I simply cannot wait for the analysis on the revenue Labour have ultimately raised from their non-dom reforms, and PS VAT imposition.

I am willing to wager they will be net negative. Anyone care to take the other side of the bet?

A vicious bunch of cretins. morons.

Edited

Nope, no bets from me.
Any money raised from PS VAT will go to the treasury anyway, (ready to fill the next black hole Reeves creates). It's not even ring fenced for education afaik.

But what about the 6,500 new state school teachers Reeves & Co promised???
🙄

TheNuthatch · 07/05/2025 20:52

There are so many Labour MPs speaking out against the government now.
I hope this is the beginning of the end for Labour.

The VAT will end up being a net cost to state + taxpayer.
Court documents showed Labour lied to you all. Their own calculations (which they never released and constantly denied) stated they expected 54K kids to leave indy schools in first 2 years. That's just under 10%.
10% is the point at which the policy brings in £0 net. 11% is point at which is starts to cost the state. 33K have already left since Sept 24 + over 80 schools have closed. Following current projections we could see 60K+ leave indy schools which means we hit 11% by Xmas 25.

They knew this yet kept saying "they didn't accept" that any kids would leave etc. This is purely ideological and ideology above fiscal or economic literacy. There will be £0 to state schools and certainly 0 more teachers as a result.
But hey, as long as they can say they've gone after "wealthy" people eh?
Of course irony is that the kids who are leaving are alll from families at lowest end of income spectrum in Indy schools. The really rich won't feel a thing and all that is happening is that indy schools are becoming MORE elitist as they are now out of reach for many middle earners etc.
Hey ho!

@twistyizzy Is there any news on when the judgement will be? It feels like it's taking forever.

Nope 🙄 when the judges have decided! It could drop any day so yes nerves are getting frayed!

The next question is Reeves £60bn out on headroom from The Times

A league 2 football club have closed their academy and made other staff redundant too because of Rachel’s NIC hike which the club can’t afford. Another slow hand clap for Rachel. The nic hike is doing so much damage and harm to the economy. Yet the labour mps are banging on about winter fuel allowance! They’re a bunch of incompetents. It should be the nic hike being reversed.

Boohoo76 · 08/05/2025 08:25

I don’t care what job Reeves did at HBOS….she’s proven herself to be a pretty shit economist!

TheNuthatch · 08/05/2025 09:25

@EasternStandard £60 Billion!! :-0
What will it take to get them to change course ffs. And why is Starmer still backing Reeves? Government for growth? My arse they are.

@Badbadbunny agree with you on NICs. It's batshit, but they don't seem to care when businesses close. I'm starting to think they actually enjoy it. Labour MPs obviously dont think they'll lose their seats over NI. I have a slightly different view on WFA though. For me, the threshold is far too low and needs changing.

I think if she goes he’s at risk so they’ll both cling on. He’s accountable for those policies.

If that figure is near correct then it’ll be a huge issue given the fiscal rules. I didn’t know until listening to More or Less but Reeves follows economic modelling to make sure she had a certain amount of headroom at the the of term.

If that shifts she changes policy. They said it was madness to do it that way but it’s why you get these changes like welfare cuts thrown up and amended if the modelling shows it’s still off.

Parsley1234 · 08/05/2025 10:32

@EasternStandard compkely out of her depth and we’re paying for it

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 08/05/2025 10:34

They are like dominoes, Starmer and Reeves.

UK concessions on food and agriculture. I'm already feeling sick and I haven't even seen any of the detail.

EasternStandard · 08/05/2025 10:54

Labour supporters very pro Starmer on the India one of course. I think any concessions on the digital services tax will be a harder sell.

This was so evident in the way they announced the welfare cuts wasn't it? They shoved Liz Kendal out to shout announce cuts to save the Chancellor taking the heat. Then by the time of the mini budget spring statement, they had realised that their sums were wrong, so went back for more.
I am dreading the Autumn budget.

Is More or Less a podcast? I haven't heard of that one before. I'm looking to add some more pods to my list. I've had to click unfollow on Electoral Dysfunction as I can't stand listening to Harriet Harman's labour spin anymore.

I don't think many of those supporters understand how procurement works.

Upstartled · 08/05/2025 12:56

Jesus, £60billion? Holy shit. That is dizzying. Wonder whose shoulders that will land on?

Upstartled · 08/05/2025 12:58

Apparently the us trade deal will be announced by the Whitehouse at 3pm, our time. Hopefully the key info wont be written on a whiteboard blowing around in the wind while Trump waffles.

Yep more attacks on British farmers , Labour really hate them! Means poorer quality meat imports etc.

Upstartled · 08/05/2025 13:12

I think, at least, we'll avoid the chlorinated chicken and frankenbeef. I don't think that's on the cards

TheNuthatch · 08/05/2025 14:00

Fingers crossed for the farmers.
Rumours are flying that food and agri quotas will be increased though, meaning more US produce arriving in the UK.

@Upstartled ha the only good bit about tariff day was the game show board 😂

Find out Now released a poll yesterday that revealed that in every single regional, age and sex group demographic, more people think that Farage will by PM in the next election that any other leader. The only big divergence was based on voting behaviour in the last g.e.
