Can somebody please direct me to these magical 8% savings accounts please as I cannot find anything paying that much. Seriously. @Savoury

Best I found was 4.5% and that dropped down to 4% recently.

I did also get an 8% return on a higher risk investment though within a year, so it’s possible!

Hwi · 16/05/2025 07:39

Same as my semi-literate in English former landlady (Sri Lanka). Being very very careful with the pennies. And then clever with the pennies.

Touty · 16/05/2025 02:57

It still does not add up. It doesn’t look like the husband had any money

What are you expecting the answer to be? And why would you expect anyone here to have it?

I'm sure she's worked hard but she had a drug habit to fund at one time - good on her for getting clean - and they don't come cheap.
Even if she was on £100k a year when she in EE or more than that, it is still good going to turn that into £9million
Must have inherited or won the lottery or something.
But good for her. I think there's quite a lot of envy on this thread. I must admit, I wouldn't mind waking up in Malibu every morning.

You need to take a closer look at that table in the ML link you posted @ChristmasFluff

Why must she have inherited or won the lottery rather than made it by investing what would have been a good salary in property or businesses?

Because she’s a woman / working class / a former actress ?

soupyspoon · 16/05/2025 07:44

Its totally possible. If she started working when young, she will have been living at home, if her parents were clever and enabled her to invest the money correctly, paying all the right taxes so nothing comes up to bite later down the line, she will have had a nice little nest egg to buy her first property, out of that comes a second, then house price inflation, as you go on and on and on, if she kept investing in that way or building up equity, its likely she will have been able to get enough to start other businesses as she seems to have done

😂 so weird op. Why do you think you know so much about her in order to say whether she can afford to live in Malibu or not?

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 16/05/2025 07:52

She did some good side hustles while she was in Enders - fitness videos etc.

Then didn’t she have something funny happen about paying UK tax and that’s why she moved to US?

I also assume she then invested the lump sum she had wisely and has been able to build up - as a “British celeb” she probably made loads of good contacts etc. plus the real estate, DJing, social media, health guru type stuff she does.

bluesinthenight · 16/05/2025 07:53

Touty · 16/05/2025 02:20

I dunno it doesn’t add up, she wasn’t paid megabucks

That is so true. People imagine that they are paid loads, but they're not. The BBC can't afford it. Except for Gary Lineker.

bluesinthenight · 16/05/2025 07:53

Wealthy hubby?

Does nobody remember her fitness stuff? She was a bit of an influencer before it was a thing! 🤣

Nope

slamdunk66 · 16/05/2025 07:54

I thought she was a successful DJ?

bridgetreilly · 16/05/2025 07:55

Maybe she can’t afford it. Maybe she’s living on credit with sky high bills she struggles to pay. Why would you care?

Yes, because she is working class. It is very hard to make and keep a lot of money if you are working class. Or middle class. Most of us don't really understand money at all. Serious money, I mean. I would love to know what is really possible. Saving pennies can add up to quite a big sum of money over the years (for the likes of me) but not enough to afford an eternal Malibu lifestyle.

Op's question is interesting to me because I feel that media figures often peddle a fantasy to us about how much money they have and the lifestyle it affords. Look at Katie Price who was touted as this amazing businesswoman worth 45m and then went through several bankruptcies. Then there are the reality stars who pretend to have made it, hiring fancy cars and apartments to bolster the fantasy. Then come a cropper. We love the fantasy, but sometimes I wish there was more transparency about wealth and how it is lost or made.

But perhaps op's question is a tad intrusive because it targets a specific person. Why pick on Patsy?

EastGrinstead · 16/05/2025 08:01

Clearly the OP is delighted that Patsy has been so successful.

No oozing of bitterness here.😁

Its perfectly possible. At 18 or whenever she started Eastenders, what would she have been on per year, say 30k? 50K?

Over 3 years, living at home perhaps, only spending a little bit of money, she might have built up enough for a home outright if she bought something cheap enough or a mortgage deposit for sure. Properties were cheaper then.

maximalistmaximus · 16/05/2025 08:06

She’s been working as an actress since 1985! 50 years pay.

She would have been able to buy a starter flat in London aged 18 in 1990. Imagine the London property price increases since then!

any one who bought in London in 1990 will be a millionaire now.

RobertaBeckett · 16/05/2025 08:12

She can’t be that well off of she’s just done big brother surely ?

she seemed rather sad on there

It’s not savings accounts, you can invest in property in ways other than buying it

TheNinny · 16/05/2025 08:14

Normal people live there too, there are ‘regular’ less glamorous neighbourhoods. I knew someone who was a uni prof living there for a while.

Lurkingandlearning · 16/05/2025 08:16

To be sure whether it adds up or not you would need accurate figures for her income and assets and those of her husband. You would also need to know what specific investments they have bought and sold and when. And then track the performance of those investments over the time frame.

darthbreakz · 16/05/2025 08:20

She's a big time DJ. She makes loads of money I think.

StillCreatingAName · 16/05/2025 08:22

😆what on earth is this thread?!
OP, unless you are the person, it’s absolutely none of your business x 10000. Or you’re personally on a deadline to post a Daily Fail ‘story’…

Doggymummar · 16/05/2025 08:23

I don't know if she remarried, but I think her husband was a black cab driver they earn easy six figures. She would have done the same. When she lived in Brighton she was very down to earth and friendly investments would have done it. Never any whiff of scandal. Drugs, drink etc like some of her era.

gingercat02 · 16/05/2025 08:25

EE actors earn 2-3K per episode she was in it for 14 years on and off. She was also in Grange Hill.
Her celeb DJ gig is probably better paid than you would think.
Good advice and good investments
