Thanks all. I'll start a new thread when this one is full.

Starmer is in Ukraine today for a meeting of the 'coalition of the willing'.
I hope the recent election results don't cloud his judgement. No more war mongering please Starmer!

Agreed. He loses all sense when it comes to poll bounces and warmongering. Likely thinks of the heady days when he got some public approval.

Disturbing to see the Southport killer pic up again, as he’s attacked a guard.

That boy is a wrong un. I pity those tasked with his care. He has allegedly thrown boiling water at a guard through a hatch. I hope it wasn't laced with sugar.
I don't understand why dangerous prisoners are given kettles to use in their cells.

Yeah, I saw that. What an awful job that would be, having to keep that piece of shit safe while he plots to harm you.

Yeah, I don't think Starmer will ever pass up a photo op on a warship now. At least he isn't in cosplaying in fatigues now, small mercy.

Hi @TheNuthatchafter we had some interjectors early on in the thread I like this title with 3 at the end.

Feels comfy and sums it up.

This lurker agrees.

The white paper on immigration is interesting.
Looks like Labour are officially Reform-lite now. Farage must be rubbing his hands with glee that Labour have taken the bait.

Good luck to all the dc sitting their GCSE English tomorrow. I am currently walking on eggshells with my dd 😬.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 11/05/2025 22:43

Best of luck to your dd @TheNuthatch and to all GSCErs!

Labour seem to be panicking on immigration and Reform. Not sure it’ll help them much.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2025 07:21

Good luck with the exams.

Let’s see White Paper today. Who knows, Starmer might have listened to the electorate.

Parsley1234 · 12/05/2025 08:23

Good luck @TheNuthatch junior
am I being simple but most people are fed up of illegal immigration and understand that care work won’t be done by brits for reasons of low pay and bad conditions also the Pakistani grooming gangs which issue isn’t going anywhere so whatever cooper mutters about immigration it’s not legal migration it’s those two specifics ?

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 09:18

All the best Nuthatch. Ds has two gcse exams today and the youngest started his sats. Both schools have the kids in early for revision sessions and this threw well oiled routines out the window and a scram of four for the showers and complaints that people were running the taps for tooth brushing while others were showering with startling water temp consequences. Queues for the toaster and general mayhem. And this marks the beginning of six weeks of exam season and now the house is empty I am still sat in my pjs - stress eating cereal.

EasternStandard · 12/05/2025 09:26

@Upstartled good luck! your description was funny although I feel for you the stress

@Parsley1234 Labour know they’re losing support but you’re right they’re not really getting what’s driving it. Oh well hopefully they’ll be voted out.

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 09:42

Thank Eastern

Yes, building strong rhetoric about immigration controls when, what that amounts to is a reduction in care workers, might give them the illusion of tackling the immigration issue but could well just create another frustrating gap between government words and weak policy.

Although, cynically, I expect that the intention may be to fill the, frankly ridiculous, shortfall of careworkers in this country with newly jettisoned benefit claimants when those cuts kick in.

I hear you, solidarity ❤️
Sounds very familiar, our house was feckin mayhem this morning. We had a spider on a bed, a dc birthday, and a bout of diarrhea to deal with. I also did the school run in pyjamas this am. I can't even stress eat because I'm on moujaro 😂. Enjoy your cereal. I'm at work now for a break.
Good luck to your dc, I hope things are calmer when they get home.

Back to politics, I missed Starmer's speech this morning so just read a read through. Sounds like lots of tough words but no figures or targets?

Agree with @Upstartled on the care homes. They're also already struggling thanks to NI hike and NMW increase. Also agree with the timing re welfare reforms.
@Parsley1234 yes, spot on. They are promising to tighten the system re criminals, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I can’t take the hypocrisy from Labour who up until two minutes ago decried everyone who raised concerns as ‘dog whistle’ or ‘culture’ wars.

I never listen to Starmer as his voice ruins the day, it’s far too pleasant and sunny for that, but I did see the headlines and tough talk.

Reform is getting to them. I don’t think Labour will do anything on gangs as pledged so it may still rise.

Upstartled · 12/05/2025 10:14

I can barely talk about the grooming gangs. It was absolutely rife here in the 90s, in an area that barely gets a whisper on the matter, no doubt it continues but it's not in my world anymore. I think that this is why politicians struggle to understand - this shit happens in the margins in ignored and inconvenient communities and so removed from easy lives that it seems entirely elsewhere - and girls were and are thrown to the wolves to afford that wilful ignorance. It is a deep betrayal that will fuel reform if it Labour drags its heels on this - which seems to be the intention.

Yep, agree. Right wing bandwagon was my personal favourite. He has uploaded a new set of principles. The hypocracy is staggering which is why I doubt it will help. Starmer has been pushing voters to reform for 10 months, now he wants them back.
Same when Starmer welcomed the Supreme Court ruling. We have the receipts!

I'm not au fait with Reform policies, but didn't they say they would exclude/protect social care?

Starmer's immigration speech was simply yet another of his meaningless sticking plaster monologues; stricter controls in terms of education and the ability to speak fluent English, need to limit numbers - but no cap on numbers.🤔

Boris once described Starmer as a bollard - and Starmer was in full-on bollard mode this morning. Boring beyond belief.🙄

(Sadly, there isn't any sun on the South Coast to lift my dampened spirits.)

From that to ‘island of strangers’. WTF is so devoid of principles they can get reprogrammed like that. I hope he still feels the pressure. Bollard indeed.

TheNuthatch · 12/05/2025 12:53

Care4Calais have called for an apology from Starmer for his language this morning. Calling his words 'dangerous' and 'shameful'.

The argument that social care would collapse without immigration, or that the economy depends on it have just been shot to pieces by a labour PM.* *

Will the scales fall from the eyes of labour supporters now? Starmer is a liar with zero principles. The only thing he cares about is retaining power.

I truly believe that he has no principles. He doesn't believe in anything other than power. Hence he feels no guilt in lying, can't even recognise it became it is all acceptable in the game. It is scary!!!

Yep. At least Boris tried to hide it when he was telling porkies. Starmer is a full frontal gaslighter. How can anyone support that? I can't think of a worse PM in my lifetime.

Same. I don’t know how anyone can vote for him.
