I booked a holiday in tunisa. I have never been abroad before as an adult. I did not know tunisa is not a safe place to go. I didn't even know you could look it up. I just thought that if its not safe that all flights to that area stop . But that's not the case . I tried changing it but they told me I can't because airline operator do not go to the area I want . Its with tunisa airlines so basically it only gos to tunisa? . So i can't go change to a different destination. But unless I pay a load of money I can't cancel either.

Just to add . I do have learning difficulties. Which is probably why I did not realise all of this . I'm so pissed of

Where did you plan on staying? In a resort?

TheBossOfMe · 21/03/2025 13:57

Yes where in Tunisia? It's only some parts that are deemed unsafe.

CaramelVanilla · 21/03/2025 13:59

If you're able to book a holiday there, then you'll probably be ok.

Where are you staying? Do you have hotel transfer etc?

GCAcademic · 21/03/2025 14:00

If you're staying in a resort, it will be fine. Companies like TUI are still selling holidays there, they wouldn't if it was unsafe in tourist resorts.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 21/03/2025 14:00

My understanding of Tunisia is that you are perfectly safe if you stay in resort.

Elmo230885 · 21/03/2025 14:02

As PP have said there are some travel warnings but many major operators are booking package holidays to Tunisia. If it wasn't safe to travel there the major operators wouldn't have packages in resorts.

Birdist · 21/03/2025 14:03

A resort holiday in Tunisia is perfectly safe, don't worry. It will be bastarding hot though so take a hat.

Mancala · 21/03/2025 14:04

Hey, you've not fucked up. If you tell us where then I'm sure posters will be able to give you more info or reassure you. If you've bought a package holiday through a major travel agent then it will be fine. No one is expected to know everything about everything and check every tiny detail of everything in their lives (at least I hope not!!), you're fine. x

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/03/2025 14:06

Where have you booked to go to? Honestly it's probably fine, it's unlikely you'd have been able to book somewhere through loveholidays in the areas that are advised no travel.

Are you planning a beach holiday and staying in the hotel/resort? If you're not planning to travel around much, again, it's unlikely you'll be in any danger.

I've been to Tunisia many years ago, and it's gorgeous. So in all likelyhood you'll have a fantastic time.

Just be aware it is a Muslim country so modest clothing is expected when out and about. Who are you going with? Alone/partner/DC?

Believewhatisee · 21/03/2025 14:06

I hope not as I am also travelling to Tunisia in 3 weeks.

ohcrikeynotagain · 21/03/2025 14:07

The booking is via love holidays? So a resort/hotel package?

Tunisia border areas are no go areas largely but LH won't be selling holidays to that area.

Just take normal precautions for travelling /on holiday. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/tunisia is the official guidance.

If gov.uk link is advising against travel perhaps your insurance will cover the costs that are nonrefundable? Did you book a while ago?

rosydreams · 21/03/2025 14:13

just stay on the resort its like if you went to mexico its a lovely place but stay in tourist zones only with tourist guides

make sure you pack sun cream its hot

Upsetbetty · 21/03/2025 14:15

You will be fine in the resort @Youagain2025

Ilovemyshed · 21/03/2025 14:17

Just make sure you buy insurance.

strawlight · 21/03/2025 14:18

It’ll be fine OP, as others have said there are areas of the country that are a bit dodgy, but the main holiday resorts are fine. I’ve been and enjoyed it, some of the architecture in the towns is stunning, beaches are great, food is lovely. Please don’t worry.

SeaToSki · 21/03/2025 14:21

buy insurance, make sure you have a proper transfer booked from the airport to the hotel and then dont leave the resort if you are at all worried

CarrieOnComplaining · 21/03/2025 14:21

You will be fine in that hotel / resort. And surrounding tourist area.

Do proper official excursions rather than setting off on your own, you’ll have a lovely time 🙂

Imperfectpolly · 21/03/2025 14:24

I also think you'll be fine in that resort. I've stayed in resorts in Tunisia a couple of times before and thought they were excellent.

KhakiShaker · 21/03/2025 14:24

You will be absolutely fine in the resort. Don’t worry.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/03/2025 14:24

Hammamet is nice, and is very tourist oriented. It will be fine.

It's the borders to the west and south that travel is not advised, and you're going to the north east.

ArtTheClown · 21/03/2025 14:24

Please don't worry, if you're staying in a resort you'll be perfectly fine. As it's your first time abroad and you're understandably anxious about the travel warnings, just enjoy the holiday relaxing by the pool in the resort itself.

fluffiphlox · 21/03/2025 14:27

Well there was a mass shooting in a beach hotel in Sousse in 2015
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Sousse_attacks
but I would imagine that would have served to make the authorities tighten up security. Personally I wouldn’t fancy a holiday where you’re advised not to leave the compound but each to his own. I think you’ll just have to make the best of it.

My friend went on holiday there last year with her family- I wouldn’t keep worrying OP
