Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

you'll vote for an Israeli performer even though someone else could be more deserving of their vote talent wise?

Not that I d seen it since the days of Sandi Shaw but I’m genuinely curious as to the above.

Did you complain when everyone voted for Ukraine in solidarity with their plight?

Ellephanting · 16/05/2025 09:50

I haven’t watched it for years. I can’t stand the two presenters. Bring back Terry Wogan!

Well I've good news for you. There's only one presenter for the Final and he's not the same as the presenters for the semis who you don't seem to actually be able to name.

Also I think bringing back Terry might be a little difficult.

Why are you assuming I can’t name them? And yes, I’m aware that Terry Wogan is dead but thanks for the heads up.

You could easily have proven you knew who they were by naming them in your post just then.

But you didn't. Clearly you don't know their names.

Happy googling.

You have a delightfully easy life if this is worth writing a post about

You are hilarious 😂. Why on earth are you prattling on at me about that?

Cos you've properly amused me with your 'i hate Eurovision so much, then saying you dislike the presenters and how you haven't watched it for twenty years'...

It's almost like you have to protest too much.

I bet it's your guilty secret where you close the curtains, stick on a glittery top and watch avidly every year and then spend the next week demonstrating at work how awful it is and how you wouldn't lower yourself to watching it.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 16/05/2025 10:03

The absolute epitome of virtue signalling from the OP
The faux naivety of ooh just wondered if anyone else was boycotting
If you are confident in your principles and happy with your choices why does it matter what anyone else is doing?
watch dont watch
it's up to you and your own personal moral compass
but pretending that you're just asking as opposed to " ooh look at me" is a bit tragic

BeeCucumber · 16/05/2025 10:04

Nope - highlight of the year for us.

I haven’t said I hate Eurovision so much, are you a bit confused? Bless.

SirChenjins · 16/05/2025 10:11

I'll do what I do most years - watch the first few songs, get bored about 45 minutes in, roll my eyes at the rainbows and enbees, use it as an excuse to eat and drink too much, then check the news in the morning to see who won.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 16/05/2025 10:29

I have just watched last night's performance by Yuval Raphael, and I have watched the video of her singing the song with subtitles.

Am I right in thinking last night she sang in English, French and Hebrew ?

A brave and clever young woman, who can actually sing and entered the competition in Israel and won !

All I can say, is ' Thank you God ' that for her, A New Day did Rise

for so so many it did not.

587 days
58 hostages
bring them home

slamdunk66 · 16/05/2025 10:29

I’ll be boycotting it again this year like I did last year. Israel should not be allowed to compete. Their prime minster is wanted for war crimes and is committing genocide on the people of Gaza. This week there’s been 100’s of civilians killed

I listened to the Israeli contestant speak about what she went through on October 7th and it was utterly horrific. I feel sad that Israel are using her to garner sympathy.

Arayofcalm · 16/05/2025 10:35

It's terrible that Israel was allowed to compete since they are carrying out a genocide. I'm so glad that atleast previous Eurovision contestants have protested against Israel being allowed to take part.

Limth · 16/05/2025 10:36

No way. I fucking love Eurovision.

Israel usually bring good game so I'm pleased they're in it.

A few pearly-clutching, virtue-signalling British lefties not watching Eurovision won't make a blind bit of difference to the Israel-Gaza situation.

Limth · 16/05/2025 10:41

I did!!

"Stefania" by Kalush was absolutely not the best song in Eurovision that year.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 16/05/2025 12:00

I mean its unadulterated shite and always has been. But the added po-faced politicising of the event is tedious in the extreme.

JaneJeffer · 16/05/2025 12:02

StupidBoy · 16/05/2025 09:37

Well in general Ireland and the Irish are pretty hostile to Israel and to Jews are they not? Who can blame him?

I'm not sure whether it's been mentioned on this thread but I heard on the radio this morning that the girl singing the Israeli entry is actually a survivor of the musical festival massacre by Hamas on 7th October, on the day Hamas decided to start a war. She fled the gunmen and hid in a literal pile of people in a tunnel, while the gunmen fired randomly into it, knowing they were there. I do hope people try to bear that in mind before they think she's a legitimate target for booing, jeering and intimidation. She's probably already got PTSD. Who wouldn't have, after that?

Contrast that to the rapturous welcome and support given by Ukraine at Eurovision at their first appearance following being invaded by Russia.

Maybe the fact that Ukraine hasn’t killed thousands of innocent children has something to do with that.

If Palestine wanted to enter an act would you think that they should be criticised on account of the murder and kidnapping of innocents they have also indulged in?

This is clearly what happened last year.
The public vote for Israel was huge.

It’s such a scam

Hopeitgoesok · 17/05/2025 03:14

The Irish aren’t hostile to Jews, no.
Just as a point of information.

Hating what the Israeli government is doing to civilians (as well as hating what terrorists have done of course!) does not mean you hate the Jewish people.

Just wanted to clarify that because there seems to be an ongoing smear campaign.

Perhaps she is expressing a courageous defiance against Hamas, that murderous terror group.
