Glastonbury-who’s left to do the Legends slot?

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 02/07/2025 21:51

Who is left, that is a legend, has enough absolute bangers to sing along to, doesn’t take themselves too seriously, is maybe a little camp(in the glam, fun sense)and is still alive (and is capable of singing still)? All the ones I can think of have either done it, are dead or are more headliner fodder. The only ones I can think of are Blondie and Neil Diamond?
And given that most legends are now ex legends, who would be your dream Legend?

Erasure
Depeche Mode
REM
U2
Bon Jovi

(I would love Pink too 😁 she is amazing in concert)

I love Frankie Valli but saw him on something recently and he looks so old and frail. He was struggling moving round the stage, barely sung at all (bank-up singers did pretty much all of it) and when he did, it was really not great 😬

He would have been a good one around 10 years ago though!

True yes.

Duran Duran
The Eagles

I would LOVE to see Duran Duran do it 😀

Mumteedum · 03/07/2025 18:44

JoanChitty · 03/07/2025 08:08

Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music
Sparks

Omg Sparks ..YES. I loved their slot with Kate Blanchett

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2025 18:55

Bonnie Tyler might like a go at it or shakin Steven’s !

Roaminginthegloaming · 03/07/2025 19:00

Tears For Fears (and they’re locals. From Bath/Box).

”Shout”/“Mad World”/“Everybody Wants to Rule the World”/“Advice for the Young at Heart”….. all great stadium songs

or…. SLADE!

JoanChitty · 03/07/2025 19:13

Yes to Slade! We saw them at the Reading Festival 1980. I think they were in place of Ozzy Osbourne.
They were absolutely fabulous and really got the crowd going.

Pedallleur · 03/07/2025 19:14

Tears for Fears, good call. Huge hits and can work a crowd. Not a big headliner but a well known act. Depeche Mode are a stadium act in Europe so they would want a headline slot.

Has Bruce Springsteen done it?

iI'd LOVE Madonna to do it, I'm sure she's been asked.

Depeche Mode?

This would be the one time I’d go to Glastonbury! I still haven’t seen him live despite loving him for 40 years.

REM would have to reform. I saw them years ago at Old Trafford cricket ground. Brilliant gig.

Duran Duran would be amazing.

I thought they were really bad at Latitude last year.

Workisntworking · 03/07/2025 23:09

Not Duran Duran - and I say that as an ex-Duranie. Simon just can't sing any more (he wasn't that great to start with).

I'd suggest:
OMD - who are still touring
Talk Talk
Erasure
Tears For Fears

All talented bands with a strong back catalogue and mostly still active.

itwascousinhalifax · 03/07/2025 23:15

Bananarama
Madness
UB40

Oh I forgot about dolly who was another amazing favourite.
I'd love to see donna summer actually, that slot would be perfect. And Tina turner would have been great, but obviously too late now. Spice girls? No Victoria obvs but would still be fun.

@PollyIndia Sadly, Donna Summer died in 2012.

Twonewcats · 04/07/2025 00:42

Manilow 🙌

JohnTheRevelator · 04/07/2025 00:47

Agree with Depeche Mode. They've never played Glasto, apparently they've always avoided festivals as it 'its not the right fit for them'. Pity, because I think they'd be fab.

EachandEveryone · 04/07/2025 02:01

I think Robbie will do the next one.

oh dear, completely forgot about that.

butterfly0404 · 04/07/2025 11:30

Christina Aguilera
Bonnie Rait
Garth Brooks
The Eagles
Bon Jovi with Richie Sambora
Tom Jones (not sure if he's ever done legends though)
Madness would be epic
The Darkness
Billy Ocean
Spandau Ballet with Tony
Tears for Fears (one of the best gigs ive ever seen when they played at Newmarket races, incredible)
Boomtown Rats

Bonnie Tyler - she still sounds amazing.

Mike & the Mechanics - I'd love a full Genesis reunion but I gather Phil Collins' health isn't up to it.

Belinda Carlisle or Nik Kershaw for my own personal preference.

Phil's son Nick Collins is now the drummer for Mike and the Mechs, and a mighty fine drummer he is too, they are a great band x

Cattery · 04/07/2025 11:48

Paul Weller

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 05/07/2025 18:57

Has anyone mentioned Eric Clapton? He is 80 like some of the others mentioned.

I saw Mike and the Mechanics recently and they were brilliant. Nic Collins (Phil's son) on the drums.

A full Genesis reunion (including Peter Gabriel) would be amazing but, as you say, Phil is not up to it.

Alternatively a Pink Floyd reunion but I think hell would freeze over before Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour would do that.

Pink or Rihanna?! Christ I hope not! Aren’t the legends supposed to be, I don’t know, good?!

That’s very rude. Pink sells out stadiums when she tours so clearly plenty of people think she is good.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 05/07/2025 19:19
