A reminder that Spring seems to be on the way. This was taken during the last Very Bad Winter. I think it might have been the 3rd unbroken month of snow on the ground, at this point . That hill with a SN buggy and a bolter was fun.

Like the BBC, I'm relying on repeats.

The wealthy could now have 100s of 1000s in ISAs, tax free, without a single penny being required to be invested in the UK, with the tax payer funding this.

That is then a fault of the legislation that created ISAs, not the people who chose to use them.

I totally agree that the wealthy should pay more to the state. However retrospectively redefining savings vehicles is not going to achieve that without fundamentally changing the nature of our constitution such as it is.

Imagine if lottery winners were suddenly told that "oops, you know that tax-free bit ? We've changed our minds. Pony up" ?

I never mentioned retrospective changes, one obviously couldn't tax previous gains.

But the ISA system atm totally favours the wealthy, whilst providing very little gain for the UK Govt.

Meanwhile, the resignation of Matthew Cooke from Reform is of interest.

Basically one of his gripes is that Reform was allowing in "Remainers, Liberal Democrats, Conservatives" ... suggesting that some Reform subscribers would dump Reform (and Farage) if a more ultra-pure party turned up. (You notice how of course they expect someone else to organise it).

Fair enough. Reform it going forwards. However it would be dangerous in the extreme to try to introduce changes that would undermine the way ISAs were originally "sold" by the government.

And don't be so sure about not being able to tax retrospective gains. The UK parliament is supreme. It really can do whatever it likes. (As it did to retrospectively change the law to prevent people unlawfully put on workfare schemes from claiming).

So much to unpick, there including

• You're letting in all these people I don't agree with.
• Reform has no room for dissenting views.

Also - grass roots members? Can a party about a week old have grass roots members?

They let Remainers in? Good heavens.
I suspect a proportion of Reform simply want a version of Yaxley Lennon but with a posh voice and an old boys tie.

The TL;DR is that Reform are going nowhere. Farage stays and loses the headbangers to whatever circle of hell Musk is willing to sub up.
