.

You just have to watch flight radar or live near me to know we have military jets and military exercises going on daily.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 02/09/2025 06:32

honeyytoast · 01/09/2025 22:00

I seriously think that last part is actually true. If women ran the world I’m not sure how many wars we would have had

Well, I don’t know whether relative to the number of women leaders it’s a lot or not but there have been a few. Of the top of my head there’s Boudica, Catherine the Great, Elisabeth the first, Indirah Ghandi, Thatcher and, I’m sure, at least one in China though I don’t recall the name. I think though, bar Elisabeth and maybe the Chinese one, they all went to war to defend existing territory not to expand it. Perhaps that’s the big difference!

travellinglighter · 02/09/2025 06:36

It is scaremongering, Russia is in no position to take on another war, it’s barely coping with the one it already has. It’s lost a large proportion of its armoured forces, its economy is down the pan and relying on sales of oil that it can’t keep up with because the Ukrainians have mounted a sustained attack on its refineries.

Europe outnumbers it in armour, man power, air power and naval power and that’s assuming that the Americans won’t stand by their commitments under article 5 of the NATO agreement.

The real danger comes when the Ukrainian war is over. Europe has to man up and establish something like a European combined army. The problem we have now is that we rely on American logistical power to such an extent that we will struggle to mount an effective defence without them.
