Eating animals

To me killing animals and keeping them the way we do should be illegal. And them queuing up to be killed in an abbatoir and scream on the way in. It's barbaric and medieval in my opinion. Eat something else!

You are perfectly entitled to your view.

However, so am I. I buy free range chicken and pork from a local butcher. Free range eggs from a neighbour. I buy lamb, twice a year, direct from the farm - I know the people who raise it and where/when it is slaughtered.

I live rurally and cook from scratch. Nothing is wasted. We don't eat out or have takeaways. The only processed meat we eat is the pepperoni on ds' Friday pizza and rarely a small piece of chorizo.

I live with as small a carbon footprint as I can, but I choose to eat meat. Not huge amounts, not cheap imports. locally grown, well kept.

But That is my choice.

Thanks I am and so are you
the question popped up quickly and was first thing I could think if
it upsets me no end that animals are treated this way.
I love Ricky Gervais' saying. If you like seeing animals suffer, then you're a bit of a c**t!
sums it up for me really
The people that say just off for a burger etc are just pathetic. It doesn't bother me. It's so predictable!

Absolutely OP but I should save your breath - it falls on deaf ears.

Haha do better. My 12 year old could give a more reasoned argument than that @Bearsaloud

Cheeseburgers taste so nice. Ditto bacon. The lure of these took me away from being veggie a LONG time ago.

12 year old!
i typed it quickly as first thing that came in to me head when I saw the question. I don't have all day to state a huge argument for your benefit .

Then you must be what Ricky Gervais said about people that enjoy animals suffering

Weirdwalk · 10/07/2025 19:27

I totally agree with you OP. It’s unnecessary and selfish and people who do it have a hole in their soul.

Absolutely OP but I should save your breath - it falls on deaf ears.

In an ideal world this is what I would like to be illegal

Never going to happen is it but it doesn't stop me being upset about it.

Luckily there's people like Joaquin Phoenix and Ricky Gervais advocating for animals - they must be kind, empathetic, intelligent humans who luckily have evolved.

You'd hate us OP, we produce and eat our own meat (like billions of evil humans). We swap beef for lamb with our friends and vice versa so we've both always got plenty. Plus we have our own geese for Christmas. God I'm hungry now.... Raids fridge for dead animals ..

WhyDoiGiveValuableTime · 10/07/2025 19:53

The meat industry is worse than anything you can imagine. Slaughter houses are not humane. Death is not quick. Chickens are suspended upside down and plunged in to electrified boiling water. 10 thousend every hour. Nobody would be ok sending their dog or cat to the rainbow bridge this way.

Kick shit off! Omg are you an adult: it's my opinion I think killing animals inhumanely should be illegal. This was a question that popped up and the first thing I could think of. I had 2 mins to quickly type something while waiting for someone.
Not trying to tell anyone what to eat. Obvs 'the eat something else!' comment riled you. - I don't want to control what other people eat. Just thinking slitting animals' throats is barbaric. The end !

If something's important to you then the responsibility is on you to communicate properly.

I am indeed an adult. Old enough to recognise a post for what it actually is.

If youre not telling people what to do then dont post telling people what to do. Its not difficult.

People dont decide to make changes in their lives because some random on the Internet starts insulting them.

So really you need to choose what your aim is here. Get your rage off your chest about other people's choices or have a debate about an issue that's important to you

Do you want to tell people off or try to convince them through respectful discussion, facts and intelligent posts that there's a different way to eat that has many benefits?

XenoBitch · 10/07/2025 20:06

I think name calling and emotive language does not get people onto your side.
I can't stand any sort of preaching. The vegans I know do not preach.

I eat meat because I like it. I like the taste and texture. No alternatives have come close.

I think its good to rear your own when possibke. You know theyre treated very well.

My family farm has pigs, sheep, chickens and bee hives. My husband's been sending me WhatsApp videos of the pigs. One of the sows had a litter a couple of weeks ago. My husband has banned me from naming the piglets. Partly because he doesn't want me to get attached and partly because I named our sows Baronness von Scheiwnbacon, Lady Saddleback and The Dutchess of Pork and our boar Pigalo and its been widely agreed Im not allowed to make any more decisions .

Parky04 · 10/07/2025 20:36

As only 5% of the population are not meat eaters, you are being ridiculous!

inagine a human having their babies ripped off them and it being the 'norm'

But sometimes it's even worse to treat them well and then end their 'good life' they're having 🤷🏼‍♀️
personallly I don't care how their death is, I just find it all upsetting.
we would be horrified if was dogs and cats - they are all creatures that feel pain and suffering and fear

Sorry but humans have eaten animals since the beginning of times. I love a good steak and no I won’t stop, same for my family. You do you, I can’t stand sanctimoniuous people. What’s the need to start a thread on this? You’re holier than thou good for you but we don’t care

Animals live in the moment. Animals are also fucking brutal themselves.

This is why when we have old and ailing pets, it is said to have them put to sleep on a good day. Better a week too early than a day too late.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 10/07/2025 20:50

animals just dont think like that. they really don't look back through their life or plan for the future. they live in the here and now and if they're well treated, they're happy. They love getting their ear scritches and their veggie treats and they love to yell at you if they think their friend got a bigger treat than they did :D

And when their time comes, they will not suffer. They'll have a far more merciful death than many humans get.

It took my dad 3 days to die after a brain exploding stroke.
It took my grandad 2 weeks to die from the point no amount of morphine took the pain away to when he finally went.
It took years for my grandma to die after the alzheimers robbed her of everything and she was doubly incontinent, unable to feed herself and getting repeated pneumonia from aspirating food and water.

A good life followed by a swift death is not the worst thing to happen.

I don’t eat meat and I agree with you tbh but I’m not sure what the point of the thread is. This is not going to be the thing that changes someone’s mind!

(Edited because I missed out the word meat before and it is most certainly not true that I don’t eat 😂😂)

Edited

You're right! There's no point at all
i gave that up years ago 😆
i saw the question pop up and had 2 spare minutes so i thought that was first thing that came into my head that I would make illegal!
Just a pipe dream I know but be nice

My grandad used to raise his own chickens for "xmas dinners". All were loved and looked after. He would have one in his lap, and would snap their neck. Instant and they felt safe beforehand.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 10/07/2025 20:55

if you think that animals have plans for the future and look back at their lives then there's absolutely no point anyone engaging with you in good faith.

How do you explain animals that have been mistreated and end up in rescue centres, some so traumatised they can barely function. Surely if they think of the 'here and now' only they would not be traumatised by their past? 🤷🏼‍♀️
