Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

I'm boycotting it because aside from the year that maneskin won, and then the year that sam Ryder came second, its been shite

but I agree with your reasons boycott though

Pollqueen · 14/05/2025 19:05

Nope, not boycotting and you can't blame a single contestant for the actions of their government or the competition's governing body.

There's a word for that: bullying

magpiemagical · 14/05/2025 19:07

I don’t @Pollqueen, that’d be crazy.

No.

sanityisamyth · 14/05/2025 19:10

I’ve never watched is so wouldn’t make any difference!

LlynTegid · 14/05/2025 19:11

There were not things such as broadband and smartphones the last time I watched Eurovision, so I am sure my non-watching will make no difference. Though I did once record with a touring member of Brotherhood of Man.

SteaknSalad · 14/05/2025 19:12

I don’t watch it anyway, but the rules seem consistent enough to me.

The Russian government launched the initial attack on Ukraine which kicked off the ongoing conflict, so Russia was banned whilst Ukraine are still allowed to compete.

Likewise, the Palestinian government launched the initial attack on Israel (7th Oct) which kicked off the ongoing current conflict, so Israel are still allowed to compete.

ChaToilLeam · 14/05/2025 19:24

Nope, I'll be watching as usual.

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 14/05/2025 19:26

I'll not be watching as usual.

MayaPinion · 14/05/2025 19:27

No, I’m not into performative boycotting.

Mollysocks · 14/05/2025 19:29

Well if Australia can compete then so can Israel? I don’t personally think non-Euro countries should be able to but that’s just me.

WhatNoRaisins · 14/05/2025 19:31

I wouldn't say I'm boycotting but Eurovision is something I used to watch for fun. With all the drama last year it wasn't enjoyable for me so I've stopped watching it.

Missywelliot · 14/05/2025 19:33

No.

BatchCookBabe · 14/05/2025 19:36

LOL no. There's no reason why Isreal shouldn't compete.

You do know right @magpiemagical that literally no-one will care if you boycott Eurovision?! Wink

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/05/2025 19:36

I never watch it anyway. But why is it still called Eurovision if Australia is allowed to compete?

BatchCookBabe · 14/05/2025 19:36

Not gonna lie, I am baffled as to why Australia is in it. Confused I mean they're not even CLOSE to Europe!

Shudacudawuda · 14/05/2025 19:40

We'll be watching as usual because the kids love it and it's nice to have something we will all watch together.
Agree with the PP who said the Manneskin and Sam Ryder years were the best though! Hoping for a good one this year, last year was truly dreadful 😆

BingoBling · 14/05/2025 19:40

No, definitely would not boycott it - for reasons pp have given.

Hamiltonfan · 14/05/2025 19:41

I will be watching it and voting for Israel. Their singer was at the Nova festival and almost killed on October 7th. The hatred she is facing now and the risks to her life absolutely disgust me.

Well yes but Australia aren't currently committing a genocide....

HermioneWeasley · 14/05/2025 19:41

The analogy is that Ukraine are (rightly) allowed to perform despite fighting back against aggression on their sovereign land.

MissyB1 · 14/05/2025 19:43

I'm with you OP, I wouldn't be able to stomach watching it this year, and we normally love it in our house.

Vitrolinsanity · 14/05/2025 19:43

To be fair, no one ever came second better than Sam Ryder.

StupidBoy · 14/05/2025 19:45

Russia started a war. Israel didn't. I hope that makes things a bit clearer for you.

Popquorn · 14/05/2025 19:46

No, happy to watch as always
