What have British farmers done to Starmer so he’s intent on shafting them every which way?

Upstartled · 08/05/2025 19:32

(7/5/25) Find Out Now:

Reform 33%
Labour 20%
Conservatives 16%
LD 15%

He just assumes they all vote Tory so needs to get revenge. Look at who they've targeted first: parents who pay for private schools, farmers + pensioners. All groups they assume vote Tory. It's revenge politics, the PIP stuff was just a distraction

If this continues, Labour and Conservatives will have to shack up.

Good question. Same goes for pensioners, students, businesses who’s left?

That polling blimey, shows the impact

Train Drivers?

TheNuthatch · 08/05/2025 19:47

I just had a peek at DH's bsky feed (he's a disgruntled lefty). All the labour supporters have suddenly become American beef loving brexiteers!
They were tearing strips off Farage when he supported American chicken!

I know. It might just be a temporary bounce following the local elections, or their success in the local elections might have coaxed out some shy reformers. It will be interesting to see if it sticks. Seeing them so close to the figure which brought Labour a landslide victory must have the wind up all the parties.

Ha I bet. It’s bad enough on here.

Reeves is holding her nose today as the backbenchers begin to rebel on the welfare reforms in earnest. She says, "They know that the system needs reform. We do need to reform how the welfare system works if we're going to grow our economy."

I'm no pr mogul but I think they are going to have to pick a word that isn't reform from here-on-in. I've heard it so many cabinet members say such and such needs reform this week and it's such a colossal own goal. How about change/ a tweak/ a shake up/ a switch/ a transformation - so many words in a thesaurus. It's like political slap stick to be this clueless.

They do keep saying reform don't they! 😂
I hadn't noticed, but now you mention it. It's shocking that no-one in the top team has noticed that.
I don't think further and faster is going down well with the backbenchers.

I feel for them, as insincere as the probably sounds give the themes of the thread. But you know these newly minted mps spent the first half of 2024 traipsing the streets telling voters that they were going to bring change and offer them a paternalistic brand of governance to heal society after the Conservatives and their mean ways...and the second half trying to convince voters that grannies spend their wfa on bingo, they never really liked waspi women anyway, family farmers are tax dodging liars and that people on pip would find their real medicine in work. I bet they get an eye twitch when they hear further and faster now.

EasternStandard · 09/05/2025 21:20

I reckon there comes a point where the leader in the HoC is trying to convince their back benchers as much or more than anyone. Starmer sounds like he’s getting close.

TheNuthatch · 10/05/2025 07:48

Good morning. Hope you're all enjoying a sunny weekend.

It's almost time for a new thread. As things are quiet on the politics front, it's a good time to do some admin on our thread. Could you all please provide your thoughts and suggestions for thread 3? I've been winging it up to now, time to get organised!

What title would you like?
Would you like it to be a recurring title, so easy to find? Or changes and more topical?
Anything else you'd like, photos, tax or not?
Any other input, suggestions, likes or dislikes would be most welcome please 🙏.

I know we have a few friendly lurkers who read, but never comment. I'd love to hear your thoughts too.

Thank you Grin

Hi @TheNuthatchafter we had some interjectors early on in the thread I like this title with 3 at the end.

Feels comfy and sums it up.

Upstartled · 10/05/2025 08:50

Yeah, I like the above. I'd rather gauge my eyes out than do the photo tax thing.

Yes to this.

And we all know how I feel
about the “tax” photos.

TheNuthatch · 10/05/2025 09:21

Great, I think we have consensus on the tax thing. I'm quite relieved none of you want that tbh 😂
