One of my friends gave me Patsy’s autobiography to read. I really enjoyed it!
Very humble beginnings, she too had her struggles with early fame with drinking and drugs, so I don’t think she was tucking away her salary in the early days.
Her husband now was a London cabbie.
She did build on her success when she settled down a bit, with her tanning line, fitness videos etc.
She seems to be very well connected in the US. She’s friends with Cindy Crawford, amongst others.
I have absolutely no idea how she’s funded it all but good luck to her. She’s done a fantastic job over the years on EE.

Not the point of the post but used to love sticking Patsy Palmers club workout VHS tape on and doing some exercise.

She's 52!

A) she's probably worked since she was at least 18
B) might have had parents or grandparents who passed away (inherited there house)
C) had bumper earning years acting/interviews during cheaper house prices/higher currency exchange years
D) shes married (as long as he works at all she might have set her wage aside)
E) investments

I would understand you not understanding it if she was 25 but really she's had above national income jobs for the bulk of her 20s/30's/40's

She was in Grange Hill at 13 so been working all her teenage years as well.
Her eldest went to same primary school as my nieces so she was still living in the Hoxton back in the 90s

There seems to be some idea that interest rates have always been around 4%. They haven't.

She’s been working as an actress since 1985! 50 years pay.

She would have been able to buy a starter flat in London aged 18 in 1990. Imagine the London property price increases since then!

any one who bought in London in 1990 will be a millionaire now.

If 1985 is 50 years ago that makes me 60 - and I am definitely NOT 60!! (Find it hard enough accepting that I'm 50 😫)

When you think what Daniella Westbrook spent on cocaine then Patsy clearly took the right path. EE was well paid. Supposedly Westbrook was on 100k per year back then. Anyway, Patsy is living the life, not in our faces and whatever she does with her money is nothing to do with us.

Patsy was a drug addict back then too. Luckily she didn't get to Daniella's stage though.

Yes, because she is working class. It is very hard to make and keep a lot of money if you are working class. Or middle class. Most of us don't really understand money at all. Serious money, I mean. I would love to know what is really possible. Saving pennies can add up to quite a big sum of money over the years (for the likes of me) but not enough to afford an eternal Malibu lifestyle.

Op's question is interesting to me because I feel that media figures often peddle a fantasy to us about how much money they have and the lifestyle it affords. Look at Katie Price who was touted as this amazing businesswoman worth 45m and then went through several bankruptcies. Then there are the reality stars who pretend to have made it, hiring fancy cars and apartments to bolster the fantasy. Then come a cropper. We love the fantasy, but sometimes I wish there was more transparency about wealth and how it is lost or made.

But perhaps op's question is a tad intrusive because it targets a specific person. Why pick on Patsy?

Edited

Most people confusing "being rich" with "spending money".
The trick is to make money and not spend it.
In other words, live like a poor person while you stash it away.
Most people don't want to do this - they see the whole purpose of being well off as being able to spend it, to have a "lifestyle". If you are not spending it, what is the point?

Not talking about PP, as I don't know her history, but as others have said here, once you get a few grand to start, you invest and don't spend.
Continue doing that for several decades, and then you can afford to start spending during the second half of your life.

I'm adding to this wierd thread to just say she came into a ward I worked on on in the 90s to see the children and was AMAZING. We had many famous people come up who seemed to be just there for photo ops but she just came alone, properly played with he children for ages and was so lovely to the staff .I'm glad she's done well.

LoafofSellotape · 16/05/2025 08:44

I'm sure she said on BB that she had a successful dog kennel business too, so probably looked after all the celeb's dogs.

She left the UK! No longer paying UK taxes on earnings … fled like many more continue to do.

HotHoney · 16/05/2025 08:46

PinkMagpie · 16/05/2025 05:54

Her ex-husband is Nick Love who made a lot of money. He is a film director and directed The Business, Football Factory etc

She was married to him for about a week Grin

HotHoney · 16/05/2025 08:46

What’s your guess OP?

Katbum · 16/05/2025 08:47

This thread is weird. Other people's money is a private matter. We can probably be confident that she didn't make LA lifestyle money from Eastenders. But there's plenty of other ways she might have as this thread indicates. I doubt we will ever know, and I really don't mind that.

lechatnoir · 16/05/2025 08:47

For those of you flummoxed how someone can turn a £100k salary back in the 90's into millions today, clearly aren't familiar with the London property market. Good for her I say but intrigued what the OP is getting at as she clearly has an opinion on this!

lechatnoir · 16/05/2025 08:50

Not an uncommon example:

blacksantanapkin · 16/05/2025 08:50

What do they get paid on eastenders? I wonder if they publish the salaries like they do with other BBC jobs

xsquared · 16/05/2025 08:54

This is such an odd thread. Why are you obsessed with what a celebrity with does with their money?

Good on her.

Yatuway · 16/05/2025 08:55

She was of an age and stage to have bought at just the right time in London. Prices dropped in the early to mid 90s, and lots of people did very well from getting their first property then. Eastenders would've paid a decent salary, and also we're talking about someone who had a regular acting role as a teenager.

Basically, I can see how someone with an interest and skill at property plus the ability to earn early could've managed to leverage the fortunate timing she had.

CountryQueen · 16/05/2025 08:59

Doggymummar · 16/05/2025 08:23

I don't know if she remarried, but I think her husband was a black cab driver they earn easy six figures. She would have done the same. When she lived in Brighton she was very down to earth and friendly investments would have done it. Never any whiff of scandal. Drugs, drink etc like some of her era.

Eh? She was an addict for decades by her own admission.

Poonu · 16/05/2025 09:00

Her son is a top model

Yatuway · 16/05/2025 09:07

Looks like she's a good example of some addicts being more functional than others.

HelloVeraPlant · 16/05/2025 09:09

I don’t follow her closely but she has always come across as someone that keeps her personal life personal, but she’s a public figure. People like that could be doing very well for themselves (or not) but clearly she is doing well. We don’t know how, but she has had plenty of opportunities throughout her life to make wise money choices and she also seems like she has the social circle too.

I think, good for her.

PickyTits · 16/05/2025 09:09

Fair play to the woman. It seems like she has grafted hard and it's paid off, good for her. I know some people think she comes across as grumpy or moody but I think it's just that she can't be bothered with all the fakeness so many celebrities buy into - I feel she only seems grumpy by comparison. If she was working in my local Tesco or on the school run she wouldn't really stand out as being rude or grumpy, just normal.

sakuraspring · 16/05/2025 09:18

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 16/05/2025 07:44

Why must she have inherited or won the lottery rather than made it by investing what would have been a good salary in property or businesses?

Because she’s a woman / working class / a former actress ?

I know. There's some horrible insinuations here.

Seems like she's worked hard, done things out of the public eye and invested well /been lucky to have bought property before prices went crazy

ThePoshUns · 16/05/2025 09:20

She always comes across as down to earth and a grafter. Good on the woman.
