Glastonbury-who’s left to do the Legends slot?

Who is left, that is a legend, has enough absolute bangers to sing along to, doesn’t take themselves too seriously, is maybe a little camp(in the glam, fun sense)and is still alive (and is capable of singing still)? All the ones I can think of have either done it, are dead or are more headliner fodder. The only ones I can think of are Blondie and Neil Diamond?
And given that most legends are now ex legends, who would be your dream Legend?

Has anyone mentioned Eric Clapton? He is 80 like some of the others mentioned.

Edited

That's not his audience. Billy Joel currently ill but can headline big places. Possibly Stevie Wonder or Stevie Nicks (80). None of these are improving with age. Need you get people or just don't bother

Lenny Kravitz
Lauren Hill
Stevie Wonder
Bruce Springsteen
Dolly Parton
Grace Jones
Red Hit Chilli Peppers
Erasure

Dolly has already done it. That is the one I would have loved to see.

@Chumpfriend - Simply Red were great. Saw them fairly recently.

I always think the legend spot is someone not currently touring, kind of brought out of retirement rather than bands like the Human League that are currently doing ‘b’ list towns/venues anyway.

Pedallleur · 05/07/2025 20:44

Kravitz is a good call. Just been in Europe. Grace Jones? Poss too old and only a couple hits. Springsteen is a headliner and Laren Hill would turn up on Monday. Erasure have a lot of dance hits so that might be good.

ELO.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 05/07/2025 21:12

ELO did it in 2016.

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2025 21:14

ahh! I missed the ELO set then !

Bonnie Tyler - she still sounds amazing.

Mike & the Mechanics - I'd love a full Genesis reunion but I gather Phil Collins' health isn't up to it.

Belinda Carlisle or Nik Kershaw for my own personal preference.

I saw Bonnie Tyler last year and thought she seemed a bit befuddled when she was talking (rambling) between songs, I felt a bit sorry for her.

RedRiverShore5 · 05/07/2025 21:46

It needs to be someone who is quite lively and sings well known songs, and is over about 65-70, so

Pet Shop Boys
Tom Jones
Barry Manilow

Why would Glastonbury not be Clapton's audience? Sorry, I don't understand the rest of this post.

TeflonMom · 05/07/2025 23:52

I would be delighted to see any of these:

Dire Straights
Dolly Parton
The Waterboys
Lionel Richie/ the Commodores
Paul Simon
Steely Dan
Hall &Oates

I really love Eric Clapton, but I think he would have a similar audience to Neil Young who didn't seem that popular with a lot of the audience, sadly. I loved the Neil Young set and watched it on the telly but the audience was small. The audience went off to see Charlie somebody or the Scissor Sisters.

EleanorReally · 06/07/2025 06:49

surely Eric Clapton is far more popular than Neil Young

Dire Straits. Finished years ago
Dolly has played there
Waterboys are a club act not a legend
Lionel Richie has played it
Paul Simon has retired
Steely Dan is only Donald Fagen and not a legend act. Too niche
Hall and Oates split some time ago and are legally estranged

Similar but not suitable for the Glastonbury slot. The RAH is his place.

That’s very rude. Pink sells out stadiums when she tours so clearly plenty of people think she is good.

It isn’t ’rude’ at all, it’s an opinion on a singer, I wouldn’t worry Pink won’t be reading MN. She’s pop fluff whose only real discernible talent is being able to hold a few notes while she dangles about on a trapeze. There are countless shite pop groups, bands and ‘artists’ who sell well in stadiums and for every one of them there will be a 100 epically talented musicians still busking on a working class high street because they haven’t had the fortune to be discovered.

EleanorReally · 06/07/2025 16:26

pink floyd

EleanorReally · 06/07/2025 16:26

proclaimers

fiftyval · 06/07/2025 16:29

Squeeze

BestIsWest · 06/07/2025 16:30

Squeeze or Elvis Costello.

EleanorReally · 06/07/2025 16:32

Joan Armatrading

CompetePrettyWell · 07/07/2025 17:30

Yes, @EleanorReally - The Proclaimers would be great, real crowd pleaser.

Carole King would also be a good one.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/07/2025 17:33

Joe Dolce?

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2025 17:49

Rick Astley was good last year.
Love ‘the smiths ‘ to get back together, I mean , Oasis have patched it up! Or Blur , although they haven’t actually disbanded as far as I know and have done it before too.
