So how do I live in the female gender?

1000 replies

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:28

There are 8834 people in the UK who have a Gender Recognition Certificate.
I am one of them.

To get it, I had to show evidence of transition, surgery etc. Lots of hoops

I also had to swear a Statutory Declaration. I had to go to a Magistrates Court and swear a legal declaration in front of a magistrate. It was all very formal.

I had to swear this:

" have lived as a (insert ‘male’ or ‘female’ as appropriate)
throughout the period of years before the date of this statutory
declaration and I intend to live in that gender until death."

This declaration is legally binding. Apparently if I don't follow this, I can be done for perjury.

So...how do I live as a female and live in that gender until death - I have sworn to do this in front of a magistrate.

I was very surprised that so few trans people have Gender Recognition Certificates.

I'm having a bad day ... but you need to put yourself in the role of support human for all the people in your life and to help all the men regulate their emotions.

You need to be incredibly creative in getting your voice heard as you will be ignored.

Hoppinggreen · 18/04/2025 14:35

Do what you want as long as you understand that you are still a man (assuming you are a TW) and have no right to anything that is designated solely for women.
"living as a female" is completely meaningless

I think that if you really understood what ‘living as. Woman’ entailed, you would stick with being a bloke.

The majority don't seem to like trans people here, OP. Just a heads up 🙄

Also to everyone else... Sorry for quoting the op, it's habit and I forgot we're not allowed to do that anymore either

Planetmonster · 18/04/2025 14:38

yeah put yourself out for others, with no expectations in return. Laugh at all men’s jokes. Smile a lot. Don’t explain things to people, even when you know more than them. Smile some more, also nod a lot.

Kinsters · 18/04/2025 14:41

You can't. Being a woman is not about what we do or don't do or have or don't have. A woman is an adult human female ie a person of the sex class with the potential to gestate children. If you're not that sex class you can't "live in the female gender".

ErrolTheDragon · 18/04/2025 14:42

I don’t know how you ‘live in the female gender’. Perhaps you try to adhere to gender stereotypes and roles that many women have spent decades of effort, legal challenges etc to free ourselves from ?Confused

Delphigirl · 18/04/2025 14:42

No idea how you live as a female when you aren’t a female. That is for you to decide what it means for you, and no doubt that will not be the same as what it means for other trans people as humans are all individuals. For some people that might mean changing their body surgically, dressing in what they perceive as women’s clothes (although jeans and a tshirt are just as much women’s clothes as a dress), wearing a long-haired wig (although men can have long hair without the wig and plenty of women have short hair) etc.
But don’t expect women to tell you, it’s not our fucking job.

Delphigirl · 18/04/2025 14:43

Oooh @ErrolTheDragon said it SO much more succinctly than I did, dammit

SpaceBunHun · 18/04/2025 14:43

Have you considered taking a 7% salary cut and a 38% reduction in your pension?

We laydeez love that.

Which is why if someone ever challenged this in a court, someone would have to define "living in the female gender" - and that can't be defined.

Always be aware of men and what they might do, always humour them in case it escalates. Limit where you go and what you do because of men.
Always work harder, smarter and do longer hours than men on comparative work levels.
Deal with menstrual pain and bleeding at the most inconvenient times of your life.
Go through the physical and mental upheaval of the menopause.
Don't dare age.

RedToothBrush · 18/04/2025 14:44

I dunno.

I'm amused not female gendered. Gender is made up sexist stereotypes that I don't believe in. I am female. That my sex. That can't be changed.

I'm sorry you have been mislead and lied to by the law to create a meaningless indefinable or sexist concept that a large proportion of women actively reject.

Rosybud88 · 18/04/2025 14:45

Genuinely in my experience - do everything for everyone else, put yourself bottom of the pile for everything, never complain and make sure you are smiling. Good luck because it’s not fun! X

Well there's the thing isn't it?

The supreme court said there was a problem with the GRA...

Shegotanology · 18/04/2025 14:46

I take it you already know that you're in a minority group. You've probably faced extreme discrimination for not knowing your place.
What exactly would you like to know?

Exactly.

It would be an "interesting" court case if a trans person was challenged about not living in the female or male gender.

Unfortunately they’ve been handing out GRCs w/o surgery etc. So as evidence of anything permanent or physical, they’ve been devalued.

CurbsideProphet · 18/04/2025 14:47

I don't think it is a surprise so few people say they are transgender and yet don't have a GRC. It's far easier to cos play and have everyone say how stunning and brave they are, while they get their enjoyment from eg. the attention, dressing in an overly sexualised manner, and the discomfort of women.

Lemsipper · 18/04/2025 14:47

Sure it just means you don’t reverse your surgery in the future?

You don't need surgery to have a GRC.

I honestly have no idea of the implications of it.

Transmen who get pregnant are doing a pretty poor job of being men.

Transwomen who father kids are doing a pretty poor job of being women.

Transwomen who rape have not got the hang of it either.
