If this thread tells me anything it tells me that most mumsnetters are on tax credits, not allowed to have more than £6k and seem quite happy to stay that way. And why not, it's not a bad way to live. But some of us want more.It's also blindingly obvious that a lot of people don't know the difference between savings and investments.

Which is amazing considering she was a housewife and her husband only worked 9-5. AND they used to go to the movies, restaurants and slow dancing on that budget. Different times.

I agree, and as a long term fan of Patsy’s I’ve always been intrigued about the move to Malibu. I’ve read her memoir and she’s very open about the money she spent on drugs. Also, why does she travel half-way across the world to do the odd EE stint? It pays well but not that well.

Shock, horror, person in public eye is actually sensible with money, invested wisely and works. For many years she was out of the public eye raising her family too. She earned well and didn’t live the celeb high cost lifestyle, reaping the rewards. I don’t begrudge anyone who actually works for their money, trust fund nepo babies however…. Get a job

I never said that. If you’re wealthy why would you travel a round trip of 11,000 miles a few times a year to work a job that won’t be adding much to your wealth? It’s a completely different scenario to, say, accountant Bob on £70K per year who lives in Herts and who flys out every so often to his company’s HQ in Belgium.

You make it sound like she’s trekked the Great Wall of China. It’s a quick direct flight from LA.

And she started filming Jan 24 and was in a central storyline until April 25. Quickly followed by a stint in celeb big brother.

Why the fuck wouldn’t she take a quick flight for lucrative work that pays well and keeps the celebrity profile up? Not to mention seeing old friends and family into the bargain.

I had read that Patsy Palmer isn't her real name. When she's in America, she uses her real name Julie Merkell (she was born Julie Anne Harris, but she's uses her married surname of Merkell) and because of this, no one knows who she really is.

I think the 'mansion' thing is a total tabloid exaggeration and throwing people. PP's house appears to be a reasonable sized family home, albeit one beautifully decorated and with gorgeous views. I don't think Malibu is generally as expensive as many of us may have assumed, going by the rightmove link posted upthread. It was probably a very affordable house for a successful soap actress compared to anything similar somewhere like say, the Chilterns.
From what people are saying on this thread, she is a very nice, friendly person, so it's easy to see why she is popular out there, including with people who are are A-list famous, especially if she is DJ-ing at social events.
