Labour isn't working - Thread 6

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yeah, it hit a peak prior to the general election when, in an effort to paint Labour as entirely good they painted the Conservatives as entirely bad.

I honestly feel so miserable today. I feel like the 'racist' card is being thrown out wildly again to anyone who is worried about immigration and the impact is has on our lives and prosperity. I really feel the hard left bave been such useful idiots for the governments.
I'm sick of death of working full time just to pay extortionate housing bills, council tax and now hear that energy bills are going up yet again.
I just wish there was some hope.

There seems to be a willful blindness to the obvious truth that the effects of uncontrolled migration are not evenly absorbed across the land and across the income bands. And then follows the attempt to build a virtue out of that blindness.

This last ten years have been a complete disaster in that regard. We have created the illusion of growth by increasing GDP artificially by encouraging this population surge. But the GDP per capita is pitiful and this country's resources are stretched beyond capacity.

It's not xenophobic to wonder what the fucking plan is and who will benefit from it.

Well France have huge debt (even worse than ours!) and the PM, Bayrou, has drawn up austerity measures but of course no one likes them. To try and get them passed Bayrou is going to try for a vote of confidence early Sept. which he will most likely lose. If he does lose it would make things difficult for Macron as he would be dragged back into urgently trying to sort out France’s domestic issues - like Starmer he really prefers poncing around on the international stage to dealing with dull old stuff at home, even if it is bankruptcy.

Thank you. That has completely passed me by. Love your description of Macron 'poncing' 😂

Yes.

‘More than half (65%) of the increase in the UK population between 2004 and 2023 was due to the direct contribution of net migration.

Since 2020, almost all of the growth in the population has come from net migration.

Official figures projected that the UK’s population would grow from 68 million in 2022 to 77 million in 2046. Net migration accounted for 104% of this growth. Net migration has accounted for 98% of population growth since 2020.’

If anybody thinks this isn’t a problem, I’d suggest they’ve got a comprehension problem.

https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/the-impact-of-migration-on-uk-population-growth/

The growing wealth inequality gap is also obviously a huge issue. The uber rich are getting even richer. The poor poorer. Those on even above average wages have no chance of buying a house unless they have family help.

The immigration figures make it all worse for Day to day living. Doctors / schools / ambulances, a&e etc etc etc.

Then we have the shocking benefit bill. 👀

Labour of course are the worst possible government we could have ‘in charge’ 🤢.

Hope springs eternal and we just need to make sure that we never have them again. Vote tactically for anyone who’ll ensure Labour get booted out. Hang tight.

The Impact of Migration on UK Population Growth - Migration Observatory

Based on official population estimates and population projections, this briefing examines the impact of migration on recent and future UK population growth.

Macron and Starmer. Happy together I guess.

I'm mostly all for a tactical vote. But I can't bring myself to vote Reform (our constituency is predicted to swing to Reform, however). I just don't think their fiscal policies are up to much. I would like our useless Labour MP to FTFO though!

It's a long time until the next GE. Hopefully the Tories will have sorted their shit out by then!

Hollyohara · 27/08/2025 16:43

Agreed. Why are the Tory’s not sorting out their shit now..?!

I think that they've been waiting to see if Reform will implode and if they can just sling shot themselves off Labour's incompetence alone. It would be an easy route to back to governance but that isn't playing out.

And I wonder if was obvious that the party needed to shift right to win back the favour of the electorate but it would be hard to make that case to some of their MPs and members straight out of the gate?

I think we'll see a more active Tory party soon. Jenrick and Philps seem to be picking up the reins.

Good analysis. I 100% think Jenrick is biding his time whilst garnering positive media reports of himself. And waving flags 🤣

I would like to vote Tory and am not convinced by Farage. Unfortunately they could come out with the best policies every and have great people but the problem is they lied once too often (especially about immigration) so people will never trust them again - I truly think they are finished.

I think I may have PTSD from MN in the run up to the election. It was awful.

I'm still to recover from the Brexit days. I made the mistake of hoping for informative views from both sides. Ha!

And yet it seems there are plenty of people who don't realise that 'If you don't think like I do you're a racist, fascist bigot' isn't a great way to bring people round to your point of view. See also the multiple flag threads.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 27/08/2025 22:37

Anyone else feeling really fucking depressed? It’s like the country is about to implode with these clowns and their policies.

I can’t believe we have 4 more years with them in charge; they’ve done so much damage in 1, what else can they throw at us?

Starting to think about emigrating. Both DP and I have skills wanted by the rest of the world - maybe we should get the applications made?

Parsley4321 · 27/08/2025 22:48

@Wishihadanalgorithm i feel depressed about this mess I can’t believe there are so many incompetents promoted way above their ability in government and life

Yes I have aging parents so won't be emigrating soon, but I also think this is MY country, why should I be driven out by the incompetence of the governments of the past 20 years? I think good people should stay here if they can., feel like they want us to leave.

In simple terms, its where a country has to borrow a huge sum from IMF reserves to stop the currency/economy collapsing. The IMF demands conditions in return for the loan which include things like huge cuts to welfare, changes to corporation tax and severe fiscal discipline.

It is tough at the moment. Autumn is coming too 😬.
If you have the opportunity to look overseas, I think it's worth a shot. Those I know who have gone abroad are all happy and thriving, including my ds.

Yes, spot on.
I've been on MN for about 20 years on and off. There have been periods where I've deleted my account and had a long break, Brexit was one of them!
The flag threads are definitely one to avoid, enough froth for a foam party.

DP wants to go and work for Lego in Denmark- he’s qualified. Such a tempting idea but then my friends and family are here.

I could teach in an international school as well - we are fairly portable.
I can see there will be a brain drain as people choose to leave rather than be taxed to high heaven without seeing any improvements to the infrastructure. All the while this group of corrupt, morally deficient clowns run our country into the ground.

Sorry for the rant. Despair is taking over this evening. 😔

Parsley4321 · 27/08/2025 23:05

So IMF impose strict conditions what happens to the government they become obsolete and impotent? The back benchers can’t revolt ?
