Glastonbury-who’s left to do the Legends slot?

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 02/07/2025 21:51

Who is left, that is a legend, has enough absolute bangers to sing along to, doesn’t take themselves too seriously, is maybe a little camp(in the glam, fun sense)and is still alive (and is capable of singing still)? All the ones I can think of have either done it, are dead or are more headliner fodder. The only ones I can think of are Blondie and Neil Diamond?
And given that most legends are now ex legends, who would be your dream Legend?

I think someone said they do heavy metal when Prodigy’s set teetered the other night.,

Frankie Valli would be amazing in the legends slot
Possibly Dave Gilmour or Roger Waters
Tom Jones

Frankie Valli would be incredible.

OliveHenry · 03/07/2025 00:20

Adam Ant! 🥰

ScurryHurry · 03/07/2025 00:21

Madness
Eurythmics
Paul Simon
Sting
Erasure

redcord · 03/07/2025 00:23

Would Bjork tip over into 'Legend' or is she still a headliner?

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/07/2025 00:26

Cher or Dolly.
Depeche Mode would be MainStage.

Duran Duran would be awful - Simon Le Bon can no longer sing well! Sorry to his fans on here.

Good call about Billy Ocean - saw him at Rewind (and met him, lovely man) and he was great.
B52s

Jeff Lynne and either ELO or whoever can play the Travelling Wilbury songs with him

A Jeff Lynne based set would be amazing!

Elliania · 03/07/2025 00:33

Bonnie Tyler - she still sounds amazing.

Mike & the Mechanics - I'd love a full Genesis reunion but I gather Phil Collins' health isn't up to it.

Belinda Carlisle or Nik Kershaw for my own personal preference.

Elliania · 03/07/2025 00:38

Oooh Heart once Ann Wilson is fully recovered. Definitely on my bucket list.

MouldyCandy · 03/07/2025 00:52

Cliff Richard

Kate Bush
Fleetwood Mac
Gun's & Roses
Diana Ross
Adele
Cindi Lauper

Alas I would love GNR but they really don't sound that great live - Axel Rose's voice has gone, for the most part he sounds like a boy (sorry). I verged on getting Wembley tickets but watched it on YT and decided against it which was very unlike me, and probably many other fans, but they did just not seem what they were. Slash however was amazing and held the audience captivated.

Metallica - that would wake everyone up on a Sunday afternoon..

They headlined one of the stages a few years back - can confirm they were utterly amazing. One of my favourite gigs ever.

Loads of these bands(whilst huge and amazing) lack the self deprecation needed for the legends slot, they need to be able to take the piss out of themselves a bit, get everyone up in their sequins and costumes, singing along and dancing. James Taylor for example, doesn’t scream that.
DH said not fucking Supertramp, one of the few bands he’s walked out of for being pretentious, up themselves and generally crap.

Yes that's true - although being highly experienced means they can adapt. I wouldn't have put Kylie at Glasto but on the night she absolutely nailed it - just embraced the fun and didn't take herself too seriously. There was a slightly undone feel to the show compared to her super stage show.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 03/07/2025 01:18

Texas, James or the Beautiful South

Spice Girls? Gaga?

Adele

McFly

I'd actually love to see Embrace but unlikely and probably not well known enough for the slot.

I think they played last year. They were incredible! So good I nearly bought tickets to their concert in London. They made Glastonbury for me and I was never a fan of them in the 80s/90s.

Metallica is a good shout. They are in the UK next year.

JoanChitty · 03/07/2025 08:08

Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music
Sparks

frozendaisy · 03/07/2025 08:40

Dolly Parton surely

BlueEyedBogWitch · 03/07/2025 12:31

Didn’t Dolly do it a few years back?

Pedallleur · 03/07/2025 12:34

TheDandyLion · 02/07/2025 21:55

Neil Diamond has done the ledgends slot.

Edited

he's retired/dementia

Pedallleur · 03/07/2025 12:36

not a chance of Kate Bush. She wont leave her garden. BUT if she was to tour it would be a residency in an indoor venue or 2 eg O2/Co op Live for a week in each one.
A lot of those suggestions are in overtime lifewise and Glastonbury isnt for everyone.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting KB would dream of doing it, only that she’s a genuine legend, and people would love to see her.

ChessieFL · 03/07/2025 12:52

Dolly did it in 2014. Here’s a list of who has done it:
