I can’t believe I’m not seeing more threads on this. Starmer back israel against Iran. Other Muslim countries are supporting Iran.

Can someone answer as I’m slightly confused, if Iran goes to War with the US, will NATO have to respond?

Have too ? No . But will they ? Probably because the consequences if not doing so might be the end of nato

DrPrunesqualer · 18/06/2025 17:34

notimagain · 18/06/2025 15:24

It depends..

For example see Article 6 of the Treaty

https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/official_texts_17120.htm

The purpose of the Treaty is to live in peace and use all peaceful means towards that end.

So the question really is
If the US attack a non NATO member without using peaceful means first are they abiding by the principles of the Treaty.
Will other countries therefore follow them.

Some countries definitely won’t as they have already spoken out against Israel’s attack on Iran.
Other countries, ?? mainly are calling for diplomacy

it's beyond any control we have what goes on, these power hungry egotistical men in charge.

I'm holding my children a little tighter right now because honestly I'm scared.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 19/06/2025 08:56

Future presidential roles should have a cut off age of 55. These men with huge egos, some showing signs of dementia should be banned from looking after the next generation.

MushMonster · 19/06/2025 09:19

As we are here writting on this forum, they are deciding (it looks like by the drop of a coin sometimes!) which hospital, school and nuclear plant they are going to bomb next. Yet, they do not seem to care a bit. It does not seem to register with them. As good as if it was a videogame....

TomeTome · 19/06/2025 10:02

The UK do not have to support Israel or the US supporting Israel. In fact it would be illegal to do so according to some fairly well versed people. I think we should be the voice of calm and refuse to engage with this nonsense.

DrPrunesqualer · 19/06/2025 12:04

The Iranian Foreign minister is meeting with his counterparts from the UK, France and Germany and diplomats from the European Union tomorrow for discussions.
Let’s hope and pray this leads to a positive change and a de escalation of the situation.

Newsenmum · 22/06/2025 07:07

so Trump has bombed Iran.

Still think I’m crazy?

He has taken out their nuclear capabilities. Isn’t that a good thing?

Pomodorini · 22/06/2025 07:28

Poopeepoopee · 14/06/2025 22:33

No WW3 has not just started.

We're in NATO and we possess nuclear deterrants. No-one is going to attack us.

Israel has nuclear weapons and it hasn’t stopped Iran attacking Israel.

goldfishbowl2025 · 22/06/2025 07:32

Now I read that Iran’s nuclear capability was due to developing clean energy via nuclear to reduce their reliability on oil.

MushMonster · 22/06/2025 09:25

Just saw this on the news.
I really do not know what to make of it....
Some US Intelligence say there was no imminent signs of nuclear weapons, other parts of US government said there is weapons, some parts of MAGA and Congress were shouting for Trump not to be involved and not to drag US into any wars... They are not in agreement, for such an important thing, or they are not telling any bit of the truth to the public. It is impossible to see.

My question is whether all this bombing of nuclear facilities ( which is considered illegal under international law) has resulted in any radioactivity released.
And what will happen next?

esem · 22/06/2025 09:32

Pomodorini · 22/06/2025 07:28

Watch out for terrorism

esem · 22/06/2025 09:35

See the bigger picture

MushMonster · 22/06/2025 09:36

Apparently, no radiation has been reported. We shall see the truth unfolding on the coming days.
Of particular sensitivity are the reactor sites. You cannot stop a reactor just like that, because someone attacked you yesterday. And you do not even have to hit the reactor itself. Damaging of the control room or cooling systems can mean a second Chernobyl. Fingers crossed and all prayers on for those sites to have no breaches. And for none of this lot to use any nuclear weapons and no more fucking attacks on nuclear sites.

Probably a nuclear attack on Iran.

Watch out for terrorism

Yes, I bet you we shall see years and years of attacks here and there. Well, I have already lived through the IRA and ETA monthly booms and I do not miss it. Not a tad.
And let's see if UK moves a finger in all this. I am here hoping we remain actually and fully neutral. Because I do not want UK to go and bomb nuclear sites. You know. A bit of adherence to international laws. They have jumped all over these laws so much in recent times, that let's face it, they mean nothing by now and we will face this kind of tactics in any future war. All is allowed. All. Whatever hurts more.

seriously

Israel attacked iran first dont forget

MushMonster · 22/06/2025 09:53

@Pomodorini you think that Israel or US will drop nuclear weapons in Iran?
It does follow with their total lack of care with international law. But it is quite a huge and contradictory step. Nuke another country to avoid being nuked......
Let's watch what Russia does on the European front following from something like this.
More reasons to be fully out of this. There is not even a single legal line in what they do.
I think Russia and Europe do need to bury the hatch. Now. Let Russia withdraw to its original borders and stay there. And let's get back to our gas, oil and goods from the East trade. Also NATO will remain, but minus US because whoever wants to be dragged down with US!

UK business secretary Jonathan Reynolds has said the British government was aware of the US’ plans to launch airstrikes on Iran, but did not take part.

Speaking to the broadcaster Sky News on Sunday morning, he said the UK did not get a request by the US to use its Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean.

I think Netanyahu and Trump are totally unpredictable and dangerous.

Netanyahu and Trump are a right pair.
Both dangerous liars.
