Which songs are way better than the originals (in your opinion, of course!)

I LOVE Boys Town Gang version of Can't Take My Eyes (one of my favourite songs) but no one else seems to know it.

Sorry, it was just a silly joke suggesting that Michael Barrymore's terrible cringefest version of another Coolio song could somehow possibly compare - i.e. Coolio might be best at one song he did but was bettered in another of his songs by MB, which was (I hope) clearly ridiculous!

The choir was very good - and long-suffering - mind.

No, I never did - but I've heard his songs loads of times on the radio and TV.

It's probably just personal preference, but although the straight singing was good, I've never liked all the squeaking and squalling that he usually did.

I'm sure he was a great performer and showman, mind.

Nobody can hold a candle to Willie Nelson for Always On My Mind, imho.

My 2 favourite cover versions are Walk on by,by The Stranglers (originally done by Dionne Warwick) and Tainted Love by Soft Cell (originally by Gloria Jones). To be fair,I do like the originals as well,but I think the cover versions are even better. I didn't even realise until about 10 years ago that Soft Cell's version was a cover version. I think the appeal of both of the cover versions is that they are so totally different to the original,but still the same song. I've got no time for cover versions that are just a copy of the original. Make it as different as possible,I say!

Not a cover but an 'uncover' Walk Away Renee by the Left Bank. The Four Tops cover was a massive hit but the original is lovely.
Handbags and Gladrags by Chris Farlow is my favourite version. Originally by Mike D'Abo. Agree that Phil Collins Tomorrow Never Knows is good. I saw Siouxsie perform Dear Prudence. Damn good ...but the original is a pure vibe...untouchable.

Quite a few of the songs on the Mark Ronson 'Version' album, especially 'Stop Me' (huge improvement on The Smiths) and Valerie by Amy Winehouse.
