Is anyone else boycotting Eurovision?

Usually love watching Eurovision but will not watch it this year due to Israel being allowed to compete. I don’t understand how Israel are allowed to compete but not Russia (not that I’d agree with them competing either) so sadly, we won’t be watching it. Is anyone else boycotting it?

Antisemitism

Weepixie · 17/05/2025 04:29

@stupidboy

Did you complain when everyone voted for Ukraine in solidarity with their plight?

I wasn’t aware anyone had. In fact I didn’t even know the ESC was still a thing. But yes, if I had come across a comment like the one I did yesterday I’d have asked. But that’s a throwback to the last time I saw the competition which was when Sandi Shaw won it in 1967 and people only won because their song was the best.

By the way, Im loving your username. It’s so you, it’s just perfect.

This is clearly what happened last year.
The public vote for Israel was huge.

It’s such a scam

I’d no idea about that.

I last watched the competition in 1967, way back in the day when people won because they deserved to win and I’d no idea about the political voting. Where I live the competition isn’t relevant and doesn’t make the press so I’m not up on the shenanigans of it.

likechampagne · 17/05/2025 07:13

Hamas did the initial oct. 7 attack, not the Palestinian government! Also the Israeli government has killed over 55,000 people, while hamas has killed 1706. While both are awful, Israel is defo the perpitrator of this situation. Educate yourself, its not hard.

Although I doubt that not watching eurovision will do anything to impact the war, don't televote for them atleast.

MagdaLenor · 17/05/2025 07:41

@likechampagne - have a look at the Palestinian government. Have a look at the role, the power of, and the support for, Hamas.
They are not separate entities.

TomeTome · 17/05/2025 07:46

No I won’t be watching.

I did!!

"Stefania" by Kalush was absolutely not the best song in Eurovision that year.

Ironically, this year's Israeli entry probably is.

This was only a year later...

I am boycotting for the second year in a row.

To all those saying it is performative, Moroccan Oil which is the Eurovision primary partner / sponsor, is Israeli owned and their product are manufactured in Israel. There are also allegations that some of their products are made in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, so less people watching not only signals that people do care about the plight of the Palestinian people, but it also hopefully translates into less ££ generated for Moroccan Oil.

I think that the public vote for Israel shows that the majority of people believe that Israel should be taking part.

I think it shows Zionists voting 20 times each for Israel - just because it's Israel - as opposed to normal voters who vote for the song they actually like best. The vast majority of the UK public are disgusted by Israel's actions; how could any sane person not be. Don't kid yourself that this "public vote" indicates support for Israel.

Do you know what "Zionist" means? A Zionist is someone who believes Jewish people should have a homeland. This arose after the pogroms when Jews were virtually eliminated from many countries. Please don't throw it around like it's a bad thing. Personally I don't think any one race should be persecuted and homeless. And I didn't vote by the way. So you can deduct my "20 votes" from your tally. Maybe it's just the vast majority of the UK realise that Israel are right to defend themselves from ISIS cousins and realise if Hamas are defeated and hostages are returned this would be the best outcome for both Israeli (Jews, Arabs, Christians) and Palestinian people.

I don’t believe that is the case - I am not suggesting that the ESC is anything like a public election but people have and are frightened and bullied into keeping quiet, maybe like public elections people feel they can express their view in a private vote. The loud voices don’t necessarily translate to the largest numbers.

PurpleThistle7 · 18/05/2025 09:07

I believe in Israel’s right to exist and voted for Iceland as I thought they were fabulous 🤷🏻‍♀️

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. This "Zionist" actually forgot to vote as I was very busy and then fell asleep early....so there's another mythical twenty votes you can deduct from your theory.

I think the public vote shows what the silent majority really think.

TaffetaRustle · 18/05/2025 11:19

I think it's gone very fetishsed and felt comfortable watching it with it children

I know it’s a typo but I felt totally comfortable watching it with my kids. Just a bit of silliness :)

Tomatotater · 18/05/2025 14:37

I don't think I'll watch it next year, not because of anything political, but because it was a bit boring and went on for far too long. I couldn't be bothered to stay up for the voting and that's usually the best bit!

And there we have it.

So the only course of action is to remove the public vote

What a shame for everyone else
