I have fucked up holiday

I booked a holiday in tunisa. I have never been abroad before as an adult. I did not know tunisa is not a safe place to go. I didn't even know you could look it up. I just thought that if its not safe that all flights to that area stop . But that's not the case . I tried changing it but they told me I can't because airline operator do not go to the area I want . Its with tunisa airlines so basically it only gos to tunisa? . So i can't go change to a different destination. But unless I pay a load of money I can't cancel either.

Just to add . I do have learning difficulties. Which is probably why I did not realise all of this . I'm so pissed of

OP - before you rebook anything, please make sure you have your passports. I believe from earlier threads, you haven’t got them and you need new/first passports? These will require signatories so will take a little longer to complete applications. And bear in mind, as we head into spring, we are coming towards the Passport Office busiest time.

If you haven’t got passports, you won’t be going anywhere.

Hi OP, who told you there's a note on your booking that says "cancellation request"? Is this just a "note" of your conversation with them, or an actual "cancellation request" that loveholidays will process in a timescale unknown to you? (They may be doing so right now.) I think you need to phone loveholidays back, as a matter of urgency, to clarify this, and if it's an actual cancellation request, get it corrected/removed. Your bank would have no authority to permanently stop a legitimate payment to loveholidays as a result of the contract you've entered into with them, which includes their cancellation terms, so you need to get this clarified and resolved with loveholidays NOW. I'm sorry OP, I'm not trying to stress you out, but I don't want you to lose money accidentally - you just need to stay on top of this to ensure it works out the way you want it to. 😊

I don't want to (permanently) stop then taking payment. I just want the chance to talk to them before anything is taken. I have had so much confusion that I want to know what's being taken and why. Before uta actually taken .

I think people are misunderstanding me. Which it probably me not explaining well . But it stressing me out to much to keep explaining .

Regarding cancellation it says this . I will contact them tomorrow though.

I think that’s fine, OP. They are getting back to you with a quote of how much cancellation will cost. They haven’t said they are going ahead with the cancellation.

Also, you have it in writing that you do not want to go ahead with the cancellation at this point.

I agree with PPs that you should discuss this further with your DS to be 100% that he wants you to rebook a different destination.

Thank you everyone who has helped me . I really appreciate it. I'm just going to wait for love holidays to get back to me and take it from there.

I will post an outcome. Because I don't want to come across ungrateful . But im going to step back now and not say to much due to what I would call unhealthy interests else where .

Thank you again 💐

And insurance. Check out you can afford insurance. With two (at least) disabled passengers it might be unaffordable.

Hammamet is really lovely. My family and I stayed there shortly before the mass shooting!!

I would have thought that security was drastically increased since then and whilst I wouldn't want to be roaming the streets - a resort should be safe. Travel companies wouldn't sell flights or accommodation to a country if it was unsafe.

I'm sure you'll be fine. It will be absolutely scorching though - pack your factor 50 and lots of long loose clothes!

Thanks OP, that's really helpful and I think it is OK. 😊 If they're not getting back to you for 96 hours and will then be providing you with a cancellation quote, they clearly won't go ahead with the actual cancellation unless you accept their quote. Phew! 😃

They don’t come as standard in schools?
Maybe in very deprived areas?

Well the ones I know of cover the whole of the boroughs - which for London is a mix of deprived areas and some of London's most expensive areas.
Rich people can have learning difficulties too and need help - not just "poor" people.
Anyway.... that's going off subject a bit but it's a possibility for the OP to get some help and advice.
Even if there isn't a dedicated Support Worker schools will always have details of dozens of organisations/charities that can help.

We are going here

It looks lovely.you will be fine..I've been loads of times.the only worry would be getting ripped off by a taxi driver, but you've booked your transfers so that's brilliant.

BlueBurys · 23/03/2025 21:23

I went to Hammamet Tunisia in August 2024 it was perfect safe in resort - there are other areas that I wouldnt go as a woman but you will be fine. Dont worry at all!

I agree it is extremely hot there! Literally you could fry an egg on the pavement in the summer!

UpMyself · 24/03/2025 12:38

@Chelsea2026 , that is literally not true.

As for Citizens Advice - in my opinion the OP has been miss-sold a product because her learning disabilities mean she didn't understand what she was booking.
Isn't that exactly what Citizens Advice is for?

It sounds like OP booked online, so she won’t be able to use misselling legislation unless she can show that Love Holidays misled her about how how safe Tunisia is for gay people to visit, or what she could wear there.

She may have a case if they’d shown incorrect photos or something but as it is, there’s no clear misselling from them. OP chose her destination, she’s admitted that was based on code, and Love Holidays have booked her flights and hotel accordingly.

While I think they are a pretty woeful company, they’ve not done much wrong here. It’s possible OP needed more support to choose and book a holiday but that support wasn’t sought from Love Holidays.

Growlybear83 · 24/03/2025 17:22

I don’t know why you would think Tunisia is not safe. We’ve been there many many times and have never felt in the slightest bit unsafe. We usually hire a car and drive round the south of the country and it’s lovely. The dreadful terrorist incident a few years ago could happen anywhere, and far worse attacks have happened here. I’m very cautious walking around where I live in London on my own after dark, but I wouldn’t hesitate to wander round in any of the towns I’ve been to in Tunisia. If you’re going to a big resort hotel like the one you’ve booked, you will be as safe there as anywhere. The weather is lovely, and the food is excellent once you get outside the hotels.

notacooldad · 24/03/2025 17:29

I really want to go back to Tunisia!
I've been inspired to look for a September holiday and Ops hotel looks good.

Zatapec · 26/03/2025 13:59

My friend has just come back from Tunisia and had a great time, no trouble at all, they had a great time 😁
