So how do I live in the female gender?

1000 replies

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:28

There are 8834 people in the UK who have a Gender Recognition Certificate.
I am one of them.

To get it, I had to show evidence of transition, surgery etc. Lots of hoops

I also had to swear a Statutory Declaration. I had to go to a Magistrates Court and swear a legal declaration in front of a magistrate. It was all very formal.

I had to swear this:

" have lived as a (insert ‘male’ or ‘female’ as appropriate)
throughout the period of years before the date of this statutory
declaration and I intend to live in that gender until death."

This declaration is legally binding. Apparently if I don't follow this, I can be done for perjury.

So...how do I live as a female and live in that gender until death - I have sworn to do this in front of a magistrate.

I was very surprised that so few trans people have Gender Recognition Certificates.

The female ‘gender’ is to live as the male idealism of what it is to be a woman. So crack on with all those stereotypes that woman have been fighting so hard against for generations. I’ve struggled with my sense of self since puberty so not completely unsympathetic, a mixture of an abusive childhood and being ND (like the majority of people these days who are burying the root of their issues with gender ideology). I’ve used body modifications known it’s a form of accepted self harm, but at least my choices only affect me. Im not sure I’d be asking how far to go to insert myself into a group I physically/morally/now legally don’t belong to.

TBH, I am just going to keep on living my life how I want.

Who knows if that's living as male or a female.

Living your life is how it should be for all (unless it involves criminal activity of course).

I had to swear a Statutory Declaration in front of a magistrate which is legally binding.

So breaking it would mean I had lied to the court. Which is perjury.

But what would breaking it mean.

According to some people, I've already broken it by posting on here - and that's stereotypicallly male - so clearly behaving as a male. So I could get jailed for 7 years.

You're talking nonsense now and you know it. The GRC was a sop to those who opposed marriage for gay people but wanted to allow it for people in heterosexual relationships where one of the couple (usually the male, but not solely) was trans-identifying but wanted to be married. The subsequent acts allowing same sex marriage made the notion of the GRC entirely redundant but for some reason, it still exists.

Nobody cares whether a trans person has a GRC or not. If your actual reason for starting this thread was to complain that the Supreme Court ruling has rendered it utterly pointless - you're right. It has.

Whatever you do, don't dare to:
Be overweight
Age
Be anything less than beautiful all of the time
Have an opinion let alone express it
Earn more than your partner
Be financially reliant on your partner
Prioritise your own needs - ever

I don’t know if it’s a reverse but I think it might be a fantasy!

It's not this person's fault you've experienced difficulties as a woman, so stop taking it out on them fgs. That's just life, if someone wants to transition that's up to them.

No one is.

It's a discussion about the law and whether it works. And what the point of it was/is.

The problem is this law is sexist and homophobic. It's devoid of meaningful legal definitions.

To the point that the Supreme Court have explicitly said there is a problem with the legislation.

It's a failed law that's failed people across the board.

IllustratedDictionaryOfTheDoldrums · 18/04/2025 15:24

Gender is just stereotypes. You can enact as many 'female' stereotypes as you like. Just do it on your own time and in your own spaces. Don't try force us to play along and pretend that's what women actually are.

Luckily for you the burden of proof would be on the state and the standard of proof would be that it was beyond reasonable doubt that you swore a false Stat Dec knowing it to be false.

So don’t lose any sleep over it. Nobody will be bringing charges simply because it is dawning on you that “living as a female” is legally nonsensical and to all practical purposes meaningless.

greengrapesofwrath · 18/04/2025 15:24

You adhere to sexist stereotypes, be an emotional handmaiden for every single man in your life, put up with less pay, double standards, groping, sexual assault, monthly periods, menopause, doing a shit ton of emotional labour for everyone for no thanks, be told every normal emotion is hysteria, and you take all this whilst smiling.

If you genuinely believe you are a woman, wouldn’t you know what it feels like to be one of us?

ChicaWowWow · 18/04/2025 15:25

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:44

Which is why if someone ever challenged this in a court, someone would have to define "living in the female gender" - and that can't be defined.

Living in constant fear of male violence, maybe? Which transwomen definitely do too.

The OP has asked a question. Women are answering it, each in their own way. No one has been offensive as far as I can see. The fact that we have XX chromosomes doesn't mean that we have to Be Kind.

UrsulasHerbBag · 18/04/2025 15:25

I can give you a huge list of sexist stereotypes if you like? If you are not born as a woman you can’t live as a woman though because you are not one. I think the general consensus is skirt go spinney, head tilt, too bright make up and sexy matching underwear. don’t worry about giving up your career to have children and making yourself financially vulnerable because you will be able to apply for £65 a week carers allowance to care for your elderly parents until it’s your turn for a box and a 6ft hole.

Leafstamp · 18/04/2025 15:25

@Definitelynamechanged123

Did you not consider what it meant when you made the declaration?

BloodandGlitter · 18/04/2025 15:25

It's no wonder Ocado don't want their advertising on here is it?

Gender stereotypes hurt everyone trans or not, women are being removed from single sex bathrooms for "looking like a man". Discrimination hurts everyone.

So do a lot of gay men, so that doesn't work.

Where are women being removed from bathrooms? Do you have a link?

"Removed" in the UK? By whom? Who is doing the "removing"?

Exactly, so carry on with your life as it is. Be aware that some spaces are designated as single sex spaces for those biologically born of that sex and use the facilities where it is not specified. I truly hope that you can live in peace and not be discriminated against but I also value my identity and the shared experience that can only come with being biologically female and I am glad that space has been protected.

NessieDoesExistYes · 18/04/2025 15:26

Just because you've had your balls removed, take estrogen and maybe have grown boobs it does not make you a woman.

You have XX chromosomes and that's all there is to it.

You won't look like a woman or think like one, because your body was under the influence of testosterone for years.

There are many men who now say they are women who have never had surgery. You're not one of those.

Presumably your life will not change that much because you can use a loo designated to anyone (or a disabled loo worst case) and if you every need to be in hospital the medics will decide which ward you're in.

I don't think MN which is mainly a place for women is where you should be talking about this,

PhatGurlSlim · 18/04/2025 15:26

notnorman · 18/04/2025 14:37

I think that if you really understood what ‘living as. Woman’ entailed, you would stick with being a bloke.

Yes and op has to know that having lived as man gives them advantages (of mind and body) that we women just do not have. They will have lived as a man in a man's world for a very long time and will be conditioned by that no matter what they feel themselves to be inside.

I think you highlight just why it's such a bloody absurd law.

Of course you shouldnt be jailed. No one can define what 'living as a man' is anymore than they can answer what living as a woman means in a legal sense to a point that it's prosecutable.

It's gibberish!

It's the school holidays/ a Bank Holiday. Lots of people looking for something to do.

Reddelilah · 18/04/2025 15:27

You cannot actually live as someone else.

It’s not possible. You can only ever live as yourself.

It’s simply wishful thinking that someone can ‘live as someone or something else’!!

JasmineAllen · 18/04/2025 15:27

Thus is a genuine question @Definitelynamechanged123 but please could you explain what drove you to surgery, hormones etc rather than therapy for the body dysmorphia you explained you experienced?

Did you have therapy and it didn't work, or was it not an option?

I'm interested because our youngest has mental health issues part of which was anorexia (also often a type of body dysmorphia).

Ahem. XY. (I know, I know, it's easy to get muddled).
