Labour isn't working - Thread 6

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I had forgotten half of that. I am struck by how desperate the moderator is to stop him saying any of this.

Sunak was ridiculed and mocked by Labour throughout yet he was 100% correct.
He was the right PM at the wrong time sadly.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 24/08/2025 17:49

I don’t think we can judge the fairness of that on an edited version.

What is striking, though, is that the basic predictions have been proven true. That clip - and others from the last election - arguing against a Labour government will be prominent after the next budget and it will be very, very painful for Labour.

What’s so patently obvious is that if public spending can’t be brought down, and we know for certain it can’t be after the welfare cuts debacle, and because of the lack of any meaningful growth in the economy, there will have to be substantial tax rises. This is an economic car crash.

Thanks Keir and Rachel. Top work. 🙄

I think Sunak was very intelligent and trying to hold the country together. He was harassed at every turn and not given much of a chance. With a young family to consider, it’s no wonder he threw in the towel.

Turns out that navigating the economy is much harder than Labour thought. It was always so juvenile to pretend that there were limitless resources, and it would be the land of milk and honey, were it not for the mean old Tories keeping it all for themselves and their friends.

In fact, mismanagement and stubborn fantastical thinking can create less for everyone. Now we are stuck with an ever shrinking economy. Every time the Labour government tries to redistribute more to their clients, the economy shrinks further. Will they never learn? Certainly, the clients have an interest in not learning.

My husband and I are in our mid-fifties. It’s very scary. If they appropriate everything we have, we will not have enough time left to earn it all back again.

They'll steal what they can, but there's a limit to what they can take in 1 term. Hold tight.

I'd be far, far more worried if I were low income and relying on the state.

Indeed. He told us. Everything he said would happen has happened. Everything he said Labour would do, they’ve done / are doing.

Thank you for that. Very true. Sunak was torn to shreds for claiming that Labour would put up taxes. I watched all the leader debates. Starmer was consistently full of shit, Sunak was consistently shut down.
I was thrilled when Sunak finally lost his shit at one of them and gave Starmer both barrels 😁.

I got loads of shit thrown at me on MN around the time of the debates. My crime? Liking Sunak.

It's so nice to have a thread where being a fan of Sunak doesn't draw abuse ❤️. You are a fab bunch x

Because we aren't bogged down with ideological doctrine

Boohoo76 · 24/08/2025 19:04

When Sunak and Hunt were running the show, things felt calm and controlled. Starmer and Reeves are the very opposite of this.

I don’t know…I feel low income (or no income) and relying on the state are being taken care of, it’s the rest of us they’re coming for,

Has anyone seen this? Had a good chuckle at it: Farage like garage.
The man can do comms!

Blimey, he can indeed do comms. I was weirdly hypnotised.

Yes I agree.
I'm not just saying this because they're Labour, but it feels rudderless under Starmer.

The Rest Is Politics has a Leading interview with Jeremy Hunt. It's a good listen. He's so calm and measured. If only he was still in the treasury.

I think I may have PTSD from MN in the run up to the election. It was awful.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I snapped and finally bought a robot vacuum this weekend. I cannot take anymore of the golden gate bridge that is my kitchen floor.

I had to come up with a name to programme it to work with Alexa.

He's robotic, repetitious and sucks the life out of everything. Guess what I named him 😂

"Alexa start Keir" 🤣🤣

I'm not actually disappointed with Starmer. He is exactly how I though he would be. I despised him viscerally even before he became Labour leader. The man repulses me, always has. If he was in a lift, I'd instinctively take the stairs.

@Hollyohara Thank you for your kind words. This thread keeps me sane 😁.

@twistyizzy I'm trying not to go down that particularly rabbit hole. It's too frightening to consider that all this may actually be deliberate. I'm sticking to Hanlon's razor.....for now.

That is exactly how i feel about Stärmer!
