Things that really should have been invented by now

TutTutTutSigh · 14/07/2025 18:42

I'm sick of seeing ads for a nice dress on my feed, clicking 'shop now' only to see it's petite (I'm not), or maternity (no again) 😆. I need an ad blocker that only shows me clothes in my size. Is this too much to ask the fashion bots for??

What else needs to be invented?

<secretly hoping this exists and some clever person can tell me>

A booth that you climb in and it painlessly shrinks away your fat cells and tightens skin, a dress size Per session.

Actual virtual reality worlds (like in Star Trek) where you can walk around touching and interacting with everything.

Ah ha, the holodeck Grin Would be fab!

NameChangedOfc · 14/07/2025 22:32

Another way to vaccinate babies that isn't a torture.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 14/07/2025 22:35

ALL of these...

@claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · Today 18:51

Sellotape that doesn’t lose its end

@TheeNotoriousPIG · Today 20:06

Corned beef tins that are easy to open! (This always gets moaned about whenever corned beef is mentioned). Also, more pockets (that are functional, rather than stylish) in women's clothing!

@Iamtarticus

None invasive screening for cervical cancer

@TomatoSandwiches · Today 20:08

3 day working week

@Treesarenotforeating · Today 20:11

An electric blanket that cools instead of heats, would be amazing in this heat with menopausal flushes added

@BlueRidgeMountain · Today 20:12

tabs on food packaging that actually open the bloody food. They either tear off meaning you have to stab at the packet with a knife

SPF that you take as a tablet and it lasts all day.

Genius.

I'd like a 5 fruit and veg pill.

@godmum56 i have seen similar in films/TV.

Guess they still break the skin though. I'm thinking more one that penetrates into the system not by breaking the skin!

no, I can absolutely confirm that it didn't break the skin and was painless. The vaccine was blown through the skin using a high pressure jet of air.....like a really really high pressure airbrush. As an aside, I used to travel on merchant ships with my husband. At sea (Gulf to UK) the crew would chip off the rust, sand down and repaint the parts of the ship that needed it. The would use industrial paint sprayers for the large areas. They wore PPE for this including heavy gloves. one idiot decided to do the job without the gloves and sprayed his hand at point blank range, the nozzle actually touching his skin. The power of the air compressor shot the paint through his skin and into the tissue of his hand where it started to kill off the flesh of his hand. Luckily we were near Capetown and he was flown ashore to have the hand treated. I never heard the end of the story.

Extra long tops in plus size for those of us with long torsos AND big boobs. Sick of wearing dresses as tops. (Yes I’ve tried Long Tall Sally)

Ooh yes please!

Being able to search for an email in Outlook.

Having the option to listen to all books on Audible read by a British person. Sorry American friends, I need to listen to books at warp speed and American accents don’t speed up as well. Missed out on so many good books by American authors 🥲

can you not do that? I have got a mac with Mail which is Macs email app and you can search by sender, subject or just do a word search.

This exists

My mum used to vaccuum our cat. he would come and lie down in front of the hoover (cylinder not upright) and if she tried to move away, he would follow her and lie down again...mind you this was some 60 years ago and I think that vacs were much less powerful....Don't try this at home.

A quick and effective cure for toenail fungus. A handheld scanner like in Star Trek that a doctor waves over your body and it can diagnose all your medical problems.

wehat cured mine after all else had failed was filing down the thickness if the nail repeatedly. It too about 3 treatments as the nail grew. No antifungal, no nothing and nail is now normal.

Shenmen · 14/07/2025 22:57

I want someone for years to invent my idea. Full video of yourself all angles. With measurements exactly as you are. Say what you want to buy (skirt and top for work) and it gives syou videos of you wearing the several outfits as it would look on.

ChompandaGrazia · 14/07/2025 22:59

Little tiny bags sewn into gaps in the seams of clothes. We could call them pockets.

BestIntentioned · 14/07/2025 23:00

A motorized shopping trolley, so that when you get to a hill you just press a button and up it goes.
It would look really cool and everyone would use them, the way they do in say, New York so that I don’t feel self-conscious.

BestIntentioned · 14/07/2025 23:02

@godmum@BrandyandGingermy Sebo hoover on minimum is really gentle ..

apparently they are buggers to steer.

CrustyBread1977 · 14/07/2025 23:10

Front doors that open automatically with a retina scan. I’ve always got five things in my hands so using keys is a pita.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/07/2025 23:23

A pill that you could take with food that would prevent absorption of the calories in just that particular food. So you could eat a lovely nutritious dinner and then take a tablet and eat a cream cake for pudding and only the cake wouldn't 'stick'.

Also, a rain-sensitive umbrella cover for rotary washing lines, so you could leave your washing out all day knowing that, at the touch of a raindrop, the washing-brolly would shoot up and cover your washing, retracting again after a pre-programmed period of dryness.

StarlightLady · 15/07/2025 06:45

Quiet vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers.

Liquid/tablet form of food/nutrition that people would actually enjoy and even crave.

I know there is Ensure liquid feeds etc that are nutritionally balanced, but how much more convenient would it be if we didn't have emotional attachment to cooking/dining out.

It would certainly save having to think what to cook for dinner and then having to shop for it.

Not have to kill animals and breed purely for food. Yes there would be much wider implications but if we were satisfied and just to be satiated by something simple that would be nutritious and produce everything we needed, and also enjoyed!

i assume you’re being sarcastic?!

A microwave that can take metal/tin in it.

They already can, as long as it isn’t a fork, tin foil etc, I always put a spoon in my porridge rather than awkwardly holding a porridgy spoon for two minutes.
