Dd(8) just screamed from the toilet, she says there was a black snakes tail moving about. She drew the photo.

nothing by the time I got there, I’ve flushed it.

Is that possible? What do I do? DH is at work

Which country are you in?

BlondeMummyto1 · 17/04/2025 23:00

I’ve heard of this happening.

Any neighbours who have lost one?

tiredtootired · 17/04/2025 23:01

England

Might have been tail of a rat

Yes, she says it could have been.

either way, what do I do!?

I think all you can do tonight is keep the lid closed and hope whatever it was got flushed away.

Waterlilysunset · 17/04/2025 23:10

I think rat.

ughhhh

FloppySarnie · 17/04/2025 23:10

Keep the lid closed AND put something heavy on it! Definitely more likely to be a rat than a snake…..

MauraLabingi · 17/04/2025 23:11

I would add clingfilm. Five layers.

Seagreensmokeyblue · 17/04/2025 23:11

The tail of a rat in the toilet! Oh my goodness the very thought of that is terrifying.
Are rats in the toilet " a thing"?

I have heard of snakes in the toilet. One of the reasons I'll never use the loo at night without the bathroom light being on.

midlandsmummy123 · 17/04/2025 23:12

I would move house immediately.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 17/04/2025 23:12

Well I'll never be using a toilet again. Off to find a bucket....

MeAndMyCatCharlotte · 17/04/2025 23:13

It’s an excellent drawing. Definitely looks rat tail-like.

Fgdvevfvdvfbdv · 17/04/2025 23:13

I agree with the people who have said rats tail. It’s a common way for them to get in and out of your house. I learnt this when I thought we had them.
Keep the lid down, but I think I would put some rat traps in the bathroom too.

Endofyear · 17/04/2025 23:13

Eek! I would put the lid down and put something heavy on it 😬 hope it hasn't scared your DD enough to put her off ever using the loo again 😩

tiredtootired · 17/04/2025 23:13

I’ve closed the lid and am too scared to open it back up anyway.

I was honestly hoping she just imagined it or made it up.
is it going to just go away on its own?

socks1107 · 17/04/2025 23:14

lid down and heavy stone on top!

Redburnett · 17/04/2025 23:14

Yawn.....

pearandchocolate · 17/04/2025 23:14

Apparently they might have found another planet that could support life so I'd probably move there.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 17/04/2025 23:14

There aren't many black species of snake and even fewer that would be likely to be kept as pets. A rat is infinitely more likely if she did see something.

No idea what to do though, except keep the lid closed while you do some Googling.

Hohofortherobbers · 17/04/2025 23:15

I'd flush it 20 times with heaps of bog roll to push it way back down and j would call th water board. Is it upstairs or downstairs. Upstairs feels more terrifying

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 17/04/2025 23:15

Superb drawing ……imagine being so ‘scared’ and then produce such a masterpiece

pearandchocolate · 17/04/2025 23:16

On a more serious note do you have any other toilets or open plugs that lead into the same soil pipe as that toilet? I'd want to check all other possible exits from that soil pipe were blocked or closed.

Summertimeblahness · 17/04/2025 23:16

Am I the only person that would tell the child to go back to bed and assume that they imagine it?

OudAndRose · 17/04/2025 23:16

Oh FFS. I did not need to learn that this was a thing - already unable to sleep tonight and live on my own with an en suite right by the bed...!
