BeardofHagrid · 13/06/2025 18:18

The owner of hate forum Tattle Life has today been legally named as Sebastian Bond. He also goes by the alias Bastian Durward. He has tried to flee to Asia to avoid paying his legal costs.

If he hasn’t said anything directly, there’s no legal action they can take surely? There are much worse forums out there. They’ll have to chase the individual posters for their libellous comments. He’s not guilty of opinion.

That's not how defamation works. The entity which prints, shares or facilitates defamatory comments can also be liable. That's why you can in some circumstances sue newspapers for printing defamatory comments made by another party.

The couple have already taken legal action and won.

LemondrizzleShark · 13/06/2025 22:01

I think MN would be forced to if there was a court order - one of many reasons why you shouldn’t post anything libellous on here or anywhere else!

I don’t there there is any situation where they would be compelled to announce that Mum2threekiddoes1979 who posted that she’d shagged her DH’s boss behind the speakers at his work Christmas party is actually Sarah Andrews of Cheltenham. It’s not exactly a matter of grave public interest.

scoopoftheday · 13/06/2025 22:05

@LemondrizzleShark yes, I get that, but the liked of tattle would all users be named or only the ones that make defamatory remarks?

And if all were named, (even those who never commented or who maybe defended comments) what's to stop everyone's names/emails being made public on other anonymous sites.

Maybe I'm thinking too much about it.

SteamLover · 13/06/2025 22:05

Influencer culture is toxic and expecting it to be able to operate free from criticism is really falling for the illusion that influencers want you to believe - that they’re just regular women posting to share, talk and build connections. What they actually do is leverage these parasocial relationships to build an advertising platform that they benefit from financially.

At the same time they’re peddling an idealised and unrealistic lifestyle that makes people feel bad about themselves - they have to because when people feel bad that’s exactly when they buy products to make them feel better. It’s the worst side of social media.

ForHeartyPeachOtter · 13/06/2025 22:06

Tattle has been very good at keeping the receipts on a certain grifter and some of the threads are quite fun and lighthearted. Agree that some are bonkers like the Meghan Markle one.

Why do they keep repeating the lie that users dox people? Doxing is banned and they seem to quickly crack down on any hints.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 13/06/2025 22:09

It always amuses my how high and mighty some users of MN feel about tattle, that it's a terrible place, filled with terrible people. But how do they know that unless they are reading the site themselves? And this contributing to their revenue.

I'd also bet money that their not above piling in on posters and making them feel shit. Even though some people are desperate to believe everyone on here is as pure as the driven snow you only have to have a quick browse through AIBU to see otherwise.

Unpaidviewer · 13/06/2025 22:16

"Influencers" are a weird bunch. They sell this version of themselves as a brand but then take any criticism so personally. Could you imagine the CEO of a company talking about how they are being bullied after getting bad reviews? And dont even get me started on those who show their kids online.

Deebee90 · 13/06/2025 22:20

Sorry but this place is just as bad as tattle. I’m not a member of it but I have read a few threads on there. And In my case I read the ones who are on tik tok and instagram but behind they are lying and making up stuff. I also check the one who ask about go fund mes as most of the time it’s proven they are lying.

boxofbuttons · 13/06/2025 22:21

timetochangethering · 13/06/2025 18:53

TBH it really needs to close as there is some awful stuff on there.... and some pretty toxic posters.

Find the concept of people wanting things banned just because they don't like them genuinely very scary. Yes, it's a cesspit - just avoid it!

baggybags · 13/06/2025 22:25

Bonding over a mutual hatred of a celeb seems sick.

Is it any different to bonding over a mutual
love of a celeb? I mean I think hating or loving a celeb are both obsessions that can be unhealthy.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/06/2025 22:25

So this whole thread isn't about the court case.

I must be the only person curious about that bit! Pretty full on freezing assets.

Heylittlesongbird · 13/06/2025 22:29

I’m not on it, but I’ve read it. The threads I’ve read have been good at highlighting people who ask for money without necessarily having due process in place to collect donations etc. I also found some of the ones following court cases very informative.

I seem to remember there was something a few months ago where they said it was going down and lots of people doxxed themselves. But then the site deleted all that and decided to keep going. Was that linked to all this?

I don’t doubt that there are some awful bits that I haven’t come across.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 13/06/2025 22:30

But if you are an influencer and you over share every detail about your life - you leave yourself open to scrutiny and being slagged off surely.

you can’t share your life and then expect people to respect your privacy and not gossip about you.

LeaveALittleNote · 13/06/2025 22:41

TENSsion · 13/06/2025 22:46

I like to read Tattle.

I’ve never seen posters attack each other on there like they do on mumsnet.

I think this will set a dangerous precedent.

TimeForABreak4 · 13/06/2025 22:59

Personally don't like Tattle and the people obsessing over Influencers is full on stalkerish to me but this place can be pretty nasty these days. However, I very, very much doubt they'd be allowed to out all their users.

There's gossip though and then there's vile misogynistic slurs, obsession and gloves-off hatred towards women.

OneLoudTiger · 13/06/2025 23:02

Brogues · 13/06/2025 20:24

I’ll happily name myself. I have nothing to be ashamed about here or there. Some people on the site are vile. Lots here are just as vile. Mumsnet is not the place you think it is if you think everyone is genuine here.

Same - I used to post on Tattle regularly although deleted my account maybe 4 years ago now. I do still browse it and I have to say it’s got a lot lot meaner than it used to be.

Some posts on MN can be really awful but it’s in a different way I guess.

KittyWindbag · 13/06/2025 23:22

I just saw Ashley James on instagram mention this. She said she hires a PI to look into tattlers who reported her to social services!! WTF is wrong with people?? So I looked at her tattle thread to see if they’re talking about it and lo and behold there’s someone doubling down on the fact they did so and apparently also reported her to the police. A horrible site full of sad, sick, lonely people.

beezlebubnicky · 13/06/2025 23:26

Fupoffyagrasshole · 13/06/2025 20:42

Everyone on tattle is only being mean about people who post their lives in public

they users are mostly very nice to each other

unlike this site where people are vile and nasty to other users.

I agree @Fupoffyagrasshole I enjoy Tattle and for the most part people are fine, a lot of the more extreme stuff gets reigned in. I've seen much more unpleasant stuff on here. A lot of these influencers only have themselves to blame, I've seen a lot of good comment there around lack of child safeguarding and the like.

TERFlawnBOY · 13/06/2025 23:28

I have no sympathy.

This website openly mocks children, even disabled ones like Katie Price’s son Harvey. Disgusting

I agree. If you sell the privacy of yourself and, quite often, your children, you can’t then moan when people share their opinions about the information you’ve publicised. It’s like writing a book then kicking off if people dislike it and leave negative reviews.

ThisOchreScroller · 13/06/2025 23:39

I am not a member but I do read and I think there needs to be somewhere to discuss the absolute bullshit that some influencers peddle as real life. Most of the stuff would just move to Reddit if not on there.

Make no mistake though - people can and do give hints as to people's addresses. "3 bed new build bungalow in X village for £380k" is enough!

And some of the posters are not what they seem. I know one who is pretending to be in hospital with breast cancer and she is not ill, does not have the number of children she says she does and has posed as critically ill on at least 2 other forums.

IberianBlackout · 14/06/2025 00:02

Can someone give me a tl;dr on what’s wrong/going on with tattle?

The last time I checked it was ages ago when they were roasting that girl that sells tile stickers from Manchester.

But they’d only know it was a 3 bed bungalow in x village if the influencer had dropped enough info for Denise on tattle to know that? And they have to do that to get their free range cooker and to be paid for posting about it.

You can’t expose yourself for personal gain then moan when people know things about you?

Either it’s worth it for the free cooker or just don’t do it. There’s free will employed in participating.
