Anyone else appalled and shocked at Dawn French's social media video mocking the reaction to the terror attack in Israel on Oct 6th. What on earth was she thinking ? She comes across as horrible and lacking in any empathy. I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of this war, in Palestine and in Israel.

She's clearly mocking the idea of it being actually complicated and nuanced.

But mostly she is mocking the Jewish people in every whiny, baby-voiced sentiment, mocking the suffering of the victims of October 7, and mocking and gurning like an unreasonable whining child as she puts forward what she childishly imagines are the Israeli people's views. It's disgusting.

She is not mocking Jewish people, you really need to stop equating Israelis with Jews. It’s possible to criticise Israel without bringing in Jewish people into it.

nomas · 07/06/2025 12:27

inamarina · 07/06/2025 11:58

The gaslighting is really something else.
You see it on this thread too: “Oh, she’s not mocking the victims, she’s just mocking the people who’re trying to justify Israel’s actions!”
Sure, that’s why she’s talking in that ridiculous whiny voice, saying “They did a bad thing to us” She says “us”, not “them”, so she’s talking from the perspective of the Israelis, mocking their pain. Absolutely vile.
I wonder how the posters defending her would have reacted if she’d mocked the Palestinians in the same manner: “Oh, they’re starving us”.
Something tells me that in that case their reaction would have been quite different.

There are actually videos of Israelis making videos of themselves drinking water and eating food to make fun of starving and thirsty Palestinians. I wonder how you reacted to that 🤔

She wasn't "criticising Israel". She was mocking the events of Oct 7th.

Gloriia · 07/06/2025 11:47

Exactly.

If anyone is hungry it is because hamas keep it all for themselves. During the hostage releases all we saw were very well fed terrorists and the baying mob looked fit and well too.

No hamas, NO. Is this how we do it?

When the mainstream media shows differently, you should give up the lies.

No, she wasn’t.

Does anyone know if she's received any on line support from luvvy mates?

Tamzin Outhwaite has liked the video on Instagram, which I hope gets picked up in the media. I see Dawn has turned off comments for that particular post.

No, she wasn’t.

Yes she was.
(this could get boring..!)
It was offensive in tone. She could have made a pro Palestine post without doing that.

What about the Israelis describing Palestinians as ‘rats’? Did you find that hurtful? Care to date any of the numerous of massacres of Palestinians by the Israelis?

We are discussing Dawn French's post, not what the Isreali Government have said.

Do I have to follow up every opinion on every topic with a line about the treatment of the people in Gaza, name check a date where x number of people in Gaza were killed?

FWIW yes describing Palestinian civilians as rats is awful.

SchoolDilemma17 · 07/06/2025 12:38

Honestly IDAF what any celebrity says or doesn’t say about world politics or news. Most of them are dim anyway.

ForWittyTealOP · 07/06/2025 12:38

madroid · 07/06/2025 11:09

What is it you actually object to in the video?

She starts by saying its complicated and nuanced.

She uses that voice to minimise the attempts at justifying why they are starving children to death in Palestine, suggesting these are unimportant when set against children being killed by starving.

And she keeps repeating 'no' to emphasise that no matter how the war started starving children to death cannot be right.

I'm not sure what people are finding so wrong with that?

I absolutely agree with her - there is no justification for starving children to death in any context or circumstance. Just NO

She's not saying it's complicated or nuanced. She's sneering at people who believe it is. Like most experts on the subject. She thinks the solution exists in a 20 second video clip of her saying no.

I would find it equally reprehensible. What’s your point?

What a dick!

The more that unspeakable things are done to Palestinians, the more that some people from Israel (not all) come on here and say “poor us! How awful people are to us!”. It’s almost like gaslighting.

You mean Jews so say so.

Letstheriveranswer · 07/06/2025 12:43

By the way if her tweet causes any impact to her professionally, cue everyone saying "the Zionist lobby had her cancelled".

That's how all the gaslighting works.

If someone wants to criticise Israel, they can do so without mocking the victims of October 7th.

‘Would find’ or ‘did find’ it reprehensible?

Let’s not kid ourselves that you’ve ever posted in defence of Palestinians.

somejust · 07/06/2025 12:47

Oh I saw the video - I get it now.
So she has this thing where she states an observation or tells a story and then does a mutter mutter voice - it's part of a series that her fans and followers appreciate.

What she's done here is choose a situation that doesn't fit the delivery, which has moved it from her echo chamber to a wider stage - and all the consequences that follow.

I think it is inevitable that if public figures use social media a lot, at some point there will be a fallout. Wiser to stay away, really. Especially X, which is dangerous waters.

You found it offensive, it doesn’t mean it was offensive.

British people mocked Germans during WW2. It's something that has happened in pretty much every war. The point is that the Palestinians started this war when they attacked Israel on October 7th. What exactly did they think Israel was going to do?

Wiser to stay away

But that’s what Israel wants, for people to accept Netanyahu’s narrative.

Israel started the war long before when it occupied Palestinian lands. What did they think Palestinians were going to do?

What are you talking about. Israel is the historical home of the Jewish people, and their agreed homeland after the horrors of the Holocaust. Israel has the largest Jewish population in the world, and when people want free reign to express their antisemitism they condemn Israel, regardless.
