Labour isn't working - Thread 6

TheNuthatch · 22/08/2025 15:23

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

So IMF impose strict conditions what happens to the government they become obsolete and impotent? The back benchers can’t revolt ?

Yes the govt. have to follow whatever conditions the IMF sets out so they become impotent. It’s all a bit humiliating.

Parsley4321 · 27/08/2025 23:21

@Julen7 humiliating you say hmmmm well I don’t wish ill on anyone apart from the front bench and sad to say I would love to see their downfall publicly

DP wants to go and work for Lego in Denmark- he’s qualified. Such a tempting idea but then my friends and family are here.

I could teach in an international school as well - we are fairly portable.
I can see there will be a brain drain as people choose to leave rather than be taxed to high heaven without seeing any improvements to the infrastructure. All the while this group of corrupt, morally deficient clowns run our country into the ground.

Sorry for the rant. Despair is taking over this evening. 😔

<<hugs>> Sorry you're feeling like this.

It's a difficult decision to make. All I can say is that when our son first moved abroad, it felt like he was going to be a million miles away. The reality is that flights are cheap and regular. I can get there, or he can get here in a few hours. I'm so glad he left, another of my dc plans to do the same.
My DH also has itchy feet. He's quite nomadic. We moved around a lot (including abroad) before we had kids, but decided to raise them here. If our business fails, I know he will want to leave again.

Yes, spot on.
I've been on MN for about 20 years on and off. There have been periods where I've deleted my account and had a long break, Brexit was one of them!
The flag threads are definitely one to avoid, enough froth for a foam party.
Welcome to the thread 😁

The flag threads are batshit MN at its finest!

Parsley4321 · 27/08/2025 23:28

@Julen7 thst is what I wanted to say but you beat me to it 🤩

I haven’t read any flag threads. Do they go like this, over and over?:

  • I want to fly an English flag and you can’t stop me! I fly the English flag because I’m proud of my country and why shouldn’t I be?
  • well if you fly an English flag you’re a racist bigoted c*nt fascist!

How’s my summary?

@Hollyohara That's pretty accurate yes 😂.

I'm still to recover from the Brexit days. I made the mistake of hoping for informative views from both sides.

The Brexit threads were grim. Somehow a group of posters managed to wrest control very effectively, and see off with unpleasant bullying anyone who offered an alternative view. Presumably the threads are still going but I haven’t read them for years.

Sunak was ridiculed and mocked by Labour throughout yet he was 100% correct.
He was the right PM at the wrong time sadly.

It’s a real shame that Sunak came in after Johnson and Truss.

Arrearing50 · 28/08/2025 07:29

It’s also a shame Truss didn’t take a bit longer to try and achieve the same thing with market buy in. Good ideas, poor implementation.

Lutonsgirl · 28/08/2025 07:42

This thread is honestly one if the few havens of sanity I have here. The flag threads are depressing and although I wasnt on here for brexit, I can imagine exactly what they were like..even who dominated them.

I do feel though that, to coin a phrase, "change" is coming...just not in the way Starmer thinks (assuming he does think).

The threads and the posters! Just they are now bullying anyone who criticises Labour

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 28/08/2025 07:56

Michael Simmons has written a good piece on the Spectator about the inevitable economic calamity we’re heading for.

I’m sure we’ll see posts by left-wingers on MN about how there’s no such thing as national debt or bankruptcy (strictly, I suppose administration). Absolute nonsense.

Labour will hasten the crash, but Reform would lead us into it too. And the Tories have played their part. I just hope that the Tories can survive until pressing realignment of tax, spend and borrowing can’t be ignored any longer.

Anyone else feeling really fucking depressed? It’s like the country is about to implode with these clowns and their policies.

I can’t believe we have 4 more years with them in charge; they’ve done so much damage in 1, what else can they throw at us?

Starting to think about emigrating. Both DP and I have skills wanted by the rest of the world - maybe we should get the applications made?

Yes, I'm feeling down about it too. I've told my children (in their early 20s) that they have my blessing if they want to leave the country. Its very sad that I said that; I would love to feel that there's a future for them here.

@twistyizzy showibg your true colours 😜 I hope they’re multi coloured 🤣🤣🤣

Ah we've got to the bottom of what my "true colours" are: I hate Labour and said I would vote Reform to get rid of them.....

I mean, no shit Sherlock 🤣 That poster is about 12 months behind! So now my true colours are laid bare I feel.......disappointed .

Lutonsgirl · 28/08/2025 08:01

My Dd is just about to start A levels. I have advised that when looking at University to think about degrees that would enable her to work abroad, should that become necessary ..agree its sad to think like that

Yes we are saying that to DD although she's only Yr 9. Look for degrees with a placement year abroad/overseas universities
I want her to get the hell out of dodge

Parsley4321 · 28/08/2025 08:25

My son too my lovely dear chap I’m pushing him out of this fucking shit hole. Of course as my friends agree no one is really telling our kids how bad it is just come on off you go and see the world maybe try a new life away from here. I travel for work and stay away a lot doing shows and festivals without exception every single time every person I interact with talks about how awful life is and what is going on. There is no bloody plan !

Julen7 · 28/08/2025 08:41

I feel the same about mine but don’t you think things will be different when we have a change of govt? Or has the can been kicked too far down the road?
