Labour isn't working - Thread 6

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Some people on another thread that will not be mentioned here are suggesting it’s OK for Rayner to have her £800 pad in Hove because all the MPs have second or third homes, therefore why shouldn’t Raynor. The double standards seem to have escaped them.

It's a simple misunderstanding of her brief as Housing Secretary, clearly! She thinks it means she needs to buy them all thereby assisting greatly with the housing crisis.

As for SKS and his bus fare lies, it doesn't surprise me. He wouldn't know the truth if it came and slapped him round the chops. Disappointing for a former QC.

Starmer has strong form for playing fast and loose with facts. Just look at the Chagos bill and what he announced.

TBH I don’t expect politicians of any stripe to be especially truthful. But Starmer does stand out in that way.

I’m convinced it all comes from his personal ambition and towering self-regard, which even for a senior politician is gobsmacking. That’s also why he took freebies. I never believed a word of the Lord Ali penthouse explanation.

The only upside is that he’s storing up massive scorn and ridicule for when he has to break major manifesto pledges. Another politician could plead that facts have changed or the unexpected’s come about. But Starmer’s run out of road for goodwill and the benefit of the doubt.

Edited

Well said, agree. It's also particularly galling coming from a PM who ran on a ticket of integrity and bringing trust back to politics.

Of course they are 🙄 if it was a Tory they would be "disgusted". However because it's Labour MP they will tie themselves in knots to defend it.

And instantly proved that to be a load of bollocks!

I thought he'd make a decent leader when they were having their leadership contest (the choices were pretty awful though, IMO). I'm seriously disappointed how dire he has turned out to be. (I knew the Party as a whole wouldn't be great, due to the quality of the MPs before the election, but I'd hoped for more from Starmer himself.)

For some unknown reason, he’s a very average over- promoted bog standard average legal bod.

Other politicians who have law degrees and careers, are clearly bright as buttons. Clinton’s , Blair’s , Obama’s; loads of them. The Starmers (his wife was a bog standard solicitor too until she took some non job in the NHS to look all state supportery), I’m just Not sure where they came from really.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/08/2025 12:27

I mean, I'm also a bog standard solicitor! 😬 I don't pretend I'm not though, and my corporate clients seem to like me / the work I do!

There are many stale, technically-poor, white middle aged men who have been promoted beyond their skill level in the industry though. So the fact that SKS is also one of those isn't really a surprise!

(And becoming a Q/KC just means you're willing to stump up the cash to apply for it, not that you're the greatest barrister going.)

Yes yes and yes . It’s a pity we have one as our PM!!

twistyizzy · 24/08/2025 12:34

More and more I feel that this is all being done on purpose. They can't all be this stupid surely?
Is what we are seeing the Fabian ideology playing out? They purposely want to crash the economy etc? Burn it all down and re-build in Fabian image?
Because I am losing capacity to describe any of this in any other way.

Hollyohara · 24/08/2025 12:36

Ps. @TheNuthatch and others on this thread.. thank you 🙏. A beacon in the Labour quagmire.

I’ve said it before.
Wilful ignorance.
Cognitive dissonance.
Or stupidity.
Bit of all 3.
Etc.

It’s insidious and entirely their plan. None of this is incompetence. What scares me is how few recognise it for what it is and the scale of the damage! It’s a complete WEF/Fabian agenda. Starmer obviously has some lucrative position lined up off the back of it for afterwards.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/08/2025 12:40

I don't know, potentially. More than 50% of the population is below average intelligence, so the chances of the MPs of each party not containing a few intellectually-challenged people are low! Just a pity they're in the Cabinet.

(Plus a whole load of them believe that humans can change sex, so have demonstrated idiocy many a time previously!)

The Party isn't known generally for its fiscal ability. Labour wasn't the right choice for where the country was financially at the time of the election.

TheNuthatch · 24/08/2025 13:41

I'm not actually disappointed with Starmer. He is exactly how I though he would be. I despised him viscerally even before he became Labour leader. The man repulses me, always has. If he was in a lift, I'd instinctively take the stairs.

@Hollyohara Thank you for your kind words. This thread keeps me sane 😁.

@twistyizzy I'm trying not to go down that particularly rabbit hole. It's too frightening to consider that all this may actually be deliberate. I'm sticking to Hanlon's razor.....for now.

You can only read the speech and LoL.....they really thought they were going to save the world and all they've succeeded in doing is crash it!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 24/08/2025 15:29

I don’t think it’s deliberate, I really believe it’s ineptitude and sixth form politics .

SKS and co. absolutely loved being in opposition because they could spout their immature rhetoric without a single consequence. Once they’d won the election and the reality of what this means for them, I have no doubt SKS sat down and had more than a moment of “Oh shit! What do I do now?” He is out of his depth, his cabinet is out of its depth and I bet they can’t wait to call the next election.

Everything they do may be done with “the best intentions” but there isn’t the capacity within their brains to consider the possible (and invariably) negative consequences of their actions.

They need proper grown up advisors who can see past the ideological nonsense.

Pity

I think Sunak was very intelligent and trying to hold the country together. He was harassed at every turn and not given much of a chance. With a young family to consider, it’s no wonder he threw in the towel.

Turns out that navigating the economy is much harder than Labour thought. It was always so juvenile to pretend that there were limitless resources, and it would be the land of milk and honey, were it not for the mean old Tories keeping it all for themselves and their friends.

In fact, mismanagement and stubborn fantastical thinking can create less for everyone. Now we are stuck with an ever shrinking economy. Every time the Labour government tries to redistribute more to their clients, the economy shrinks further. Will they never learn? Certainly, the clients have an interest in not learning.

My husband and I are in our mid-fifties. It’s very scary. If they appropriate everything we have, we will not have enough time left to earn it all back again.

Indeed. He told us. Everything he said would happen has happened. Everything he said Labour would do, they’ve done / are doing.

I had forgotten half of that. I am struck by how desperate the moderator is to stop him saying any of this.
