Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

Did I miss something?
"They did a bad thing to us', that could be applied to either side, both have done disgraceful inhumane things.
"They want our land", again that could be applied to either side.
"These people aren't people, are they really?" That could be applied to either side, both have been accused of dehumanising the other.

Why are people so convinced so that she is talking about Jewish people or Israelis or victims of Oct 7 when taken at face value what she is saying is a commentary of the whole situation from both sides?

What are you talking about. Israel is the historical home of the Jewish people, and their agreed homeland after the horrors of the Holocaust. Israel has the largest Jewish population in the world, and when people want free reign to express their antisemitism they condemn Israel, regardless.

It was not agreed by the Palestinians.

You will not stop people criticising Israel.

Exactly.

Although I'm no supporter of Netanyahu's Israel and what's happening in Gaza, I was absolutely shocked by Dawn French's tweet. Is she callous or just plain stupid...? Or both?

Never liked her anyway. Her constant attention seeking, grinning at the camera, pontificating endlessly, particularly about her weight. Her talent is average - Jennifer Saunders always outshone her.

‘Would find’ or ‘did find’ it reprehensible?

If I saw them I would. I haven’t seen them, but I’m not arguing whether they exist, and if they do, it’s equally reprehensible. As already stated.
You’re really clutching at straws here.

Lifesd · 07/06/2025 13:00

When I first saw if I didn’t know what she was talking about - now I know I think it is vile

When she puts on that baby voice and mocks, "Yeah, but, you know, they did a bad thing to us," she is talking about the attacks on the Nova festival.

The whole Nova festival, where so many young people were slaughtered, was scheduled to coincide with Jewish holidays: the final day of Sukot (6 October) and Simchat Torah (7 October).

It has been said to be the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust, when six million Jews died.

How convenient you haven’t seen them, yet totally unsurprising.

Tamzin Outhwaite has liked the video on Instagram, which I hope gets picked up in the media. I see Dawn has turned off comments for that particular post.

I'm not surprised DF has turned off comments. The whole video is puerile and distasteful. It's as if she's trying to make a comedy skit out of a tragedy (on both sides of the conflict).

What next, Harry Enfield resurrecting Mr Angry to tell Russia to get out of Ukraine to stop ? 😒

I can't imagine what she was thinking. DF must havd a truly enormous ego if she thinks her wittering are at all helpful or relevant.

inamarina · 07/06/2025 13:04

nomas · 07/06/2025 12:45

Except she didn’t.

She did, stop with the ridiculous gaslighting.
Who do you think she was referring to with her whiny “They did a bad thing to us”? Who is “us”?

RubyBirdy · 07/06/2025 13:04

Netanyahu is depraved and the IDF are inhumane. It’s so far beyond what happened on October 7th now, it’s HUNDREDS of days of slaughtering Palestinians. And I say this as someone who lost someone on 7th October. He would not have wanted thousands of children killed in his name.

notawittyname1954 · 07/06/2025 13:05

Whatever she meant or whatever anyone construes it as the whole stupid voice totally trivialises what is happening, Because others have said or done vile and horrific things doesn't take away from the lack of thought from her post. It is possible to be appalled and upset about more than one thing at a time. Surely we can feel sad and compassionate about what happened on October 7th and what is occurring in Gaza.

It's really weird and nasty. Does she have substance issues or is declining mentally? She doesn't strike me as someone who has been offensive in the past. Christ knows what she is thinking.

Exactly. My first thought was is she on drugs??

She is referring to the fact that the Israeli government always think that they are in defence but actually they are the attackers.

nomas · 07/06/2025 12:51

It was not agreed by the Palestinians.

You will not stop people criticising Israel.

I'm not trying to get people to stop criticising Israel.

I am criticising Dawn French for mocking and belittling the suffering of the victims of the October 7 attacks, who were raped, and slaughtered as they attended a music festival, captured, taken hostage, young people, women, babies, the elderly, many of whom have died in captivity. If you'd be cool with your kids going to a music festival and being slaughtered, well, what can I say.

kerstina · 07/06/2025 13:10

I just watched it ,she is in my opinion basically saying No there are no excuses for what is happening and I agree with her.
look at this from a distance and see who is committing evil. Hamas were for their act but so is Israel. The west should be more restrained but Israel has gone in like a bulldozer like it always did. If Iran now fired nuclear weapons at the west for supporting Israel and trying to obliterate Palestinians what would you say ?
I am not anti semetic for supporting her. I am a big fan of Michael Rosen. He doesn’t support Israel’s actions either.

OonaStubbs · 07/06/2025 13:13

Why should "the west be more restrained"?

HRTQueen · 07/06/2025 13:14

No

there is no excuse or reason to allow and the the cause of children starving to death that’s what she is saying it isn’t hard to work out

the actions of Israel are war crimes against children

You can say enough is enough (and why do we need Dawn French's opinion on this, anyway) without mocking and belittling the victims of the October 7 Nova Festival attack by Hamas which started this whole thing off.

HRTQueen · 07/06/2025 13:18

Firstly this did not start from the 7 October attacks

not all victims of 7 October agree with the Israeli government and their actions

forensicdetective · 07/06/2025 13:21

Firstly this did not start from the 7 October attacks

And yet, in her video, that is what Dawn is referring to, in her whiny mocking voice as "a bad thing" that was done.

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/06/2025 13:23

This sounds like a terrible misjudgment by her. There can never be any excuse for going to kibutzes and murdering completely innocent civilians and mowing down young people celebrating at a music festival.

TheWisePlumDuck · 07/06/2025 13:25

OonaStubbs · 07/06/2025 13:13

Why should "the west be more restrained"?

Because those poor little savages can't help being barbaric, raping, sadistic murderers. But the West are civilised human beings and so should turn the other cheek.

At least that's the inference that seems to come from some loony lovie corners.

Who would the “no” be directed at if she were talking about Palestinians?
