UK hosts over 40 countries to talk tackling smuggling gangs

At a London summit on tackling illegal migration, Sir Keir Starmer will call for nations to work together to stop people smuggling gangs in the same way they co-operate on terrorism. More than 40 countries are set to send representatives to the meeting

I rarely click embedded links since the overnight trolling incidents. I have hardly ever used them for years as I would rather that people on mobiles can see what they're clicking.

Zonder · 31/03/2025 08:52

Yes it really is.

Oops that was in reply to @PandoraSox - my page hadn't reloaded!

I will just add this, X.

Your cut and pastes seem to come mostly from the Telegraph, which is now the Daily Mail for people who think they are a cut above. This shit is nothing better than click/rage bait. Sensitive imaged for those who don't want to see such blatant twisting of facts designed to stir up hatred towards disabled and ill people.

Have a lovely day.

Patently inaccurate.

I post from the FT, BBC and Guardian too - or perhaps you have conveniently forgotten that.

I also have access to Bloomberg, Reuters and the WSJ - if you are happy to debate from an economic/financial perspective.

As for the c and p from The Guardian - we all know some to the left and on the left of Labour are very unhappy. This has been discussed fairly lengthily on this thread. Someone once tried to start a left wing thread - and it got ruined by lots of bad faith posters. It seems you are not allowed to be a socialist and discuss your views.

Since it is clear you are not a socialist x, I can only assume your post form The Guardian is simply an act in bad faith to rile and goad other posters

Assume away - I shall continue to link across the entire media spectrum, without fear or favour.

https://ifs.org.uk/publications/role-changing-health-rising-health-related-benefit-claims

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant rise in the number of people getting health-related benefits. In England and Wales, 4 million 16- to 64-year-olds (1 in 10) now claim either disability or incapacity benefits, up from 2.8 million in 2019 (1 in 13). One potential contributor to these trends is worsening health. In this report, we consider what we can learn from various sources about what has happened to working-age health since the pandemic, taking into account the difficulties surveys have had over the past few years.

As of end of March 2025 6642 migrants have crossed the channel in small boats, that's a 43% increase in the same period from last year.

What was Labour's slogan again?

That's better than trying to pretend Labour have somehow started giving top rate benefits to people just for their acne!

Not at all - I shall endeavour to post equally from all media, which I hope will address any future concerns you may have.

That means reading beyond the headlines, facts are boring

Does that mean you think Labour shouldn't try and co-operate with other countries to find solutions?

PickAChew · 31/03/2025 09:07

Surely it's losing our ability to cooperate with other European countries, thanks to Brexit, that has brought the small boat crossings to crisis levels in the first place.

I know you will probably discount this, wonder if the difference is weather related? March 2024 was much wetter than normal, if you remember.

I agree. There appears to be a “smash those threads” initiative. Please come back soon @BestIsWest.

I’m pretty sure I read Brexit that started the small boat crossings.

DuncinToffee · 31/03/2025 13:14

The statistics only start in 2018, a Brexit bonus
