Things that really should have been invented by now

I'm sick of seeing ads for a nice dress on my feed, clicking 'shop now' only to see it's petite (I'm not), or maternity (no again) 😆. I need an ad blocker that only shows me clothes in my size. Is this too much to ask the fashion bots for??

What else needs to be invented?

<secretly hoping this exists and some clever person can tell me>

A lego sorting machine. Like a big hoover that sucks up the huge pile of pieces from mixed sets and neatly sorts them by shape and colour into little boxes for easier rebuilding.

I’ve often thought why house keys can’t be like car keys where you can push a button on a fob rather than manually insert the key.

Car keys can be cloned though. I wouldn’t like to think of that happening to my house!

packaging which you can actually undo without destroying it or accidentally shredding the ham or whatever.
i have only one functional arm( CP) and it hasn’t got worse so it must be packaging
Ridiculous example New pair of Kitchen Scissors.., needed scissors to open the plastic packaging FFS

A shazam app for the clothes people are wearing

Yes, this!

Rightly or wrongly, if someone is wearing something l like, I’m happy to ask her where she bought it.

StarlightLady · 16/07/2025 05:16

Tights and stockings that really do not ladder or run.

Yeah, I do that too sometimes, but the idea of an app seems easier 😀

Every time I do this I think they are going to say it is a designer outfit but every single time it turns out that they are wearing Primark. I don’t know what that says about my taste.

@StarlightLady I just wouldn’t go up to a stranger in the street. If I was close quarters with someone, say behind them in the queue yes, but I wouldn’t hunt someone down. Plus, as with music Shazam I would mainly use it for stuff on TV. I can’t reach into the TV and ask a character where she got her blouse

oh yes, there are programs i watch and think "I want her clothes" My current envy porn is the Quiz Lady, before that Madame Blanc and way before that. Pam Ferrars in Rosemary and Thyme. There used to be a website called "As seen on TV" for precisely this but it wasn't great and I can't find it now. oh and the blue bedding in Mama Mia the movie.

A single notification/update app for everything so that ten emails are not generated every time you order something online.

Where is my parcel? Just check the app.

@godmum56 most of the wardrobe on the series The Split was really classy

A medical system that treats the cause rather than the symptoms would be good.

Magicmushroomsauce · 16/07/2025 12:22

Something which cools baby’s/kids food down quickly. A bit like a nuby rapid cool but for kids food/plates

katmunchkin · 16/07/2025 12:33

A road surface with inbuilt underfloor heating and solar panels, to prevent it icing over but also to generate electricity from the cars travelling over it

put a frozen gel block under the plate? not so easy when out but easy at home. If you would want it often and have more than one plate, you could interleave the flexible blocks with plates so that the freeze with a plate shaped space in?

Quiet vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers.

The teenaged me would have LOVED this! My mother thought nothing of vacuuming at 8.00am on a Saturday morning. I (jokingly, once I'd woken up properly) used to want to kill her for it😆

Oh, and one for work... a weighted silage sheet which can be rolled back like a swimming pool cover. It would save me standing (and sneezing) in a dusty loft and throwing car tyres over a sheet to weight it down (to help the grass to ferment and keep for feeding livestock in the winter) for hours every summer! Not to mention having to throw the tyres back and roll the sheet back by hand to access said silage when it's needed...

DoubleShotEspresso · 17/07/2025 14:53

A machine that your head fits in to wash, condition & detangle your (nightmare curly frizz prome hair) that then instantly blow dries it afterwards.

A robot that puts washing away neatly

An email tool for school teachers, sendcos and other professionals so they remember your name from the eleventy billion emails you have sent them, and stop calling you Mum in meetings .

Edited

Someone’s going to nick this idea and become a billionaire.

PopeJoan2 · 17/07/2025 20:46

A detoxifier for toxic masculinity.

it would probably be a bit like that brainwashing machine in a Clockwork Orange and leave all the “treated” men walking around like zombies. Perhaps that would be a small price to pay for female safety

CrackOfYawn · 15/07/2025 08:41

Recall Eyeballs, so you could rewind them like Ring doorbell footage and know where you left your keys, or if the straighteners are off. You could also rewatch favourite moments… I suppose that could all get a bit Black Mirror very quickly though 😂

It would be your brain though surely. I bet one day they will be able to download memories we thought were lost forever. It would be great to see your parents lovingly looking over you while you were in your cot. Or seeing all your toddler mates from nursery

Copiousamountsofpulses · 17/07/2025 20:51

Haven't RTFT but a button on the keyboard to turn the accidental sentences typed in capitals back to little letters!

PopeJoan2 · 17/07/2025 20:52

An orgasmatron like in the film Barbarella.
