Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

To quote Bluey - “it’s just monkeys singing song mate, don’t think too deeply about it.”

I love Eurovision and I hated all the drama last year. This year seems more friendly.

I don’t watch it anyway, but the rules seem consistent enough to me.

The Russian government launched the initial attack on Ukraine which kicked off the ongoing conflict, so Russia was banned whilst Ukraine are still allowed to compete.

Likewise, the Palestinian government launched the initial attack on Israel (7th Oct) which kicked off the ongoing current conflict, so Israel are still allowed to compete.

THIS! ^

I will be watching it and voting for Israel. Their singer was at the Nova festival and almost killed on October 7th. The hatred she is facing now and the risks to her life absolutely disgust me.

Totally agree

The analogy is that Ukraine are (rightly) allowed to perform despite fighting back against aggression on their sovereign land.

I know. Strange isn't it? 🤔

magpiemagical · 14/05/2025 19:50

@Hamiltonfanlike I said upthread, of course I don’t condone anything against the contestants individually and that’s so horrible that she’s faced that.

@StupidBoynever said they started a war.

@BatchCookBabeI am aware and I was asking if anyone else was also boycotting, not if they care if I am or not. And we will have to disagree with your opening line.

Grow up.

Drangea · 14/05/2025 19:53

Will be watching and voting for Israel.

u3ername · 14/05/2025 19:55

Didn’t we have this conversation last year? Because many people were boycotting Israel’s participation, the U.K. ended up giving them 10 or more points to off-balance…? You’ll just get the same this year. Give them a reason to vote for Israel.

Im not watching it because I found it very tasteless and trashy last year (still cringing remembering the UK performance) and it’s definitely no longer a fun, family watch.

headstone · 14/05/2025 19:55

It’s no longer about who started. A country is deliberately starving 2 million if their occupied people. If you are happy watching them perform carry on.

I never said you did. I was answering your question: 'I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia.'

This is how.

Oh do get a grip

You missed the bit where Israel spent over a year systematically exterminating tens of thousands of innocent civilians.

76evie · 14/05/2025 19:59

Israel should quite rightly be allowed to compete, more so given it is one of the hostages that is preforming.

Russia started a war so was banned, Israel didn’t start a war.

Well yes but Australia aren't currently committing a genocide....

What happened to the Aboriginal people?
What is their status now, in modern Australia?
They're colonial expansionists who have committed genocide.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/05/2025 19:36

I never watch it anyway. But why is it still called Eurovision if Australia is allowed to compete?

It’s to do with the TV companies that pay for it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/05/2025 20:01

We’ll be watching and voting for Israel. I think we’re having fondue.

Yes, it's not European, it's Eurovision.

Fondue! Very Eurovision!

BethDuttonYeHaw · 14/05/2025 20:04

Nope. I will be enjoying it as usual.

tinytemper66 · 14/05/2025 20:05

I never watch it so no skin off my nose…

MagdaLenor · 14/05/2025 20:05

Not boycotting it, I've been watching it for years, pure kitsch.

This 🤘

AniBocha · 14/05/2025 20:07

I'll be watching. @magpiemagical Israel's performer is the survivor of a massacre. I think it's amazing she is even able to perform and wish her luck.
